Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***

From a footballing aspect letting Kante go makes sense considering his injury record but damn does it hurt from an emotional perspective.

Truly one of my favorite Chelsea players ever and one of the best midfielders to ever put on a Chelsea and one of the best to ever grace this league.

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***

For me the sad day will be when Azpi leaves.

I hope he just retires and goes directly into coaching or something, but of course he deserves to go wherever he wants.

Won’t see another player like him for a long time.

I could not agree more.

“The squad is bloated. We need to get rid of at least 7-9 players and reduce the wage bill”.

Gets rid of Kova, Kante, K2, Ziyech, Mendy, Jorgi, RLC, etc…

“We shouldn’t have sold all of our experienced players”

Wellp there it is. This is definitely the saddest I’ve been about a player lol.

Not much to say that I haven’t said a million times already tbh.

He’s one of the most special players that has ever put on a Chelsea shirt. We won’t see another Azpi ever again.

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***

I didn't realize the financial hole Chelsea still has to "make up", even after all the recent departures. They've brought in about 200M, but they spent ~600M last year. I realize they'll bring in more money when the Lukaku deal finally goes through, but the deficit will still be fairly large. Plus, they've gutted their midfield so they still need to sign a player (or two). Going to be interesting to see how things play out at Cobham over the next month or two.

It’s not as simple as:

-600
+250

The transfer fees are spread out over the length of the contract so someone like Mudryk who cost ~60 is really 60/8 OR however Chelsea & Shakhtar split the payment agreement.

In a nutshell, it’s what’s holding up the Caicedo deal. They want either 80mil up front or 25mil a year spread out over 4 years. Arsenal are in sort of the same situation with West Ham for Rice. The amount is agreed, the payment structure is still being worked out.

We’re actually in a good place financially now that we’ve gotten two 300k+/week earners off the books in Kante & Koulibaly with Lukaku expected to leave soon. That leaves Sterling as the only 300+ earner we still have with James right behind at 250k’ish. Enzo and Nkunku are up there too but their contracts are incentive based like a lot of the new signings.

Once we get Auba, Ziyech, CHO, and Sarr off the books that will clear another ~500k/week off the books + get us ~20-30 in return in transfer wages. We’ll also get a new shirt sponsor this year so that’s rumored to be ~30mil since the PL squashed our 50mil/yr deal with Paramount+ since it’s a conflict of interest.

We’re actually very solid financially since Roman cleared all of the debt and Clearlake gutted the bloated squad.
