Lueker and Cobb had traded insults with each other through the first three innings, and the situation climaxed when Lueker called Cobb a "half-******." Cobb, in his discussion of the incident (My Life in Baseball: The True Record, Ty Cobb and Al Stump, Doubleday, 1961, pp. 131–135), avoided such explicit words, but alluded to it by saying the man was "reflecting on my mother's color and morals." Cobb stated in the book that he warned Highlanders manager Harry Wolverton that if something wasn't done about the man, there would be trouble. No action was taken. At the end of the sixth inning, after being challenged by teammates Sam Crawford and Jim Delahanty to do something about it, Cobb climbed into the stands and attacked Lueker, who it turns out was handicapped (he had lost all of one hand and three fingers on his other hand in an industrial accident). When onlookers shouted at Cobb to stop because the man had no hands, Cobb reportedly replied, "I don't care if he has no feet!"[43]

He was a beast.
This is a great story. It was the best thing I've read in a while on a forum.

I said right now currently playing he is the best in all of baseball. For being a contact hitter. And can be argued as in a small group of best of all time.

Never said the numero uno.

Just so we are clear.

I don't know I think Ich is still the best hitter ever. Even over the greats. The game has changed so much with having relief pitchers now. And Ich is just a flat out stud with the bat.

And one could argue the talent difference of back then to now. Advanced scouting to get the best players you can find, performance enhancements, pitch types, etc etc.

Well if we were talking about this time span I would take Ich, and if we were in Cobb time span I would take Ich still. So I guess you have my answer.

That is my point. The competition is more fierce now compared to them. Due to scouting and advanced performance enhancements, etc etc.

YOUR MIND!...you're...out of it!
(I was wondering if someone would bring up the "pitching" crock! )
Forget RP'ers.....look up the 100 best ERA of all time..and if you're a WHIP fan....the top 100 WHIP of all time(you'll probably only recognize 4 names...Rivera,Hoffman, Santana and Pedro.(okay..you'll recognize Seaver)

Enigma...you're right...I thought you said.."he could be argued as THE best ever"...not what you did say.
