Toronto - The Blue Jays get swept by the Rays as Toronto loses a tough one in the 13th inning. Manager John Farrell left Casey Janssen in one inning too long and it bit the Jays in the end. Janssen pitched well in his first two innings of relief but allowed the first two hitters to reach base in the 13th before giving up a 2-run triple to Scott. Brignac put it out of reach on the next pitch with the only home run of the night over the right field wall.

Blue Jay starter Henderson Alvarez bounced back after two miserable outings to start the season. Alvarez pitched 6 innings of one-run ball before being lifted for Jason Frasor in the 7th. Alvarez lowered his season's ERA to below 9 for the first time in three starts.

The Jays' bats remain cold as they could only garner one extra base hit on Colby Rasmus' double in the bottom of the 3rd. Rajai Davis sacrificed Rasmus to 3rd and then Omar Vizquel hit the sac fly that gave Toronto their only run of the night. The Jays didn't get another runner past 1st base.

The Jays begin a 7-game road trip tomorrow night in Kansas City as Kyle Drabek looks to continue his strong early season performance on the mound. Saturday the Jays will need a fifth starter for only the second time this season. Farrell has yet to name that starter, but several candidates are in the mix including Double-A right-hander Drew Hutchinson and Triple-A righty Jesse Chavez. An announcement is expected either Thursday or Friday.

Despite Joel Carreno breaking camp as the team's fifth starter, he is not expected to be called back up to take the spot.

Toronto 6, Baltimore 3

Finally the Jays got some decent pitching even though Morrow only lasted 5 innings against the Orioles. The bullpen allowed 5 hits over 4 innings with 2 runs and 2 walks. Not a great performance but much better than the first time through the rotation.

Luis Perez continues to struggle with control in his outings. If not for a double play, Thames to Arencibia, his line would look a lot worse. Morrow struggled with his control, walking 4 in 5 innings as well.

The bats seem to come alive today as Lind went yard in the 1st inning for this 4th of the season. Escobar followed with a solo shot and Thames followed with a two-run dinger in the 6th. Even though the Jays registered only one walk, they were more patient at the plate than they have been all season. Several hitters went deep into the count, knocking Arrieta out after 5 innings.

The Jays are now 3-4 on this young season with Henderson Alvarez set to start the middle game of the three game series vs. Baltimore. Alvarez hopes to bounce back from his first start of the season, a short outing loss against the Red Sox.

In transaction news, the Jays sent Joel Carreno down to Triple-A Las Vegas and recalled left-hander Aaron Laffey to add another south paw to the bullpen. The Jays will go with a 4-man rotation until April 21st, when they will decide who the 5th starter will be.

The Jays could not get Dustin Pedroia out on Tuesday, April 10th and the Red Sox took the 2nd game of the series 13-8. Pedroia finished the game 5 for 5 with 4 runs scored and 6 runs batted in.

As has been the Jays problem thus far on the young season, the pitching has not been good enough. For a 3rd consecutive game, the starting pitcher has not gotten past the 5th inning. Today, Drabek lasted 4.1 innings before giving way to Luis Perez, who promptly walked the only hitter he faced.

Hitters once again swung wildly at pitches out of the zone, culminating in 11 strikeouts. Toronto is batting .236 as a team. Couple the low team batting average with the 8.79 team ERA and any fan will see why they are failing to win games.

The Blue Jays bullpen again struggled to get outs. Five relievers combined to allow 9 hits and 8 runs in 4.2 innings. The Jays find themselves in the basement on this young season at 1-4.

Joel Carreno pitched well in his first Major League start Sunday, but Ubaldo Jimenez pitched better. Jimenez struck out 7 in 6 innings while allowing only 4 hits and a run. Jimenez located his curve ball well and kept the Jays hitters off balance all day with the bender.

Carreno didn't miss many bats and finally ran into trouble in the 6th inning, allowing the first two hitters to reach base.

Shin Soo Choo blew the game open in the bottom of the 8th with a 3-run blast off Blue Jay reliever Jason Frasor. The Jays fall to 1-2 on the season.

The opening game of the season was a brutal defeat by the Jays. Ricky Romero had problems locating his fastball, allowing 4 walks in 5 innings. Despite back-to-back homeruns by Adam Lind and Edward Encarnacion, the Jays could not provide enough support for a wild Romero.

Bald Man's Jays - Powersurge Leads Jays' Comeback

Going into the top of the 7th inning, the Jays trailed 5-1 to the surging Angels. Thirteen batters later, eight runs had crossed the plate. The Jays' power surge at the plate continues to keep Toronto in games when their starters are less than adequate.

Jose Bautista had a 4-hit game for the Jays, including his 14th homer of the season. Rookie J.P. Arencibia added a pinch hit home run in the 8-run 7th. It was his 2nd home run since being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas for the injured John Buck.

The Jays struggled at the plate through the first six innings, only producing three hits until they exploded in the 7th. Toronto finished with 17 hits, 9 for extra bases.

Mark Rzepczynski lasted only 3 and two-thirds, surrendering 10 hits and allowing 5 runs, putting the Jays in an early hole. The Jays added 4 home runs in the 7th and a Vernon Wells insurance shot in the 9th to finish off the Angels with an 11-7 victory.

After getting a double play ground out to finish the 10th, Blue Jays closer Scott Downs allowed three straight hits to start the 11th. Jorge Posada's RBI single broke the scoreless tie and won the game for the Yankees.

Ricky Romero pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out eight. Yankees' starter Sergio Mitre pitched eight scoreless innings, striking out 10.

The Jays bats managed only six hits against Yankee pitching. Toronto was impatient at the plate all day, employing their free-swinging philosophy that Cito Gaston prefers. The Blue Jays hitters did not draw a walk while striking out 12 times.

With the loss, Toronto falls out of a first-place tie with the Yankees. The Blue Jays continue to struggle against the AL East this year. Currently they are 14-12 against their own division.

Brandon Morrow is coming into his own as a starter. Thursday night the Jays starter struck out 10 Cleveland batters while surrendering only three hits. Only one base runner reached 3rd base for the Indians.

Adam Lind and Vernon Wells homered for the Blue Jays, who have won 8 of their last 10.

Brett Cecil retired the first 20 Cleveland Indian hitters he faced before Matt LaPorta singled to center to breakup the perfect game. Cecil was dominant on the hill, striking out 12. Cecil allowed a walk in the 8th and two hits in the 9th.

Fred Lewis and Adam Lind homered for the Jays.

Blue Jays take first game of home series in Philly

Yes, sports fans, it's been a while but the Jays are still going.

Jesse Litsch took the mound for the Jays for their home series in Philadelphia. That's right, the Jays home series with Philadelphia was moved to the city of brotherly love because of the G20 Summit in Toronto. The Jays came out swinging against Philly starter David Price, recently acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Aaron Hill got the Jays on the board first with a two-run homer in the bottom of the 1st. An RBI ground out by Adam Lind scored Hill in the 3rd after the Toronto 2B led off the inning with a triple.

Ryan Howard accounted for Philadelphia's lone run when he took Litsch deep in the top of the 4th inning.

Jose Bautista finished up the Blue Jays work with a 2-run single in the bottom of the 5th.

Blue Jays rookie Brett Wallace broke out of a prolonged slump to finish 2-for-4 with a double. Aaron Hill finished the game a single shy of the cycle.

Blue Jays win streak at 8

The AL East leading Toronto Blue Jays pushed their current winning streak to eight games behind a Dana Eveland pitching gem, defeating the Boston Red Sox 3-2. Eveland threw the first complete game for the season for Toronto, needing only 103 pitches. After allowing 7 hits through the first 5 innings and a 2-1 deficit, Eveland retired the last 13 batters he faced to finish off the Red Sox.

Aaron Hill's solo home run in the bottom of the 1st inning was the only Blue Jays hit until the 6th inning.

The Blue Jays stretch their record to 15-5, four games ahead of the New York Yankees.

The Jays run their win streak to 6 games in a slugfest over the Rays. Neither starter lasted longer than five innings. A combined total of 27 hits and 17 runs in the game. Romero struggled with control, again while Price was around the plate too much. The Blue Jays look to sweep the series tomorrow when Brandon Morrow takes the hill.

Jays' slide continues...

The AL Central leading Chicago White Sox held the powerful Blue Jays offense in check with a 2-1 win. The Jays struggled with patience at the plate all night, tallying only 3 hits--one of them a solo homerun by Adam Lind. Unfortunately that was the only offense Toronto could muster on a frustrating night at the plate. They now have scored only 1 run in their last 18 innings.

Ricky Romero's 2nd start of the season was inconsistent at best. He struggled with his control all night, elevating his pitch count. When Toronto's bullpen took over, the White Sox bats came to life. Casey Janssen surrendered a sacrifice fly to Alex Rios, who drove in the winning run.

Notes: Toronto 2B Aaron Hill extended his hitting streak to 8 games.

Blue Jays Fall to Orioles in Series Finale

After taking 2 of 3 at Texas, the Blue Jays took the first two from Baltimore, but the bullpen failed them in the series finale. The Jays finally cracked Kevin Millwood for 4 runs in the top half of the 3rd inning, and it looked as if the blowout was on. Baltimore stormed back in the bottom half of the inning, tagging Blue Jays' starter Shaun Marcum for 3 runs.

After a 2nd lackluster outing from the Blue Jays' opening day starter, Marcum was pulled after 6 innings and a 6-4 deficit. After taking the lead in the top half of the 7th on a Travis Snider 3-run opposite field home run, the Jays had a 7-6 lead, but the bullpen couldn't hold it. Shawn Camp relieved Marcum and promptly loaded the bases. Jeremy Accardo relieved camp and gave up a 2-run double to Wieters. The Orioles tacked on one more to take a 9-7 lead.

The score held until the top of the 9th when the Orioles brought in their closer, Gonzalez, who did surrender a run to make it 9-8 before retiring the final batter via strikeout.

The AL East leading Blue Jays are 4-2 on the young season, tied with Tampa Bay Rays, one game ahead of the Red Sox. The Jays next game is their home opener on Monday, April 12, 2010.

Notes: Toronto starting SS Alex Gonzalez was hit by a Kevin Millwood pitch in the 2nd inning and had to leave the game. He is day-to-day.

Toronto Blue Jays Franchise 2010 on MLB 10 The Show

OK, so I'm gonna try out this Dynasty stuff here. I've started a Blue Jays Franchise based on Knight's rosters. I did do some maneuvering of the AA and AAA rosters after checking out the Las Vegas 51s and New Hampshire Fisher Cats official sites.

Just for the record, this is the 1st year I've played The Show on PS3. I think the last time I played The Show was on PS2 and it was years ago. I just remember hating the game because the starters wore out after about 3 innings. So, for me, this is a breath of fresh air to actually be able to pitch a complete game. I know...it's the little things!

So, what I've decided is that I will play (or attempt to) every other game. The reason for this is that I like to play the entire organization's schedule. So, the schedule would look like this:

Blue Jays:
Game 1 @ Texas -- Simmed (Starter: Shaun Marcum)
Game 2 @ Texas -- Played (Starter: Brian Tallet)
Game 3 @ Texas -- Simmed (Starter: Ricky Romero)
Game 4 @ Baltimore -- Played (Starter: Brandon Morrow)
Game 5 @ Baltimore -- Simmed (Starter: Dana Eveland)
Game 6 @ Baltimore -- Played (Starter: Shaun Marcum)

So as you can see, I will pitch every other start for each pitcher. Because I do this for AAA and AA...this will obviously take forever! So..who knows how long this will last. Right now, though, I'm having a blast.

Currently, I think I just started the first home series vs the White Sox. I will post stats later on this evening. So stay tuned Jays fans...and by all means, send me your links so I can check out your Jays franchise.

I'm interested to see how Kyle Drabek does in AA on this game. I simmed his first appearace because it was Game 3 of the Blue Jays schedule. We'll see how it goes.
