NCAA Football 13 News Post

"Transfer failed" errors single-handedly ruined the Online Dynasty mode in NCAA Football 12.

An online dynasty I participated in died in the middle of our second season because the commissioner could not advance the league without getting an error message. Even the online league I ran eventually got stuck in a bowl week and was blocked from advancing by an unremitting "transfer failed" error.

EA Tiburon could not diagnose these errors properly, and as a result, the company was unable solve them for NCAA Football 12.

The development team claims to have corrected last year's Online Dynasty issues for NCAA Football 13.

Additionally, should any future bugs occur, EA Tiburon has added an "incident identification number," which will tell the developers the exact nature of any errors that are occur in-game.

Knowing exactly what's going wrong should allow the NCAA Football team to produce quicker fixes to any future problems that arise.

Do you think online dynasties will indeed be more stable this year?

I honestly believe that this should be expected, not used for excitement.

I'll believe it when I see it. Hopefully, it is improved.

Not only that, but - and keep in mind I love the mode - isn't the percentage of people overall who actually use OD pretty small? Maybe this list is meant to be personal, but this doesn't sound like the kind of thing that will be getting the overall fanbase most excited. That said, it's good that it is fixed (if true).

Oh, well 4 or of 5 ain't bad, lol, but seriously, I personally would consider technical stuff like this outside of the purview of things to be excited for in an upcoming game. I guess, however for people who's primary or even sole gaming experience is online, this would have to be something of great importance to them.

I didn't have any issues in 12 to the degree of most but it was plenty buggy. In no way should this even be something to use as an hype product. Hopefully things will run smoothly this year b/c before 12, I never had an issue

not gonna lie I was hoping #1 would be a revamped teambuilder reveal.

I don't see this as much reason for excitement when previous versions of Online Dynasty seemed to run just fine.

I'm not an online guy, but last year, there were problems up the wazoo. For a lot of folks, the gameplay issues, which weren't that bad, IMO, were made exponentially worse in people's minds, purely because of the online problems.

You look at this game, and a game like NBA 2K12, some people consider that game a complete and total failure, just because of the online issues.

As I said in the other post, I consider this an ancillary issue, but for many people now, it's a core part of their experience, essentially as important as any gameplay issues.

Pretty sure this a OS article and not a EA sports thing but we can dream! I'd love for TeamBuilder to be upgraded.

Also, I know it's not a EA article but jeez. Was the new Passing even mentioned in these? I can't imagine this is even worth mentioning...should be expected and not hyped up. Even on the scale of fixing broken things I'd personally put this behind user option plays being serviceable again (although CPU is another story)

I'm pretty sure he was talking about online dynasty in NCAA 11 and before when he said it was fine in previous versions.

You're right on point about the OD issue skewing people's perception about other issues though. Reading some of the comments around here you'd think the mode has never worked in any edition of the game and it would be a huge surprise if it turns out to work this year.

That being said, I totally understand people's frustration about this issue. I think the term game killer gets thrown around entirely too much but this issue fits the real meaning of the term for anyone who buys this game to play OD.

As a big time OD player (I'm still playing my '12 OD with most of the same guys that started it with me 11 months ago) I agree that this isn't a reason to buy the game. My OD had more than our fair share of transfer failed (TF) issues (including our commish getting robbed of his conference title in year 1 and thusly getting cheated out of a NCG bid) but this is something that should be expected to be fixed without any hoopla. The TF issues are similar to the custom playbook (CPB) bugs in '12. The CPB issues were fixed, but there hasn't been much press about it as it's something that needed to be fixed because it's broken.

The TF and CPB issues are different than the removal of roulette recruiting. With that, they changed the concept to something else (roulette) and a lot (most?) of people didn't like it (I prefer the roulette style). So EA listened to the majority of the consumers and changed it back, which is a good thing and should be commended. I've never been a Negative Nancy, but breaking the game (with TFs and CPB bugs) and then fixing the bug is nothing to be commended, but something that is to be expected.

I just want the old standard create-a-team from like 10 years ago that you could just do in-game. Seriously, how hard would that be to put back in the game.

....

On Topic: Online Dynasty bugs were the main thing that ruined my experience with NCAA last year and I quit playing it in September. This after playing the hell out of '11 from its release all the way up until 12's release.

It is funny to me that the #1 reason to be excited is fixing something that should have never been a problem to start with, but this is great news (provided it comes true). Transfer failed got a couple of my OD's last year and it was flat out frustrating. As the mode I use almost exclusively, this was kind of a buzz kill to lose a handful of OD's to transfer failed. We managed to salvage a couple, either through restart or previous saves, but otherwise it pretty well ruined it.

I just hope whatever the fix was actually works, we were told it was fixed a few times last year and it never happened. Either way, this should never be the #1 reason to be excited for a new game. Maybe #5 and even then it's a stretch. I guess my real hope for this year is that nothing requires significant patching.

It's nice to hear that this is fixed, but I don't play online so this doesn't make me excited. Having updated rosters and schedules makes me more excited than this. C'mon man.

Heh, I try not to be that guy, but nothing like The #1 reason to be excited about a game "You get to pay again to have a working feature that you paid for from the previous year that didn't work correctly." Seriously? I love NCAA, I get it every year, and probably will continue... but lets not even pretend to 1) pass off features carrying over from a previous year that are actually working as a reason to be excited about anything and 2) assume that it actually is going to be working anyway. This does a disservice for actual features that are new and exciting (or it illuminates potentially how few exciting features there are available.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to implement a system that allows us to save the information we are trying to transfer on our local hard drive BEFORE trying to send it to EA. That way, if there is a problem on EAs end, the whole thing isn't f'ed hardcore. We can actually "try again" (which never worked), or try again later. It seems so simple to me.

My OD got A LOT of these errors. We finally pegged a big cause of a lot of our TF's as

1) Someone changing something about the dynasty (messing around in recruiting causing something to upload to EA and change the dynasty file for example) while the commish was advancing. We fixed this by having people back totally out of the dynasty before advancing (since they were going to get kicked out anyway). Eventually we got the brilliant idea of just always advancing online, because that cut out TF's 100%.

2) Users trying to upload different games to the servers at the same time (meaning I play a CPU team and finish and exit, uploading results to the server at the same time another person finishes his game against a CPU team and uploads his results). This would cause TF's to both players. So if two players would finish at the same time, one would wait until the other was totally back at the main franchise screen before exiting his game.

The most frustrating ones were the ones where you would play a game, especially if it was a big game that you played and won at the wire, then the servers would be down as you exited and you'd TF for no reason at all. Again, this is where saving the results before uploading would have been so beneficial.

We also got the dynasty destroying one, but people had figured out the work around by that time.

Meh, I have no interest in online dynasties at all.

I was the same way, but this year my friend and his brother also got the game. I have never loved dynasty/franchise so much.
