Surprise, AZ -- For the second time in as many days, the Cincinnati Reds find themselves on the losing end of the game against the Texas Rangers. The Reds offense struggled again as manager Dusty Baker rested some of the starters after last night's frustrating performance. Reds pitching didn't fare much better as they surrendered 5 home runs to the home team. Starter Bronson Arroyo pitched 6 innings giving up 3 earned. Relievers Alfredo Simon and Jose Arredondo gave up 3 home runs combined in the 8th inning.
Scoring got started for the Rangers in the 3rd when Ian Kinsler hit a 2 run shot off the scoreboard in left field after Mitch Moreland led the inning off with a double.
The Rangers got another run in the 4th off the hot bat of David Murphy who hit his 2nd home run in as many nights against the Reds. Murphy has had an outstanding spring for the Rangers as he is hitting .373 with 6 HR and a league best 25 RBI.
Texas got 4 more runs in the 8th inning off of Reds relievers. The first 2 runs came by way of a Nelson Cruz 2 run home run off Alfredo Simon. Arredondo replaced Simon and gave up back to back solo shots to A.J. Pierzynski and Moreland. The Rangers lead the league in batting average (.300), Runs (124), Triples (6), RBI (122) and on base percentage (.353).
The Reds got their lone run in the top of the 9th on a RBI ground out by Denis Phipps after Todd Frazier walked and Jack Hannahan doubled to start off the inning.
The Reds get the day off tomorrow before starting off the final 5 days of spring training beginning on Tuesday when they face off against the Oakland Athletics at Goodyear Ballpark. Johnny Cueto will make his final start of the spring for the Reds.
Projected Starters: Johnny Cueto (2-0) vs A.J. Griffin (1-1)

REDS EDGE A'S BEHIND MESORACO'S FIRST HOME RUN OF SPRING
Goodyear, AZ -- The Cincinnati Reds bounced back from a mini 2 game losing streak to defeat the Oakland Athletics 3-2 in Goodyear, Arizona. The Reds offense was powered by backup catcher Devin Mesoraco who hit a big 2 run shot to give the Reds the edge. Mesoraco backed a stong effort from Reds starter Johnny Cueto who was making his final tune up start of the spring. Cueto went 6.1 innings giving up 2 runs of 8 hits while striking out 3 Athletics.
Scoring got started early for a change for the home Reds. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Joey Votto grounded up the middle for a single, scoring Brandon Phillips who reached second on a throwing error by Josh Donaldson.
The Athletics tied things up at 1 in the top of the second when Donaldson singled to right, scoring Hill and advancing Jed Lowrie to 3rd. The Reds got the lead back in the bottom of the 2nd when Mesoraco stepped up and hit a 2 run home run to center, scoing Zack Cozart who singled to lead off the inning. The home run was Mesoraco's first of the spring.
The A's cut the lead to 3-2 in the 6th when Brandon Moss singled to left, scoring Nakajima who double to lead off the inning. The A's threatened in the 7th when Coco Crisp bunted his way on to lead off the inning and stole 2nd. After Lowrie flied out, advancing Crisp to 3rd, Donaldson was intentionally walked by Cueto. Cueto was then removed from the game with one out and runners at the corners. J.J. Hoover replaced Cueto and got out of the jam by inducing pinch hitter John Jaso into the inning ending 6-4-3 double play.
The Reds bullpen did the rest of the work from there as Jonathan Broxton and Sean Marshall split a scoreless 8th and Aroldis Chapman came in to close the door in the 9th.

The Reds continue the final week of spring training as the take on the San Diego Padres tomorrow at Goodyear Ballpark. Reds #5 starter Mike Leake will get the nod for the home team in his final start before opening day.
Projected Starters: Mike Leake (2-0) vs Clayton Richard (0-0)
LEAKE THROWS 8 SHUTOUT INNINGS AS REDS WIN ON PAUL'S 9TH INNING SAC FLY
Goodyear, AZ -- Reds might have more depth in the rotation than some may think. Number 5 starter Mike Leake pitched like an ace in his final tuneup before the season starts next week. Leake pitched 8 shutout innings while only surrendering 3 hits and striking out 4 Padres in the strong effort. Leake took a no hitter into the 6th before Chris Denorfia hit a lazy fly ball into center that was almost caught by a sliding Shin-Soo Choo. Leake's gem set the Reds up for a win in the bottom of the 9th. Cincinnati walked off with a Sac Fly to center by Xavier Paul.
The pitchers duel between Leake and Padres starter Clayton Richard was fierce as neither team could get a sustained rally going. Both teams threatened to score at points during the game but could not cash in.
Finally in the bottom of the 9th, the Reds came through. Brandon Phillips led the inning off with a single. Then Joey Votto doubled down the 3rd base line and into left field moving Phillips to 3rd. Ryan Ludwick then was set down on strikes by San Diego closer Houston Street. The next batter, Miguel Olivo, was intentionally walked to set up the double play ball and the force at any base. Paul came up with one out and hit a ball fairly deep into left center field. The ball was caught on the run but Phillips was able to tag up and score easily with his speed. After the game, Xavier Paul said "I knew all I had to do was to hit a ball hard in the air and Brandon was going to be all to score".
Notable Performers
Xavier Paul: 1-1, 2B, SF, RBo
Mike Leake: 8.0 IP, 3 H, 4 K

BRUCE & FRAZIER GO BACK TO BACK TO POWER REDS PAST MARINERS
Goodyear, AZ -- The Cincinnati Reds said goodbye to their spring training facility with a 4-1 win over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier hit back to back home runs in the 4th inning off M's starter Erasmo Ramirez. Reds starter Mat Latos pitched well in his final start of the spring. He went 6.0 innings only giving up 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 6.
Latos only made one mistake in the game today and it was a big one. In the 3rd inning after throwing 2 perfect innings to start the game, he served one up to the veteran Raul Ibanez for the solo shot.
The Reds would answer back with 3 runs in a big 4th inning. After Ryan Ludwick reached base with an infield single, right fielder Jay Bruce got himself into a hitters count and sent a high fastball over the right field fence for a 2 run home run. The next batter, Todd Frazier, also went yard to deep center for his first home run of the spring giving the Reds to 3-1 advantage.
The Reds would get an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th inning when Emmanuel Burris doubled to center, scoring Jason Donald who walked to get on base.
The Reds bullpen backed Latos' effort with 3 hitless innings. Manny Parra pitched the 7th, Logan Ondrusek pitched the 8th, and Jose Arredondo pitched the 9th, recording the save.
Notable Performers
Jay Bruce: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R
