Re: NFL Off Topic

I think the expectations for quick quarterback development really picked up steam with the re-working of the rookie wage scale about 10-15 years ago. Suddenly, teams were able to take chances on quarterbacks with a lot of "potential" and move on if the player didn't develop quickly.
Those huge rookie contracts almost forced the teams to stay committed a little bit longer to quarterbacks.

Re: NFL Off Topic

yeah it's not up to HS and college coaches to develop NFL ready players, they're a separate entity

if you want a feeder system to produce NFL ready players then create one, these teams are trying to win games

Re: NFL Off Topic

People talk about drafting and developing QBs like its teaching kids to read or something. QBs cannot all succeed. Winning football games and championships is a zero-sum game. Tua is very good, but he can't win his division because Allen keeps beating his team. Allen is very good, but he can't win the conference because Mahomes keeps beating his team.

Every team has a bunch of guys trying to help their QB succeed. There are 31 other teams each with a bunch of guys trying to make that same QB fail.

Re: NFL Off Topic

What happened to sticking a QB with a clipboard for at least a year? Teams are so eager to win now that they don't allow for development.

You gotta make the most of those cap friendly rookie QB deals before you eventually have to spend big on them.

That tweet has a hint of nostalgia in there too me as if the league has always been blessed with a plethora of quality quarterbacks.

It’s the hardest position in ALL of sports, of course it’s going to be difficult to produce a large amount of high quality players

I mean, I have so many questions about that tweet. Sample size of 19, why from 2021-2022 and not earlier? How many of those picks were high picks? How does that compare to earlier eras? QB rookie scale started in 2011? Ok, then do 2011 to 2021 and compare it to earlier eras. Stop being lazy "NFL Research".

What Green Bay has done with their last couple QB makes me wonder if they know what they’re doing. Developing a great QB once every 10-15 years might be worth forfeiting those first 2-3 years of a rookie contract.

Re: NFL Off Topic

Interesting topic Rich Eisen brought up on his show today that ties in to the QB development topic. If the Panthers somehow still had their first round pick do they ditch Bryce Young after one year for Caleb Williams?
