Very similar to Edgar Martinez.
Coors Field will likely prevent Walker from ever making it.

Which is too bad because he was extraordinary at Coors (.381/.462/.710 is ridiculous) and still pretty good away from it (.281/.362/.494).

Which is too bad, his park adjusted production was still fantastic.

Coors Field will prove to be lazy narrative enough in this case. The writers always punish big home/road splits (unless Fenway is the home park in question).

Walker doesn't strike me as a guy who did roids. Was he mentioned in the Mitchell report?

I think he was talking about this:

Quote:
When the report that called into question the era in which he starred became public, former Cardinal Larry Walker shared a laugh with a few neighbors.
“Gee, I might go into the Hall of Fame now,” Walker said he joked. “There’s nobody left from when I retired. I’m the only one that year who didn’t get busted.”
...“If I stuck a needle in me, then there was pancake batter in it, not steroids,” Walker joked. He then said: “Do I feel good that I did it clean? My feeling on the steroid thing (is) if it wasn’t banned, then what’s the problem? I think once they started testing, once they banned it from the sport, why don’t they go forward from there instead of digging into the past to see what happened?
“I don’t know what the politically correct thing to say on this topic is,” Walker continued. “That’s just my opinion.”
...That is also Walker’s first year on the ballot.
“I would love to have a vote or two,” said Walker, who played in just 1,988 games in 17 years and retired partially because of a neck injury. “That’s all I would ask for. I don’t think my career is worthy of Cooperstown. I’d love to go back and change the injuries. If I could get rid of the injuries in my career — I wish I could change that. But it’s the way it went.”

Re: 2013 Hall of Fame Ballot Discussion

Thanks, yeah he joked a lot about that and his stance isn't exactly the PC thing to say.

Oh well, when he was good he was DAMN good though I don't think he'll ever live down losing the athlete of the year in Canada to a car. Jacque Villaneuve beat him for the Lou Marsh Trophy in 1997. Luckily the idiots that vote on that award redeemed themselves giving him the trophy in '98.
