Just how secure is your Xbox LIVE account!?

Ok so I have been meaning to finish this blog for a long time, work and life in general caused the delay lol... however this whole issue lasted a lot longer than I anticipated as well. I'll try and make this as short and to the point as possible.*

First a little background... I started on Xbox LIVE in its first beta phase sometime in 2002 I believe. Since I was in right from the get go I was able to acquire the GT: HULK (nickname from friends of mine). For years, for whatever reason I was constantly offered money and various other items to sell the name. A lot of you guys who know me on OS and Twitter have seen me post updates regarding this issue over the past year. Anyway I guess people liked it.*

Fast forward to January 2010, my account got hacked some how. Never gave out my info or anything, regardless it happened. It took MS about 2 weeks to get it back to me. All was well for a while... Fast forward 6 months later in June, my account got hacked again. Now there is more to this story but this blog is about my dealings with MS and how they handled it. It took repeated calls going back and forth, trying to get this escalated, talking with rep after rep. It took these guys months trying to figure out what happened and how it could be resolved. They told me a few times I must have given my info out... No I didn't.*

Regardless I just wanted my account back. I tried everything... Contacted @majornelson and @stepto through twitter. Major Nelson had no answers and Stepto (Xbox LIVE security head honcho) never even bothered to respond. Again to make a long story short, months later .... 321 days to be exact MS finally calls me with a resolution. First they tell me my account has been corrupted and they cannot get it back. We are talking 8 years worth of achievements and purchases ect... Next they tell me they will give me 2 yrs of Xbox LIVE and 9K in MS points. Then they tell me they can't get my HULK name back... At least not for another few months. **

Now I just find it hard to believe MS can't retrieve any of this info... They built the system for gods sake. It's frustrating, annoying, and I'm tired of dealing with it to be honest. So at this point I'm still waiting to see if I can at least get my original gamertag back.*

ya that's pretty messed up. I have a cousin and some friends who have lost 10,000 or so gamer points once signing on with Live but nothing that bad. I think it's funny they couldn't just reset the tag name and give it back to you? If I could I'd give you some of my achievement points cause I don't care too much about them

rather people not know how much of a game goob I am. I hope they fix this for you.

Yeah you would think they could just reset the gamertag, but they told me it has to "expire" first...is this software or milk lol?! Its not even the points that bother me, at this point its more of the principle in how they handled it...

i had my xbox account hack in april this yr. and it took them three weeks the straighten everything out

Ok a small update ...this incident actually was a smaller piece of a very large picture. This was actually a big hacking ring.....and they all got nabbed by the secret service lol. This just gets crazier by the day lol. Apparently the secret service got these guys ...well i should actually say kids because they were all juveniles. And yes even the SPECIFIC one that got my account. Full confession and everything. I hopefully will be getting my original GT back sometime in the near future but my account is probably lost forever. I still have to go through the process of pressing charges ect... but in the end I would go to the end of the earth for this prick just on principle. And ill do it with a ****ing smile on my face. LOL
