Sacramento Kings head coach Paul Westphal has been fired!
A press release was made earlier today, congratulating young coach Alexander Best on his new position as head coach of the Sacramento Kings. The team, going 0-4 to start the season, is showing desperation for improvement by hiring this promising new coach.
Alex Best (King's Head Coach): "I'm excited to get started with the Kings. We have a long road ahead of us, but I believe we can make the necessary changes in order to improve and start winning games. That's my biggest goal with this club, to simply win games. I'm looking forward to this season."
DeMarcus Cosuins, Kings Center: "I'm looking forward to not losing games anymore. I think Alex is a step in the right direction for us, but only time will tell if it's a good move. But hey, at least it's a move in the right direction."

Post-Game Interviews
Paul Westphal: "We got carried away being so close for so long. We ended up trying to take highlight-reel shots and we missed them. Tyreke's missed layup at the end of the game really put this out of reach for us. We'll just need to hit the practice court harder this Thursday to come back from this."
Jose Calderon (Player of the Game): "It feels really good to finally get a win. This was a hard fought game and simply came down to bench production. DeRozan was awesome off the bench, and he really lifted us up."
Tyreke Evans (King's Player of the Game): I don't think either team played well today. We were both hitting our heads against the wall. I guess they were just hitting their heads better."
Jon Ratski's Review
This game showed more promise than the past three for the Kings, and really came down to the fourth quater. Kings couldn't rally at the end, and Raptors barely held out for the win. If the Kings can keep this sort of intensity, we may see a few wins yet. So let's look at the good and bad from this past game.

If the Kings can keep this sort of intensity, we may see a few wins yet. So let's look at the good and bad from this past game.
- Evans was right. They Raptors beat their heads better. Bargnani shot 7-17 yet still got 16 points. Terrible outing for the Raptors.
- Tyreke played hard, scoring the game high 22 with 9-15 shooting and 7 rebounds.
- Cousins was very consistant all game and was a relable force downlow that the Raptors couldn't stop. 7-8 with 15 points and even a block.
- Jason Thompson was experementing this game, taking a few shots from down low and mid-range, going 3-7 with 6 points.
- Garcia has been falling into the dark over the past few games. After a great start to the season, only shot 3-8 and 6 points.
- Thonrton got the start at PG again, going 2-6 and 0-2 from beyond the arc. This self-proclaimed "parimater shooter" should probably stick to the basic shots.
- Raptors managed to get on the break a lot, 16 points form the break compared to 0 from the Kings.
- Both teams shot 49%
- Kings continue to show dominance in blocking, picking up 6 this game compared to the Raptor's 3.

What's Next For The Kings?
There are a bunch of issues facing the Kings that need to be resolved. Here, I'll break down exactly what needs to happen next if the Kings hope to turn the tables and start this season off right.
- A coaching switch may be needed. Dropping this badly at the beginning of the season isn't a good sign. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some changes behind the scenes.
- You need Tyreke Evans to be on all cylandars every game. Whether Westphal will admit it or not, he's their star player. You need him performing.
- Get a three-point shooter! Out of the 30 teams in the NBA, Kings are ranked 21st in 3PT shooting, shooting only .303
- They need to work on defense. Nearly half the points they give up are on the fast break or in the paint.
- They need to stop the other team from scoring somehow. There are only three teams that have gave up more points per game than the Kings have.
- Figure out the PG spot. We've seen someone different start there every game. None of them can drain the three.
Expect to see some of these things adressed in games to come. So here's what's going right for the Kings so far.
- Kings have a 5-game home stand coming up.
- They are getting really good production off the bench from Casspi and Jeter.
- They are passing the ball well, being the third best assisting team in the league.
- Keep their big man doing what they are doing. They are tied for the most blocks per games with the Spurs.
- They have size down-low, they just need to use it.

Washington Wizards Midseason Update 1
29 Game Season
10 Minute Quarters
Record Thus Far: 4-1
Game 1
Orlando Magic
at
Washington Wizards
Recap:
The Wizards started off the 13-14 season with a bang defeating the aging Magic. Josh Smith played well in his Wizards debut. They expect more out of him but his performance was decent. Rookies Marcus Jordan and Shawn Kemp both saw their first NBA action. Marcus Jordan showed a lot of promise at the offensive end while Kemp dominated the boards in his time.
However the most impressive new Wizard was Austin Daye. In limited minutes off the bench Daye managed to lead the team in rebounding and net 5 points. Kentavious Caldwell also impressed, leading the team in scoring in his first ever start.
Game 2:
Los Angeles Lakers
at
Washington Wizards
Recap:
The Lakers came out firing in this one and jumped out to an early 10 point lead. The Wizards clawed back into it in the 2nd quarter and took a lead into halftime. The Lakers got back into it late but clutch free throw shooting by John Wall sealed the game. Unfortunately for Washington, Josh Smith was hurt late in the 4th quarter and would miss the next 2 games.
The MVP of this game was Marcus Jordan. His stats weren't all that impressive but his lock down defense on All-Time Great Kobe Bryant was incredible. The young Jordan in only his 2nd career game looked like a 10 year veteran guarding the larger and far more experience Kobe and his ability to contest shots and prevent Kobe from getting to the rim is what won the game for Washington.
Game 3:
Oklahoma City Thunder
at
Washington Wizards
Recap:
The Wizards are still trying to figure out how they managed to pull out a win and get to 3-0. After allowing 63 points in the first half, 31 to Kevin Durant, the Wizards defense stepped up in the 3rd and 4th quarters holding OKC to only 31 second half points.
John Wall and Yi Jianlian - who is stepping in for the injured Josh Smith - led the Wizards in a great comeback win. John Wall's near triple double in this game along with his performance in the Lakers game a few days earlier gained him Player of the Week honors.
Game 4:
Milwaukee Bucks
at
Washington Wizards
Recap:
The terrible defense from the Oklahoma City game was carried over into this game by the Wizards. However, the Bucks managed to keep their scoring up enough in the second half to outlast the Wizards and hand them their first loss of the season. Washington will have to learn quick if it intends to compete in the playoffs this year. Allowing 69 points in one half is unacceptable at any level.
Marcus Jordan had his worst game as a pro. Coach Saunders said after the game "He was just trying to do too much out there". He looked every bit the part of the raw rookie tonight and for his and the Wizards sake fans should hope he turns it around in time for the next game, a tough test against the Pacers.
Chris Wright (PG) was signed to fill the roster spot left in the absence of Josh Smith. He was sent down to the D-League after the game as Josh Smith would be ready to go against Indiana.
Game 5:
Washington Wizards
at
Indiana Pacers
Recap:
Despite the abysmal free throw shooting performance the Wizards dominated the Pacers to earn their 4th win of the season. Josh Smith announced his return from injury with a bang giving Washington fans what they had hoped for out of him ever since he was signed this past offseason.
Austin Daye continued his stellar all-around play off of the bench. He may not be lighting up scoreboards but he's certainly doing everything the Wizards ask of him and is making Coach Flip Saunders consider placing him in the Starting Lineup to see what he can do. If that does happen, all signs point to Marvin Williams being the odd man out as his defensive play has been questionable at best so far this season.
Marcus Jordan rebounded nicely from his disastrous performance against Milwaukee. Despite being a 2nd round pick he has outshined 1st rounder and fellow rookie Shawn Kemp Jr. and the contest isn't even close. Wizards assistant coach Sam Cassell has been spending extra time with Jordan and that certainly is showing.

Top 5 Incoming Freshmen
1) Timo Cruz, Maryland Terrapins
Timo Cruz will join a talented group at Maryland
Timo Cruz will join a talented group at Maryland
Timo Cruz is an outstanding talent. He can get to the basket as fast as anyone I've ever seen, and has lightning quick hands. He uses excellent ball-handling and one-on-one moves to break down defenses and opposing defenders. Cruz has a big frame, great speed, and explosive quickness and leaping ability. He needs to work on his outside jumpshot some because he isn't consistent from there. His pros heavily beat his cons however, and he will be a huge asset for Maryland.
2) Petey Chambers, Georgetown Hoyas
Chambers is outstanding in the low post
Chambers is outstanding in the low post
Petey Chambers is incredible. He is an excellent scorer with good mental toughness. For being 7'0 tall, he has an amazingly soft touch. He has a beautiful turnaround jumpshot, and he gets to the line well while shooting at a solid clip. He has the potential to be one of the best passing big men in the NCAA as well. Extremely long wingspan makes him a terrific shot blocker and rebounder.
3) Junior Battle, Georgetown Hoyas
Junior Battle and Petey Chambers will be unstopable this season
Junior Battle and Petey Chambers will be unstopable this season
The Hoyas will be too good this year. They will overmatch just about anyone they play down low because of Junior Battle and Petey Chambers. Teams will have a tough time scoring inside against Battle as he is a terrific defensive player and shot blocker. He has a good head on his shoulders, is very competitive, smart and is an unselfish player. Solid post up game, even though though it is not his greatest strength. His 6'10 frame make him an excellent rebounder as well. A 6'10 power forward paired up with a 7'0 scoring center; Count me out!
4) Chris Singleton, North Carolina Tarheels
Two words: Floor General
Two words: Floor General
Chris Singleton's game is similar to Chris Paul's. He is lightning quick and is almost impossible to stay in front of. He can play above the rim despite his lack of height. Doesn’t have an imposing frame, but compensates with great heart and athleticism; he plays bigger than he is. He could turn in to one of the best passers in the game with great vision and high basketball IQ. Outstanding scorer when offense is needed, as he drain drain outside shots. Singleton plays tremendous defense when motivated because of his quick hands.
5) Sean Webb, Villanova Wildcats
Webb is excited to make an impact for the wildcats this season
Webb is excited to make an impact for the wildcats this season
This kid is one of my favorites coming into the league. Although he is very limited athletically, he is a true gamer with exceptional basketball knowledge and skills. He will rebound well because he is a wide body that knows the positioning game well. He will struggle defensively against athletic bigs because his lack of athleticism, but he can match up them mentally even if he cannot match up will them physically. He and Chris Kramer will make quite the dynamic duo in Villanova this season.

Post-Game Interview
Paul Westphal: "This is not only our 3rd game lost in a row, but the second in a row with a 20+ point loss. I'm not going to say anything specific yet, but things are going to change. We don't have a single player who can shoot the 3, and we can stop the fast break. I don't see us winning a single game at this rate."
Kevin Martin (Player of the Game): "I guess they shouldn't have traded me after all."
Marcus Thornton (King's Player of the Game): "We couldn't stop anyone. We tried to implement our plays on defense, and none of them worked. It was a hard game, and practice for the rest of the week is going to be hard. I'm confident that we'll come back from this."

Jon Ratski's Review
Kings drop 3 straight with a big loss against the Rockets
Things are not looking good for the Kings. It wasn't the referee's fault, it wasn't the other team making great shots. It was Kings. All Kings. There is no one to blame for this loss but the coach and players themselves. They are making every team look like a championship team at the moment. So let's break down this game and see just where things went wrong.
- Rockets outscored the Kings in the paint 44 to 24
- Kings couldn't even stop the Bench, letting them score 30 points
- Rockets shot 57% where the Kings only shot 39%. Nothing was dropping
- All 5 of the Rockets starters got to the foul line and were successful, shooting 77% on the line where the Kings only shot 42%
- Marcus Thorton, the Kings top scorer, still only shot 55%. |8-15, 2 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl|
- Tyreke Evans shot 6-10 from the field, 2-2 from beyond the arc, and was the only well performing player for the Kings
- Eugene Jeter still producing fairly well, 3-7 on the field with 2 assists.
- Demarcus Cousins tried to pull his team up with 8 points in a row, yet only 3-8
- Dalembert kept beating his head against the wall with a 1-6 performance.
- It was "Beat on Kings" day, since all but one player on the Rockets scored at least 2 points,
- Yao Ming blocked 5 shots, and was unstoppable down low.

As we suspected, Paul Westphal has already submitted a new starting roster. Due to the game that Jeter had last game, he made a few switches to place him into the 2nd line spot.Sacramento Kings Depth Chart - 2010 | ||||

Post-Game Interviews
Paul Westphal: "This game came down to the fact that they were a better team. We made stupid fouls, and played no defense. Ginobli was unstoppable and made impossible shots. You just can't win with that type of gameplay."
Manu Ginobli (Player of the Game): "I always enjoy games like these. Everything was clicking. I just couldn't miss, and the coach saw that. So they kept giving me the ball and I kept making it."
Tyreke Evans (King's Player of the Game): "Wanna see a game where the referees were playing against you harder than the other team, and every shot we attempted just didn't fall? Re-watch this game. Ridiculous."

Jon Ratski's Review
What just happened? Kings fall to Spurs with a 22 point gap.
Nothing the Kings threw out was working. In fact, the Kings didn't lead once in this game, and I don't even know where to begin. Sure, the referees were rough on the Kings. I mean, Jeter gets batted in the back of the head by Parker, and no call? Regardless of the referees, you just can't win when Ginobli is putting up 30 points, and shooting at 72%. It didn't matter how many people were on him. Ginobli is the kind of player who will make a shot even if you slap him in the face as he goes up.
So let's break down this game!
- The Kings only made 28 of there 65 shots. That performance is just begging for a loss.
- The Spurs out-rebounded the Kings 30 to 20.
- No one could stop the Spurs down-low. 52 of their 85 came from the pain, where only 24 of the Kings 63 was down low.
- Spurs fast break points blew away the Kings 19 to 2.
- Eugene Jeter must have gotten a big head. He only shot 5-15.
- Tyreke Evans did all he could to carry this team. 3-4 from down town and 8-16 from the field, with a block and 3 steals.
- Demarcus Cousins came to play, 5-7 from the field.
- Only three of the Kings players scored 10+ points, where 3 of the Spurs scored 10+ with Ginoblis 30+ game.
- Richard Jefferson shot 100%, 6-6 FG, 3-3 3PT.
- Spurs outscored the Kings in every quater, except for the 3rd.

Post-Game Interviews
Paul Westphal: "I don't really want to talk about this game. We had 11 turnovers. Assuming we could've scored every time down we turned over, the final score would have been 90 - 77. We could have easily won if we would have just held on to the basketball. But hey, that's what practice is for."
Jason Kidd (Player of the Game): "This was a really fun game, you know? We were working on all cylinders, and it's hard to lose when we play like that. They gave us a little scare near the end, but we managed to hold out."
Eugene Jeter (King's Player of the Game): "I mean, it would've been nice to win this game. I feel like I performed exactly how the coach wanted me to for my first game int he NBA. We just didn't do enough things right to win. But man, even when we were down 20 points in the third, coach Westphal just kept telling us to get out there and work at it one basket at a time. That gave me the motivation to carry the 4th quater."
Jon Ratski's Review
"Butler slaps Kings with 22 points and a Maverick win."
These guys were down 20 at one point in the third quater, and it looked like this game was all Mavericks all game long. To be fair, look at the stat sheet! There's no way you can win a game with that many differences. Kings could not stop the Mavericks top four players, Caron Butler (22 points), Jason Terry (16 points), Jason Kidd (12 points, 14 assists), and Dirk Nowitzki (11 points). I'm sorry, but when Jason Kidd is throwing around 14 assists and pounding out a double double, you can't win. The kings needed to keep a hand in his face, and unfortunately Udrih could not do that. The Mavericks showed off what a playoff contending team can do. If most of the season is like this, than the Kings are in for a long journey.
Noticeable Stat Differences
Kings - 14 |Assists| 23 - Mavericks
Kings - 11 |Turnovers| 3 - Mavericks
Kings - 3 |Steals| 10 - Mavericks
Kings - 8 |Blocks| 3 - Mavericks
Tyreke Evans
What a disappointing start from the Kings "Star" player. He missed EVERY three point attempt he made (0-3) and only managed to shoot 43% from the field. In the second half, it looked like he missed every time he got the ball. We knew that Evans wasn't a strong mid-long range shooter, but that's where 70% of Kings shots were. He needs to improve in that area.
| 16 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 6-14, 43% |
Francisco Garcia
I would like to crown this guy the first half king. When the Kings were still in this game, Garcia was leading the way. While Evans missed shots, Garcia was making them. I see a lot of playing time in this man's future.
| 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks |
Eugene Jeter
Who is this man? He was UNDRAFTED this past year, and it's now his rookie season. Yet he put up the number he did, shooting a fantastic 88% from the field, missing a contested jumper in the end of the fourth! I mean Jeter took CHARGE in the 4th quater and managed to bring the Kings within 8 points! It'll be interesting to see what happens now that this kid has proven he can score.
Most surprising successful line-up from the Kings
PG: Eugen Jeter
SG: Tyreke Evans
SF: Omri Casspi
PF: Jason Thompson
C: Demarcus Cousins
And they kept this lineup the ENTIRE 4th quater. And why not? They almost pulled this game back within reach. Why would you sub out any player when this lineup was on a role?
We'll see if any changes come next game. The potential is there, but the execution isn't.
The Roster
Confirmed Situationals
1st Line (Starters)
PG: Beno Udrih
SG: Tyreke Evans
SF: Francisco Garcia
PF: Jason Thompson
C: Demarcus Cousins
Paul Westphal: "This starting roster emphasizes a new direction for Sacramento. I do not believe in "Star Players". I want a team of 5 out their winning games. To start, the position of starting PG is still up in the air. We've decided to start Udrih right now due to his experience in the league and his ability to shoot close and medium range shots, a focal point of our offense. SG will go to Tyreke Evans, since his size is perfect for that position despite his comfort in the PG position. Small Forward will be Garcia. We hope this year will prove to be a break out year for him. Jason Thompson and Cousins will round out of big man front."
2nd Line (Bench)
PG: Marcus Thornton
SG: Marquis Daniels
SF: Omri Casspi
PF: Donte Greene
C: Samuel Dalembert
Paul Westphal: "I honestly believe the success of our season will come down to how well these 5 play together. The sixth man emphasis will either come from the SG or SF spot, depending on our opponent. Casspi will be considered our general 6th man, however Daniels will also be seeing a lot of play time as well, even next to Evans at times. Greene and Dalembert will be rounding out the big front, typically subbing in at the same time."
3rd Line (Development)
PG: Eugene Jeter
SG: Jermaine Taylor
SF: Tyreke Evans
PF: Omri Casspi
C: Demarcus Cousins
Paul Westphal: "This line is a very short-term line. This group will get at least a few minutes every game to give our new players a chance to get on the floor every game. Our prospective rookie, Eugene Jeter, will hopefully prove to be a successful point guard in our franchise. Jermaine Taylor will be a SG, which moves Tyreke Evans to a SF spot to keep at least one starter on the court. I've moved Omri Casspi to PF since his size can match up well, and rounded up the center with Demarcus Cousins."
Keys to Success
Paul Westphal: "I'm very excited for this season. I believe that, if Evans can improve from Medium and Long-Range, we can win a lot of games. Our front court needs some work too. I will expel some rumors now, I am looking at the trade market and rumor mills as we speak. There are no details as to specifics, but we will be looking to move our rosters around."

Just before the start of the season the Magic have announced one more trade and two signings.
First the trade:
Wizards Receive:Chris Duhon, Quentin Richardson
Magic Receive: Maurice Evans
Really just a salary dump here for the Magic. The Wizards obtain Duhon, the journeyman point guard, who can help John Wall a bit in his development. They also get Q to bolster their weak small forward position.
The Magic have also announced the signings of Rashad McCants and Jake Voskuhl. Voskuhl is there just in case of the need of another big body and McCants has shown potential in his years in the NBA. He has had issues with coaches and hopefully SVG can keep him in line.

Well we have a taker!
It's common knowledge that David Kahn is not happy with Jonny Flynn and it doesn't seem like Ricky Rubio will be coming overseas anytime soon. Gilbert Arenas will be moving to Minnesota, here are the details:
Minnesota Receives:Gilbert Arenas, Daniel Orton, Malik Allen
Orlando Receives:Michael Beasley, Anthony Tolliver, Sebastian Telfair
Minnesota took a risk on bringing in Gilbert Arenas, and took on a lot of salary for him. With that risk they also get the solid big man prospect they need for cheap in Daniel Orton. Malik Allen was thrown in for his expiring contract as opposed to having Tolliver for two more years.
Orlando got what they wanted in a stretch four with Beasley. He played the four in Miami and was moved out to the three more in Minnesota. He's not going to bang a ton inside, but will spread the floor for Dwight and is an elite athlete. Telfair could possibly find a few backup minutes if he outperforms Chris Duhon.

Seeing as the Magic have been fairly successful in recent years you might think that no major changes need to be made. That's not how I see it though. We need to make some major changes to get back the NBA Finals. Here are some key points I would like to address within the next year or two:
Gilbert Arenas will be shopped but there is no guarantee he will be moved. Who on earth would want to take his massive contract?
Hedo Turkoglu is on the hot seat. We need production from him, especially with the size of his contract. If he doesn't put up, he could be moved.
Brandon Bass has shown flashes of being a good role player, but seeing as we are looking for a new starting power forward, he may or may not have one foot out the door.
However this plays out, look for changes to be made before the season starts and depending on how it goes, there could be trade deadline deals in the future
- A stretch four, preferably someone with elite athleticism
- A wing player that can create their own shot
- Reasonable contracts across the board

As a young man living in Orlando, I would really like to like the Magic. I was born in Boston so the C's will always be my favorite team, but I also want the Magic to do well.
With that being said, I would like to take control of the Orlando Magic. I will make roster moves that I think will be beneficial and move them closer to a championship.
I will play one game a month, simming the rest, and play all playoff games. I'll be playing 12 minute quarters on All Star, hoping to get some realistic stats.
Hopefully I can right this ship and give you all an enjoyable read too!

Here's the highlight video for week five of the season.
Beasley had his best game for the Wolves
December 4th, 2010. With Kevin Love and Martell Webster out, the Cleveland Cavaliers came into Minnesota fancying their chances. For the Timberwolves it was a game they wanted to work on their processes and find better ways to get people involved. Michael Beasley benefited most from this attitude, putting on his best all round performances since joining the Timberwolves. Beasley has been struggling as he adjusts to not being the alpha scorer he expected to be when he first was traded to the Timberwolves. For Beasley the acquisition of Isaiah Rider seriously dented his desire to be in Minnesota, but showing class of character he has knuckled down and tried to prove himself worthy of being the second go to scorer.
The game was a back and forth affair early, with scores being locked at 22 at the first break. Anderson Varejao and Ramon Sessions being the main keys for the Cavaliers team, still reeling from Lebron's defection to Miami. The Cavs did try and make this a team scoring event and this helped them keep the Wolves defence off guard, however the Wolves did break away with better shooting to lead by 7 points at half time, with Flynn having a field day dishing to Beasley and Rider who were proving a deadly tandem, Flynn would finish with 18 assists on the night.
Rider helped the Wolves to a 7 point lead in the second quarter
Not to be out done Sessions ignited the Cavs in the third quarter on his way to 15 points and 14 assists for the game. The Cavs went on a solid run to take the lead late in the third by a point. The Cavs would be further in front if not for the poor shooting from Anthony Parker from beyond the arc, he only hit one of seven three attempts all night.
Going into the final break the Wolves knew they had a game on their hands and backup point guard Eric Bledsoe decided it was time to step up, he scored 10 of his 18 points in the final quarter as the Wolves took control of the game and pushed the Cavs to arms length. The Wolves were able to hold on and win by nine points, thanks in large to Rider (30 points, six assists), Beasley (20 points, 8 rebounds), Bledsoe (18 points, 5 assists) and Wes Johnson (17 points, 3 rebounds).
Rider was player of the game with his 30 points and 6 dimes
