Number 42 is retired throughout baseball and on the anniversary of Robinson's first game, few select players wear it (Rivera is allowed to still wear his 42 since he had it prior to its league-wide retirement.) Number 99 is retired throughout hockey. The NBA has not officially retired 23 league-wide.

Oklahoma should retire every number of every starter during their 31 and 47 game NCAA record win streaks but then there wouldn't be many numbers left over so never mind

Re: Official Retired Numbers thread

Someone already got all of State's, so I'll just add this:

I think most of the ACC (except a certain light blue school) is going to retire Marvin Austin's #9 to honor what he and his twitter account finally brought to light at UNC-ch.

These are a case of jerseys being retired not numbers. That is also the case with Mackey's number 88. #44 is the only number retired at Syracuse.

It's more than a few select players. I have seen entire teams wear 42 the past few years on the anniversary.

Mariano Rivera is the only player to wear 42 full time. Every year on Jackie Robinson day all players the number 42 in homage to him for that one day.

Back to NCAA, I believe it has already been said, but Cal retired the late Joe Roth's #12. Thanks for the great thread, it is always good to remember the past greats.

Florida State is retiring Terrell Buckley's #27 on their Home Opener this year.
