While the pocket presence isn't great. The real failure of the AI is that they only throw the ball away out of bounds or if it would result in an intentional grounding they take a sack. Programming the AI to recognize a coming sack (higher on R for RH QB and weaker chance on Left) and then either use the check down or throw it near a receivers feet/area with no intention of making it would fix the issue and adjust QB completion percentages. That is how real football is played. Madden needs that more than scrambling. As it is the QB sits on a 4 vert route (also needs to be way rarer AI playcall) and takes a sack.

They have a throw away ball trait, but does it work?

The issue with these tweaks is that once you enter CFM, you can't edit a player's ratings, can you? So wouldn't this issue persist with incoming rookies?

Or did they make it so you can edit players in CFM this year?

You can edit a player's ratings in CFM. You could do it last year as well.

Intentional Grounding just flat out doesn't get called. It's literally one of the major things I complained about in 2016 AND in 2017. I wishlist'd it. I've bug reported it many times. I've asked Rex and Clint about it. It hasn't worked in I don't know how long.

QB's will sit in the pocket and throw the ball away sometimes with no receiver in the area (with the Throw Away Trait setting) and it doesn't get called.

AWR for Most QB's needs to be 65-78

Elite maybe higher. Too high for middle of road QB's

My thoughts on QB editing:

1. Only 6 QB's in Madden should have the Ideal Sense Pressure Trait, Ideal Force Pass and Throw Ball Away turned ON and CLUTCH set to ON:
  • Tom Brady
  • Aaron Rodgers
  • Matt Ryan
  • Drew Brees
  • Ben Roethlisberger
  • Derek Carr
(Yes Derek Carr, he was the least sacked QB last year).

2. The Sense Pressure traits do a lot more to the QB's abilities than you think it does. Ideal makes them play actually better and gives boost to stats.

3. The mobile QB's that have been in the league a while: Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, Marcus Mariota, Alex Smith, Colin Kaepernick and Tyrod Taylor all should get the Paranoid Sense Pressure Trait. Throw Ball Away needs to be turned OFF. You want them running, not throwing the ball away. Russell Wilson CLUTCH ON, the others turn it OFF.

If you give them Ideal they will play amazing. They're good QB's but we don't want them putting up Aaron Rodgers type numbers. By giving them Paranoid, they will take off running more.

4. The mediocre pocket passing or Balanced QB's: The Andrew Luck's, The Eli Manning's, The Sam Bradford's, etc. should probably get the Conservative Sense Pressure Trait, Throw Ball Away ON, Force Passes set to Conservative. Clutch set to your discretion. Eli Manning clutch is ON. Andrew Luck set it OFF. Bradford OFF, etc.

5. The rookie QB's, Sophmore QB's: Carson Wentz, Jared Goff, Dak Prescott, DeShone Kizer, Mitchell Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, Patrick Mahomes should probably get the Average Sense Pressure Trait, Throw Ball Away OFF, CLUTCH OFF, and Force Passes Aggressive for Rookies and Conservative for Sophmores.

6. Bad QB's: Trigger Happy or Oblivious Sense Pressure Trait, Throw Ball Away OFF, Clutch OFF, and Force Passes Aggressive.

This is not 100% tested yet, but I'm working on it. Let me know your thoughts. It's obviously not going to be a perfect working system as the issues lie within the code with EA but it's a bandaid.
