Penalizing great players who play with other great players

Penalizing great players who play with other great players

Here is something I don't understand and makes no sense

You have a player in any sport who is great.

Then someone comes along and says "Well he had good players around him"

Which means what exactly?

Name me the athlete that said "Well we do have a good team, but I don't want to play with other good players. Lets go find some guys who don't what they are doing and ill play with them so people wont question my greatness"

Just because I am good/great at my job and just so happen to work with some other people that are also good, that doesn't mean that I still don't have to do my job.

If I am a chef and I work at the best restaurant in the world, I still have to cook the food right. If I made burnt or uncooked meals, then it wouldn't matter if I was surrounded by a great staff.

EVERYONE STILL HAS TO DO THEIR JOB REGARDLESS OF HOW GREAT THEY ARE.

Working with other great workers doesn't take away from me being a great worker. I still know how to do my job well right? right...lol

Also, why the hell would you want to work with people that don't know what they are doing? Of course you need other people who know how to do their jobs in order to win.

Every championship team, in every sport had multiple good to great players so you cant penalize a guy for that.

The Dallas Cowboys are usually the the team brought up in this nonsense. Let me be clear right now that I am not a Dallas fan. I say that because someone will probably assume that but thats not the case. They are just an example.

People would say "Well Aikman had Smith and Irvin" or "Smith had a good line"...etc etc. These are factual statements but lets dig a little deeper.

Michael Irvin was the first of the triplets to come to the Cowboys in 1988. From 1986 to 1990, the Cowboys were very bad. After Irvin, then came Aikman in 89 then Emmit in 90.

The triplets (Aikman,Smith,Irvin) became great together. They didnt get drafted to a powerhouse team that had just come off of a Superbowl win. They became that powerhouse team.

In order to win you need good players, plural. That great Quarterback still has to read defenses and make accurate throws. That great runningback still has to read defenses and hit the holes correctly. That great wide receiver still has to run the right routes and catch the ball, so no matter how good or great your teammates are, you still have to execute YOUR job.

Stop discriminating against young sports gamers

Stop discriminating against young sports gamers

I'm 32 years old.

My very first experience with a sports videogame was Tecmo Bowl. I can assume that most of us here used this game a springboard into the wonderful world of sports gaming that was soon to follow.

Over the years I would go on to play numerous titles. These games did alot for me as a sports fan. They helped me to learn the sports I loved. I learned about formations, players, history and how to actually play the sport.

I wouldnt say that these games were a substitute for actually playing in real life, they were just compliments. I already played here and there, in real life. The games just helped to boost my interest.

The point of this blog is that there was never a time then, where some adult told me "Hey little Johnny, you shouldnt be playing this game you are too young" (my name isnt Johnny but you get what Im saying)

There was none of that sort of nonsense, so it baffles me in 2014, that all of sudden now my peers are bemoaning kids who want to play these games and companies who are trying to get them onboard.

Everyone has to start somewhere and you cant help when you were born. I realize these games are much more detailed and hardcore as compared to the earliest games in the late 80s and 90s, but these kids are alot more advanced at their ages then we were with this sort of thing now.

I remember getting Joe Montana Sports Talk II for Christmas. My dad was sure that I wouldnt know how to play the game so he hid if from me at first. He was wrong. Not only did I figure out the game but I flourished.

This game helped me get into becoming a deep fan of the NFL. I was somewhat aware of the players, for example I knew Detroit had this really fast runningback and everyone knew about the 49ers.

:drink:

We have to remember where we came from. If you are in your 30s or late 20s, then you were also a "Little Johnny" at one point. You also had to find your way. There are more little johnnies playing these games then us.

People gripe about sports games having tutorials as well. Hello, did you know what a 3-4 defense or a 2-3 zone was at 9 years old?!. I dont think so , and I have no problem with any game teaching a kid about what these things are.

I was taught so why shouldnt they get taught. I think its awesome. Let these kids experience these things.

If companies want to market to these kids too, then so be it. Why wouldnt they? What sense would it make to run a business and exclude a demographic just to appease another? It doesnt.

Look, I know you are old, jaded, and cynical. Sometimes I am too, however that young kid isnt yet.

I know these kids arent going to play the game we way want them too. I didnt either back in the day. In Joe Montana I would do laps around the field with the fastest back before I scored lol. Eventually I learned to play games the right way but I was 9 then. It happens.

The bottom line is, lets relax on them. Kids deserve to play these games too and hopefully it will help them learn the sports and encourage them to become hardcore fans and gamers.

..but first you have to crawl before you walk. :drink:

A Compromise to paying College Athletes

A Compromise to paying College Athletes

The debate rages on about whether or not NCAA student athletes, in the two major men's sports, should be paid. I've come to the conclusion that they shouldn't be paid in the traditional sense that athletes are paid and that there shouldn't be a union.

I came to this conclusion because I felt that the argument for student athletes to be paid just didn't convince me enough. Those in favor of pay for play didn't devise a plan for how such a system would work in my opinion. If they would have come up with something tangible, besides just saying "they should be paid" then I would have been more than happy to agree if it made sense.

However, even though I eventually disagreed with pay for play, I came up with my own idea.

What if student athletes were able to get something from the revenue generated from products that bare their likeness?

This money would not come from the NCAA or the particular University of the player. The athlete would get a percentage and everyone else (NCAA,University, product company,) would also get their cut.

Another facet of this it would also expand to all student athletes, not just the men and not just the two major collegiate sports of football and basketball.

The NCAA and major conferences would still get their money and now the players would have something as well.

Tell me what you think of this idea. If you see flaws in my idea, then by all means destruct it and add your own. It is just an idea.

Very frustrated with the marketing of Next-Gen sports titles in year one

Posted 11-11-2013 at 01:53 PM by TheRealHST
It;s frustrating that the only half-a**ed footage that we got for Madden 25 was from some guy playing around in instant replay and gushing over skin textures and footwork.

As for 2K we are relying on a couple of guys who insist on trying to advertise their s*** beats during their horrible cell phone captures just to see Next gen game footage NBA2k14.

I'm very disappointed in the marketing of all the next gen titles , from all the companies. It's the middle of November and the PS4 and Xbone will be here in perspective weeks, YET, NO EXPLANTION OF THE GAME MODES AS A WHOLE AND NO OFFICIAL GAMEPLAY VIDEOS.

We shouldn't have to rely on amateur photographers (using the term loosely) to get info on these games.
I understand companies don't like to show their hand to the competition and want to build anticipation.....but its November not June. It almost makes me think this is all on purpose...

I am still very much excited about these titles, but I wish we would have had all the info by now.
