It was originally feared by team physicians that Goff had a ruptured disk that would require season-ending surgery. With the injury downgraded, no invasive procedure will be necessary, and with therapy and natural healing Goff may be able to make a postseason appearance if the Rams get that far. It would more likely be in the divisional round than the wild card round, but first LA has to get there. “It’s a relief that there’s not going to be a scalpel anywhere near my spinal cord,” Goff said. With Carr, Raiders Win 5th Straight, Could Have First Winning Season Since ‘02 Despite the loss of Derek Carr, the Oakland Raiders managed to collect their fifth consecutive victory, defeating the Arizona Cardinals 37-21, making this just the third time since their 2002 AFC championship that the Silver & Black have had a non-losing season. The other two were both 8-8, so if the Raiders can pick up one more W in the next three weeks, they will end the drought of winning seasons at 16 years. From another perspective, babies who were born the last year that Oakland had a winning season are now getting their driver’s licenses. Unfortunately another dark cloud is casting a shadow on Oakland’s playoff chances- Dalvin Cook is out with a hip injury that may have cut his season short. G-Men Avoid First 1-Win Season Since 1966 By defeating the New Orleans Saints, the New York Giants have avoided what could have been only the second 1-win season in the history of the franchise (est. 1925). The one and still only was in 1966, when the G-Men went 1-12-1, having two fewer opportunities to win with a 14-game schedule. 2018 could still be their worst season since '66, however. 2-14 would be worse than the 2-11-1 and 2-12 seasons of 1973-74. 3-13 would be more awful than 1976, exceeding it by two losses and would also be a half-game worse than the 3-12-1 campaign of 1983. A 4-12 season is much closer in history, though. That was New York’s record in 2003, the season before they drafted Philip Rivers and traded him for Eli Manning. Since then the G-Men have done no worse than 6-10. Needing to win out to reach 5-11, they have already assured that this will be the worst year of the Manning era. Could it be the last as well? Bell Cleared, Will Play vs. Falcons Le’Veon Bell has received an early clearance from the Pittsburgh medical staff and will appear in the Steelers’ Monday Night Football contest against the Atlanta Falcons. How many touches he gets remains to be seen, and may depend on Big Ben, who has taken the NFL passing yardage lead during Bell’s absence. Re: California Dreamin'
Dual-threat quarterback Keith Jackson of Texas-San Antonio has been staging a season-long upset of preseason frontrunner Lamar Jackson in the race for the Heisman Trophy, and on Saturday night he collected the hardware as Louisville’s constipated-looking signal-caller looked on. Lamar won the 2016 award but dropped out of the competition last year due to a season-ending injury. The Louisville Jackson bounced back well enough this year to be projected as the no. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft (the winner has long been saying that he will play out his eligibility), but his team has not fared as well. Meanwhile, “KJ” has guided the upstart Roadrunners to a 13-0 record and a no. 2 ranking behind the top-ranked Ohio St. Buckeyes. UTSA has the second seed in the upcoming college football playoff, an unprecedented achievement for a team which has only been playing football at the NCAA’s highest level since 2012. The only comparison in recent memory would be if Boise St. had had a shot at a national title in 2002, but the Broncos didn’t even play in a BCS bowl game until 2006, their 11th season of playing with the big boys.

Re: California Dreamin'
Sean THE MANnion has done it again. For the second time in as many tries, the Los Angeles Rams’ formerly unheralded backup quarterback has bent over the Green Bay Packers. Mannion completed 20 of 33 passes for 353 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Cordarrelle Patterson, who had his best game in a Rams uniform with 6 catches for 216 yards, and LA cruised past the Pack, 37-20. Mannion got plenty of help from the Los Angeles defense, which produced a pick-six by Brandon Chubb in the opening series, injured Aaron Rodgers on a sack by Robert Quinn, and which kept Green Bay out of the end zone until the fourth quarter. The Rams were already up 30-8 when the Packers scored their first touchdown, and while the LA D did give up a late score, the only thing it hurt was the defenders’ pride. With Rodgers out, free-agent-to-be Brett Hundley played well enough (25/43, 258 yards, 2 TD) to draw interest from teams contemplating a change under center in 2019. If the Rams can win at least one of the last two games of the regular season, they which achieve back-to-back seasons of double-digit wins for the first time since the three year run of 1999-2001.
Thanks to Brandon Chubb’s pick-six, the Rams had a 7-0 lead before their offense took the field. The pass had been bobbled by tight end Richard Rodgers, who later lost a fumble as well. The back injury inflicted upon Aaron Rodgers by Robert Quinn has huge implications for the NFC North race, which has yet to be decided between contenders who are now both minus their starting QB. Somebody get Mr. Rodgers a Snickers. Cordarrelle Patterson cam out of hibernation to catch 6 passes for 216 yards, including touchdowns of 75 (on a screen) and 55 (pictured). Highlights (9:44):
