Re: Hidden Gem: A Jacksonville Jaguars Franchise (Madden 17)

Below are the Awards I have given to the 2018 Jaguars. These awards are strictly opinionated and we not generated by Madden:

Jaguars Offensive Player of the Year
1. WR Allen Robinson
2. QB Brandon Allen
3. TE Julius Thomas
4. WR Allen Hurns
5. QB Blake Bortles

With 1,242 yards & 14 TD's to his name, Allen Robinson was not just our Team MVP, but quite easily a Top 3 WR in the entire NFL this season. Robinson led the LEAGUE in TD's & had he not been injured for multiple weeks, could have put up some Jerry Rice/Randy Moss NFL record numbers. Robinson is not the icing on the cake, he's the entire cake himself. Brandon Allen earned his spot on this list after what he did the final quarter of this season. Allen took a team heading for disaster, turned it around, and got us back to competing for the division. Julius Thomas and Allen Hurns continued to be flat out reliable, despite a few mishaps here and there. They are big threats in the passing game and can go off at times. Finally, Bortles deserves to be on this list for the success he generated in the first 5 games of the season, leading us to a 4-1 start.

Jaguars Defensive Player of the Year
1. (R) MLB Josey Jewell
2. (R) DT Garrett Sickels
3. DE Yannick Ngakoue
4. DE Dante Fowler Jr
5. CB Jalen Ramsey

(R) Josey Jewell not only won our Defensive Player of the Year Award, but is the AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year! Jewell was my 4th round selection in the 2018 Draft & a complete gem off the bat at a 77 OVR. I slotted him right into the MLB position over second year Ohio State man, Raekwon McMillan. Jewell found immediate success and was a monster in stopping the short/medium pass game. (R) Garrett Sickels was also an absolute stud this season coming in THIRD in the AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year voting! Sickels' 14 TFL's & 7.0 sacks were integral to turning the tide in games and winning us the battle. This, along with Yannick Ngakoue & Dante Fowler Jr's 22.5 sacks was a nightmare for opposing offenses. Speaking of nightmares, Jalen Ramsey may not light up the stat sheet, but he is one of the best corners in the league and has limited every top receiver coming into our games.

Jaguars Rookie of the Year
1. (R) MLB Josey Jewell
2. (R) DT Garrett Sickels
3. (R) RB James Conner
4. (R) RB Nick Wilson
5. (R) CB Derrick Tindal

There really does not need to be any more explanation on (R) Josey Jewell & (R) Garrett Sickels, they are animals. (R) James Conner came into 2018 highly touted and is developing well. He did not get the majority looks at RB, but did see his production increase when Chris Ivory went down. (R) Nick Wilson filled in at back a few times for passing downs & had a massive 53 yard screen play go for six. (R) Derrick Tindal was our backup nickel CB and was reliable enough when needed.

Re: Hidden Gem: A Jacksonville Jaguars Franchise (Madden 17)

Below are the results from the 2018 NFL offseason including: Retirees, Resigning, and Free Agency.

Jaguars Retirees
No Jaguars Retirements

We are a young team & it does not look like anyone is hanging up those cleats any time soon!

Jaguars Resigning
OLB Telvin Smith (86)
DE Dante Fowler Jr (85)
CB Doran Grant (74)

After giving us difficulty last season & forcing us to franchise tag him, Telvin Smith put up no fight as he resigned with us on a 5 year deal. Dante Fowler Jr was also a critical piece to get resigned as he has been nothing short of dominant over the last two seasons as one of our premier EDGE rushers. Doran Grant has been flat out good in the nickel and will possibly become our starting CB as Prince Amukamara regresses with age. Grant has does nothing but improve his OVR in the last two seasons & is much younger than Amukamara.

Jaguars Free Agency
RB Adrian Peterson (84)
RG AJ Cann (79)

Oh boy!!! Adrian Peterson signed a one year deal with Buffalo last season and we saw an immediate EXPLOSION in results from Buffalo. Is AP the modern day messiah? We have been nothing short of rough at the RB position over the last 3 seasons. We are young & have talent, but I want...I NEED a sure thing back there and AP is going to give that to us. We signed him to a one year deal for 3.25 Million. It could be his last season on the field, so let's make it one to never forget! AJ Cann declined resigning with us during the season, but I bidded for him in FA and he obliged. He's not the best G out there, but it'll do, it'll do.

Notable NFL Retirees
QB Drew Brees
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick
QB Jay Cutler
WR Larry Fitzgerald
OG Marshal Yanda
OT Joe Thomas
TE Jason Witten
OLB Elvis Dumervil

So long Brees! After signing a one year deal with the New York Jets, Drew Brees helped guide the Jets on a 7 game win streak to end the season & make the playoffs. They were unfortunately beat by the Titans in the Wild Card, but Brees was the best thing to happen at Jets QB in a very long time. Jason Witten also signed a new contract in 2018 with the Rams after a long career with Dallas including two Superbowls. Ryan Fitzpatrick had a late career stint with Arizona, but after watching them tumble he has called it quits. Fitzpatrick's career was full of ups and downs and he seemed to be in a new uniform every year. Good ole smokin' Jay Cutler is done as well, thank goodness. Larry Fitzgerald retires as one of the greatest WR's of all time. It's unfortunate the Cards never had consistent success, despite making it to the Superbowl in 2008. Some big O Line guys retire as well, Joe Thomas was as consistent as they come. Finally, another piece of the vaunted Ravens defense ends his days. The Ravens have seen players like Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, and many more retire over the last few seasons.

Top 15 Free Agency Signings
CB Marcus Peters (91) - Jets
FS Byron Jones (86) - Chiefs
OLB Vic Beasley Jr (86) - Ravens
RB Adrian Peterson (84) - Jaguars
TE Delanie Walker (84) - Saints
OLB Bud Dupree (84) - Jets
WR Terrance Williams (83) - Chiefs
OLB Shane Ray (83) - Giants
OLB Preston Smith (83) - Chiefs
DE Markus Golden (83) - Eagles
DE Mario Edwards Jr (83) - Bengals
WR Jermaine Kearse (83) - Ravens
WR Chris Conley (83) - Lions
DE Cliff Avril (83) - Falcons
OG Mark Glowinski (82) - Ravens

The Jets are at it again, signing a beast in CB Marcus Peters and the reigning AFC Best LB, Bud Dupree. Kansas City also got into the mix grabbing two very good defenders in Byron Jones & Preston Smith. They weren't done yet, however, as they snagged Terrance Williams to contribute in the pass game. Vic Beasley Jr heads to Baltimore to fill the hole left by Elvis Dumervil & former Raider DE Mario Edwards Jr signs a 4 year deal himself. The Ravens are in the midst of a rebuild so these young, talented pieces will go a long way.

Re: Hidden Gem: A Jacksonville Jaguars Franchise (Madden 17)

Below are my thoughts regarding the Jaguars 2019 NFL Draft:

Round 1
1. QB Jake Browning (76) - Washington

Blake Bortles signed a 5 year deal in 2017 and entered 2018 as our sure thing starter. The season got off to a good 4-1 start, but things quickly began to crumble when star WR Allen Robinson & starting RB Chris Ivory got injured. Bortles saw his production decrease dramatically while his turnovers remained on the rise. Turnovers have been a huge, HUGE problem for Blake as they have only gotten worse over the years. It's arguable, but his INT's were one of the main reasons we lost our Wild Card Playoff game to the Broncos in 2017 where he was picked 4 times. It wasn't until Bortles got injured in Week 14 that I kind of saw the light. Brandon Allen, a 65 OVR player, came in and was nothing short of incredible. We saw an offensive explosion with Allen under center & that, combined with a dominant defense, made us a true contender. The damage had already been done, however, as the multiple mid season losses held us back from reaching the postseason. Brandon Allen isn't starter material, unfortunately, and I know this was kind of a honeymoon period. Enter: Jake Browning. As the 4th QB taken in the 2019 Draft, Browning meets all the necessary criteria: Tall, big, strong arm, and durable. I have not decided on what I will do yet at the QB position, but having the option of starting Browning is something I desperately needed after the horrendous mid season collapse by Bortles.

Round 2
2. DT Kahlil McKenzie (72) - Tennessee

McKenzie was the best available DT I had scouted so I decided to pull the trigger. Malik Jackson has been our starting DT ever since the Jags signed him in the 2015 offseason from Denver, but he hasn't really produced what we have expected. Jackson had a decent 2017 campaign, upping his TFL's & sacks, but in 2018 regressed back to his 2016 results. Garrett Sickels started as our secondary DT in 2018, but after a massive season, including: 14 TFL's, 7.0 sacks, and third place in AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year voting, I have contemplated giving him the go ahead at starting RE where has has his highest OVR rating. With this change, Dante Fowler Jr will switch to LE where his OVR rating is two higher than his at RE. Yannick Ngakoue will move to secondary DT and Kahlil McKenzie will backup Ngakoue. We've got a really solid D Line, so rushing McKenzie in there right away is not a necessity.

Round 3
3. WR Courtland Sutton (69) - SMU
4. OG Ross Pierscbacher (72) - Alabama

We traded our backup WR, Rashad Greene Sr, last season because we had tremendous depth at the position. Courtland Sutton will join Travis Rudolph as the future successors to Allen Robinson & Allen Hurns. They're young, talented, and have so much time to grow and get better whilst getting action during the season by providing depth.

Ross Pierschbacher joins the O Line as a backup after we resigned AJ Cann in the FA. We signed Cann after the 2019 draft, so Pierscbacher was, at the time, aimed for the starting role.

Round 4
5. RB Mike Warren (72) - Iowa State
6. CB Davante Davis (68) - Texas

Iowa State RB, Mike Warren, was simply the best player available at the time. Warren will join Nick Chubb, Nick Wilson, and Larry Rose III as our speed passing RB's, while Adrian Peterson, James Conner, and Chris Ivory will be our north-south runners.

Davante Davis joins the crew for depth at the nickel behind Derrick Tindal.

Round 5
7. TE Ryan Izzo (70) - Florida State
8. CB Isaiah Oliver (66) - Colorado

We chose to not resign long time Jag, Marcedes Lewis, during the 2018 season. Needing not only a backup TE, but one to eventually succeed Julius Thomas, we settled on Florida State man, Ryan Izzo. Izzo is raw, but with a balanced pallet, he's versatile.

I chose Isaiah Oliver for KR/PR as his talent at this position was the strongest on the team. He will not contribute to the defense, but instead special teams.

Round 6
9. SS Mark McLaurin (71) - Ole Miss

McLaurin was the best player available in the 6th round. We are already tremendously deep at S, including: Jabrill Peppers, Steven Parker, Johnathan Cyprien, Marcus Maye, and Tony Conner. McLaurin will likely just be trade bait to eventually get a couple picks out of during the season.

Round 7
10. OT Tyree St. Louis (66) - Miami

We needed a backup at OT & that's exactly what we got here. No frills, just depth.
