NBA 2K12 News Post

ESPN has announced the 15 legends in NBA 2K12 and their opposing teams. Both sides should have 10-12 accurate players represented according to the article. Here's the list of players and their opponents in the game:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
86-87 Lakers vs. Celtics

Larry Bird
85-86 Celtics vs Hawks

Julius “Dr. J” Erving
84-85 76ers vs Bucks

Wilt Chamberlain
71-72 Lakers vs Knicks

Patrick Ewing
94-95 Knicks vs Magic

Magic Johnson
90-91 Lakers vs Blazers

Michael Jordan
92-93 Bulls vs Hornets

Karl Malone
97-98 Jazz vs Spurs

Scottie Pippen
95-96 Bulls vs Sonics

Oscar Robertson
70-71 Bucks vs Lakers

Hakeem Olajuwon
93-94 Rockets vs Nuggets

Bill Russell
64-65 Celtics vs Lakers

Jerry West
70-71 Lakers vs Hawks

Isiah Thomas
88-89 Pistons vs. Bulls

John Stockton
97-98 Jazz vs. Lakers

Bonus Teams
1990-91 Warriors and 2001-02 Kings

Chris' Take: Seems to be a lot of a 'been there done that' with several of the guys and teams on the list. BUT, that doesn't mean it's still not cool (for now). Some of the guys are pretty exciting such as Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlin. If the rosters from the opposing teams are spot-on as mentioned in the article, then this mode gets a lot more exciting and that appears to be the case. But really, a lot of the guys from the 90s and late 80s are rehashes of last year's teams on the Jordan Challenge. And it appears you have to play (or I'm sure pay) to unlock the teams in exhibition.

NBA 2K needs all it can to top last year's effort sales wise, I'm highly skeptical it's going to be able to match it with the NBA Lockout and a legends lineup that feels cool but somewhat rehashed as well -- but the mode should be quite cool at least one more year.

Fantastic job 2k. I'm blown away and can't wait to play with all of these teams.

I'm most excited about the Ewing vs Shaq matchup, and the Bulls vs Hornets should be fantastic!

Yessir. I think the opponent's teams to these Legends squads sends this mode into the stratosphere. There's going to be awesome players oozing from this game.

Also, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be more than content for a while with all the lineups mentioned here. But with one eye peering forward, user-created classic teams are going to be intense this year. There's going to be wealth of real players from nearly all eras to choose from. And depending on what accessories are editable, some pre-80's rosters might have a chance of coming together.

I'm glad I'm not the only one pumped up about the inclusion of that '93 Hornets squad. For some reason I pictured people lamenting such a random choice as I read the article. I actually just played as them last night using portlandblazer's '93 roster, semi-coincidentally against the Orlando Magic (though the Penny-less version).

Good to see the Classic Team's rosters are filled a lot more then in 2K11, I won't have to go to great lengths to get rid of filler characters.

This is HUGE. The Pearl and Clyde. My word. And Reed down low. Man oh man. And those old school jerseys. When The Garden had real title hopes. This will be awesome.

you can actually add some of the duplicate teams bc they are from different decades and will have completely different rosters

Hah, yeah, I can't see that happening, especially after just reading about separate incidents where 1) Michael Jordan draped himself with the American flag at the '92 Olympics to cover the Adidas logo on his warm-up jacket 2) Shaquille O'Neal nearly didn't join the '94 Dream Team II squad until it was agreed upon that he'd be served clear water cups on the bench instead of the Coca-Cola endorsed ones (he was a Pepsi guy) and 3) A coach strategically stood in front of Dwight Howard's shoes during the Redeem Team photo-op to shield his Adidas' (the only non-Nike member of the team).

You could but I'm planning and going to add these teams below so every city has their own classic team on top of that list above.

1. 1993 Suns – Barkley/KJfficeffice" />>>
2. 1995 Pacers – Reggie/Mullin>>
3. Clippers – Manning/Harper>>
4. Dallas – Agguire/Blackman/Harper>>
5. Cleveland – Price/Daugherty>>
6. Washington – Unseld/Hayes>>
7. New Jersey – D Coleman/Petrovic>>
8. Miami – Mourning/Hardaway>>
9. Minnesota – Garnett/Smith/Marbury>>

Only question is what to do with teams like Raptors, Memphis, & Ok City? Might have to put 3 duplicates with maybe the 71 Knicks, 65 Celtics, & the 71 Lakers or Bucks? Its just awesome to have this many options!

I still can't believe it. My '98 Spurs after a few modifications I'll have the '99 team to play with. I hope Sean Elliot's in the game since he was injured for most of the '98 season including the playoffs.

But I like everyone else.
Kobe did have an afro 1997-98, it's the previous year, his rookie one, that he had a shaved head.
