Padres Strike Early, Never Look Back

It doesn't take much to set the tone of the game in baseball, and here at Citifield it only took the first inning. Tejada made an error on the very first play of the game, and Cowgill followed that up by misplaying a flyball, giving up a triple. The Padres would go on to score 3 in the first and never looked back, gaining the season opener victory by a score of 5-2.

Notables:

SD Chase Headley: 3-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 2B, 2 R (Player of the Game Honors)

NYM Lucas Duda: 2-3, HR, RBI, 2B, R

Injury Bug Hits Early

In today's rubber match v.s. the Padres, Dillon Gee was injured. He sustained a pulled hamstring in the 4th inning and will be out for about 3 to 4 weeks. The New York Mets have placed Dillon Gee on the 15-Day DL and have called up the Left handed SP Collin McHugh. McHugh is expected to make his debut April 9th vs the Philadelphia Phillies.

McHugh had a shaky year in the MLB last year, going 0-4 with a 7.59 ERA. He looks to turn that around this upcoming week.

Thanks for the follow, yes the Mets are a real interesting team. They seem to be always injury plagued and don't really have that many big household names on their roster. On the other hand, they are a scrappy bunch, and with a few key additions I think we will be fine in the upcoming years

Hey folks! It's been brought to my attention that not much has been said about our new potential franchise catcher, Travis d'Arnaud, besides that he had a productive spring training. This post is going to catch you up with our new man in our recent addition to the Fanatic blog called "Meet the Mets"

Every so often we will try and introduce the fans at home to some of our players who wear everyone's favorite uniform day in and day out. Here is our man of the hour, Travis d'Arnaud.

Travis redone.png

Travis d'Arnaud / C, NYM
Born 2/10/1989 (24 yrs old)
Lakewood, CA, USA
School: -
Height 6-2
Weight 195
Bats/Throws R/R

Scouting Report Travis D'Arnaud is one of the very top catching prospects in baseball today. Travis is an offensively gifted catcher who's ready for major league ball, at least from an offensive perspective: he slashed .333/.380/.595 last year at AAA Las Vegas, ticking off 16 homers in 67 games. A major prize in the sell-high trade of RA Dickey in December 2012, d'Arnaud also has above-average speed for a catcher to go along with a great eye for the strike zone. While his game-calling and defense aren't quite ready for prime time (yet), he'll be pushed along quickly. He should be hitting high in any Mets batting order in 2013, and for years to come.

Phillies Hamel Outduels Harvey, Dominates Mets Hitters

Cole Hamels advances to 2-0 on the season with an absolute dominate outing in today's game at Citizens Bank Park. He gave up 1 hit in 8 innings, then another 2 in the 9th before being pulled. Papelbon was summoned for cleanup duty and got a double play ball off the bat of David Murphy, which also scored the Mets only run of the night. David Wright singled and then was thrown out attempting to steal on a passed ball to end the game.

The Phillies climb to 5-2 while the Mets fall to 3-4 after the first game of the series.

We wouldn't be the Mets if somebody wasn't always hurt! I just hope our rotation can hold it down until Gee gets back, I don't want to rush Wheeler up to the bigs if he isn't ready, I'd prefer to see how he fairs in AAA first.
