Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Yeah, I kind of lumped him into the "prime didn't fit neatly into the 80's" group. He was still pretty ****ing awesome the first half of the decade, despite those being his 35-40 years.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Then you need to narrow the focus for every player to their 10 prime seasons in order to come up with any meaningful comparison.

Still doesn't make Morris any better a candidate.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Rice getting elected was a huge mistake, using him as the bar would lead to dozens of more ridiculous inductions. It's probably just better to ignore that he's in and maintain a better standard.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Do you understand the concepts of context, and eras?

Here are some fun with numbers.

Sandberg had 5 seasons where his OPS+ was greater than 130.

Morgan had a career OPS+ over 130.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Here's the problem, your main contention is wrong, very very very wrong. And you won't find an analyst (professional or otherwise) with even a modicum of a clue that would ever agree with it.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

There are things I disagree with, and then there are things that I disagree with.

This is the latter. I find this opinion on Morgan to be completely indefensible in pretty much every conceivable...

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Blame him? No.

Put his numbers into appropriate context for adequate comparison to his peers? Hell ****ing yes.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Beltran, I'd go borderline yes right now, definite yes when he's finally done.

Helton, no.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Huh? If anything it's the advanced metrics that push him into the discussion, not away. Compiling 50 WAR in that small sample of time is a pretty rare accomplishment.

That's not to say he belongs...

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Are you asking if you think it will happen, or if it should happen? I'll list what I think should happen.

1. no
2. hell no
3. hell yes
4. yes
5. yes
6/7. undecided, but would lean toward yes

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Helton's numbers aren't nearly as impressive once ballpark is taken into account. There isn't much separating him from guys like Berkman, Olerud, Delgado, Clark, and McGriff. Excellent players all,...

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Your problem is an over-reliance on select counting stats, while completely ignoring walks and SLG% and not taking any context into consideration.

OPS+

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

I think he comes up a little short. Defense counts too, and he was pretty lousy.

That said, I think he probably ends up getting voted in and I wouldn't be too upset about it.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Yes, and it isn't too difficult to see why once ballpark, position, and defense have been taken into account.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

3B is criminally underrepresented in the Hall, for whatever reason.

Here's a FG's article on Rolen and his future HoF case.

Is Scott Rolen Famous Enough For Cooperstown?...

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Helton is a solid borderline guy.......along with dozens of others. I'd put him in the category of "can't complain if he makes it, but won't complain if he doesn't."

Walker is in the same...
