NHL 15 News Post

(This post has been promoted to the homepage. Written by NHL 15 Producer, Sean Ramjagsingh)

Thanks for being part of this journey as we head into the launch of NHL 15 on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, the start of a new generation of hockey videogames. We’re incredibly proud of the next-generation gameplay and presentation experience we’ve created for all our fans. From the Next-Generation Hockey Player and True Hockey Physics to the Unrivalled In-Arena Experience and a revolution in Broadcast Presentation, I’m extremely proud of what our team has delivered in one year on new technology. The focus on a new gameplay and presentation engine will not only deliver a great game now, but also give us the foundation to deliver next-generation hockey experiences to you for the years to come.

However, we’re not done. We’re committed to keeping the experience fresh throughout the hockey season, in addition to the roster and ratings updates you’ve always received, the list below contains the free content updates for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 we’re working on and our expected window on when you will see them in the game:

September:

Playoff Mode
Create a custom offline tournament bracket with up to 16 teams from any of the 12 leagues in the game. Play or simulate each game and track player and team stats throughout the tournament.

Be A Pro - Coach Feedback
Get the coach’s feedback while you are on the bench. The coach will give you tips on how to stay on top of your game and grade you on your play.

3 Stars of the Game
At the end of the game, see the three stars and their high level stats. Will apply to every game mode.

Hockey Ultimate Team
Several content updates, including:
• Changed layout and navigation in HUT store
• New animations for player items
• Improved edit lines screen to better identify players that are injured or require contract extensions

October:

Online Team Play
Online multiplayer mode where every player on the ice can be human controlled.

GM Draft
For the first time in the NHL franchise, you will be put on the clock and feel the pressure like real NHL GM’s. You will now only have 3 minutes to make a draft pick. If the pressure is too much, you can also call timeouts to extend the amount of time you have to make a draft pick or potentially negotiate a trade. You can make trades at any time during the draft. The CPU will also propose trades to each other and the user throughout the draft.

------

As always your feedback is fundamental to how we make NHL better and better, so we will also be looking to what you want to see implemented in the game.

Thanks
Sean

I think people had to be patient it was a new console and completely new for the developers and working with xbox1 vs xbox 360 is not the same but I have one idea is playing a season with all 30 teams cause I likec playing a season with ALL 30 teams as well are the arenas going to be fixed with the correct player benches and if banners are on wrong side fixed where they should go and have the linesman seperate the skaters and take them to box and as well players come out there respective sides for example the vistors come thru the zamboni entrance at Rexall Place and for next year should have maybe the sections in crowd like rexall they have the disability sections on the corners of the building in between the lower bowl and 2nd bowl so there's is people with wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs. With the team seemingly playing catchup now after this first release how long might it be before we see some of the legacy issues that have plagued this franchise addressed, if ever? I am of course speaking to the ways that the goalies have largely remained the same since NHL 07, as well as the ways to score goals in the game by both the users and CPU AI players. Not to mention the easy access into the zone on the attack that has become mundane and monotonous over the past half of a decade. Will these situations ever be addressed with how much work there is to do just to get the game up to par with what we had prior?

Furthermore, you have stated that there was only one year of development time to work on NHL 15. Can we, the consumers, inquire as to why that was the case? Was there no foresight allotted to your team in preparation for the upcoming next generation of consoles? Were you not given the development kits ahead of time? And why did you state last year at this time that moving forward without an next gen game on year one of the consoles allowed for your team to work on this sku for a longer period of time? Did the situation change or was it something else?

And finally, with the release of NHL 15 on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 seemingly being very similar to prior versions of the game, what exactly is the priority of the crew in Vancouver? Was the team simply overtaxed and underpowered, thus resulting in the shortcoming of time (as you seemingly indicate)? Or is something going on behind the scenes that we would just not be aware of? I understand that you cannot delve into the inner-workings of your job, but coming from our perspective you must sure see why we might have so many unanswered questions as to why things are now the way they are with our beloved franchise. And does any of the aforementioned points have any relation to the lack of communication from the EA development team to the consumers, or the lack of media and content that was certainly in contrast to prior releases of the game? If not, could you touch on the reasons as to why everything concerning the game has been so heavily shrouded and kept under wraps until so late into the development cycle?

Thank you for your time and openness in any response that you may offer.

-Patrick
On a serious note why are you not answering this guy? Seems like you only take softball questions and ignore anything with real substance. It's sad to see you dance through this kinda thing. You want people to believe you are working hard but then you only have a half of a game if that to show. You don't even try to make it better it seems. Just man up and get into the tough questions and get to work on making it right. You know that if you can't do what you're supposed to do what happens. The #FIRERAMMER is around for a reason, it's because you release half-assed games then hide. I'd bet you wouldn't respond to this either. Tip toe tip toe

In addition to the draft being added to be a GM mode, will our chosen team's AHL affiliate be made fully functional as in previous editions of the game?

Thanks

The fact that 3-star selections is even considered as things we should get excited about just shows you how much this product should never hit the shelves.

Is there any chance of the game being patched to 1080p native on either console?

Hi Rammer ,
Thanks for responding as NHL is the only sports game I buy now and thank Heavens Playoff Mode made it back in so I can buy this game Tuesday as the gameplay is near perfect and the crowds , atmosphere and announcing is gonna be great for years to come !

I like that they are finally giving us some feedback as to what is going on (even if took them months to finally say something). But is anyone else completely underwhelmed by this list? 3 stars, seriously? Where are the AHL stats? Coach feedback? How about the option to sim to your line? Have to wait till October just so we can start an actual Be a GM, yet no mention if there is any fix to the broken AI draft logic that is in the game. If the priorities in this game are 3 stars and a gimmick playoff mode rather than fixing the much more popular Be A GM they have a long way to go before they earn my money.

# 70 StraightEdge @ 09/08/14 01:27 AM
I thought the CPU auto drafts for you anyway. If that's the case, who the hell cares how much time you have to make a draft pick?

These updates do nothing to improve Be A GM, or really anything that we've been asking for. Let us edit players' ratings and equipment or I personally won't be buying it. Simple as that.

Does that mean we'll see it in this year's game or next year's? Saying we'll see it back in the game is incredibly vague.

Rammer,

Thanks for taking time to come on here and answer some questions. I think it says a lot about you and the team at EA. There's a lot of people that are extremely angry at the missing features in NHL 15 and while I'm not happy about some of them, I truly believe that you guys have done everything in your power to bring us the best hockey game you can. I'm not a programmer so I cannot begin to understand the intricacies of making a game, especially an annualized game on a new platform, but I'm sure it's complicated.

It's easy for us, as gamers, to sit back and complain about missing features but I'm sure that it was at all possible you guys would have pushed out a fully featured game with NHL 15. Unfortunately, this is the way it goes for sports games on new consoles it seems. Except for MLB The Show, which is a port just with higher resolution player models and "completely rebuilt stadiums" that look exactly the same from the Playstation 3, minus better resolution.

I'm somewhat disappointed at some of the missing features, but I'm still eager to play the game. I've bought and played every EA hockey game since NHLPA 93 on the Sega Genesis and I'm very much so looking forward to playing NHL 15 on the Playstation 4 on Tuesday.

Lastly, I think that some of you guys that are completely bashing EA and calling them money-hungry are a bit misguided. Sure it's a corporation that is out to make a profit but if anyone thinks that they want to put out a cheap product and charge as much as possible for it, you're wrong. And for the people that are taking shots at Rammer himself, really? I'm sure he's paid a handsome salary for what he does but I guarantee he wants to make the best hockey game possible, as does everyone on their team. In the end I'm going to guess Rammer cares a lot more about how good the game is as opposed to how much money EA Sports makes.

Keep doing your thing Rammer, and thanks for stopping by.

What about that new Stanley Cup celebration? Whatever happened with that?

Also hope the commentary adds on intensity if possible later on, in the demo it was just missing that and player models seemed big. And skill stick seemed like it got taken away of a lot of the stuff it's had. Ice and Arena's look amazing. But the graphic upgrade wasn't that big of a jump as one would hope since last gen the graphics were amazing imo.

Saw that the game is around apparently 23 gb so that would explain it.

Anyways hope it didn't sound like I hated on too much, just disappointed honestly this has been the bright spot of EA besides FIFA.
Wow, such a ... weird... comment. You know why the modes aren't in at launch? Appearantly the NHL team is short of man power. It would be another story if the content wasn't free. But they patch it later because they didn't have enough time.

I find this a great job by them!

Don't know if this has been fixed or not for the full release so excuse me if it has.

When trying to change faceoff formations during BAP, it's tied to the X Button which is the same button that skips replays making it almost impossible to get the formation you want. Any word on fixing that in a future patch?

It's a small issue, but bothersome nonetheless.

It appears to be fixed in the final version.

Getting the pregame settings for your team's formations and aggressiveness and such to stick in-game, that may be a different story.

On an aside, I guess this is yet another time I will be dodged by Sean. I apologize if I pose questions of actual sustenance and that are not so-called softballs. I guess I should apologize if I scared him away from answering any of the other stuff in here, but it appears that it wasn't the case as he just skipped over my stuff, again, and cherry picked off the top.

That is fine, your PR game will work on several people here, but I know a very large group of players (some with NHL shields on their collars) that rely on my impressions and inside knowledge about the NHL series. There will come a time where you will have to take accountability for the products you have released and if that isn't with your words then it will be in other ways, I am sure of it.

Good luck with NHL 15 and your traveling medicine stand sales show. Let me know when you've managed to repair 8 years of game modes that have gone missing to the point where they are functioning at a higher working level than what has been seen so far and perhaps we can talk then, I suppose.

This is the most spin I have seen in a non election year in quite some time. I guess there is a reason people do not trust politicians though.

Provide a link proving they are short on man power. They were not short on time they took a year off from this gen to work on NHL 15, at least that's what they told us last year. Every other sports game was able to offer a full featured game with a shorter dev cycle.

Hi, few very simple questions I haven't seen an answer yet.

- What happened to the new Stanley Cup celebration? Be honest please, in multiple interviews and articles you have publicly stated that we have a brand new Stanley Cup scene. And the end-result?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8d_v7d4vPA

Exatcly same as NHL 14.

- Second question, why, and why on earth can we not have a detailed simulation in BeAGM where you can see who scores, who shoots, who hits, who gets a penalty, time of period it happens, etc etc etc.. basically the exact same simulation we been having for long long time?

So question is, is detailed simulation of Be-A-GM coming back or not?

And please be honest with your answers, I can tell that noone likes a 'Erhmm.. I don't know!'' developer of a game.. Simple yes, or no - answers are what we need.
