Raiders Franchise
Posted on February 23, 2009 at 12:23 AM.
I recently decided to start a franchise with the Oakland Raiders in NFL 2K5. I am using the default rosters on Legend difficulty with the sliders as is.I figured it would be fun to change it up a little and not use a modern roster.
My Quarter length is 6 minutes and sim games are set up for the same time. Preseason is on, trade deadline is on, weekly prep is on, and I am manually handling all signing and drafting of players.

I used the preseason as an assesment on who my team was and what moves needed to be made. I know that I will not struggle at reciever at all with Rice, Brown, and Porter(at least not until next season, Rice and Brown may retire) My real Question coming into the season was:
1. Who was I going to choose as my starting QB. (Gannon or Collins)
2. Do I need to pick up a power runner ro give me a 1 2 punch with the speed of Wheatly
3. Is my secondary going to be able to stop anyone.

I finished the preseason as 2-2 and I believe came to a conclusion to my 3 questions.
1. I am going to choose Collins over Gannon. Gannon is just not mobile enough for the line I have.
2. Yes I need a power runner.
3. Maby?

My first action as GM was to terminate the contract of Troy Hambrick. I feel that he was worthless and taking up a roster spot. Then I signed FS Jason Sehorn to a 1 year $930k contract, and Shannon Sharpe to a 1 year $540k contract. Then I decided to make two huge trades happen. First I sent Sehorn and a 3rd round draft pick to the Falcons for T.J. Duckett, the Rich Gannon to the Skins for Tim Hasselbeck.
Duckett adds much needed power ro my running game while I develop Fargas and getting rid of Gannon frees up $3 million next year and $21 million over the next six years. Hasselbeck is not very good but he is cheap. I only pay him $262k this year and $1 million over a 4 year span. Tim will be my third QB behing Tuiasospo.

Hopefully these roster moves will help me to resign Charles Woodson, Sebastian Janikowskiand Dwayne Rudd who are all Fa's at the end of the season and make a spash by signing a FA or 2.

In the preseason my secondary showed shades of genious and allso proved they were sucseptible to the big play unfortunately. For my CB's Woodson for sure leads the pack. He is a excellent play maker and shut down corner. The other cb spot is where trouble arises. I have to choose between Phillip Buchanon and Nnamdi Asomugha as to who will start and who will play nickel. I made the decision to start Buchanon because of his uncanny ability to swat the ball away during the preason. Asomugha will be my nickel and I will put much effort into building his game.
My FS and SS play is what really worries me. The only player that is really a play maker is Rod Woodson and he is past his prime. Woodson is my starting FS and Derrick Gibson is my starting SS. I am just going to try and devlop the talent I have and either draft of sign a FA at seasons end.

I am very satisfied with the play of my Dedensive line and linebackers. I run a 3-4 that has the tremendous front line of Warren Sapp and Ted Washington and the outstandind linebacker play of Dwayne Rudd.

Well I believe I have done everything in my power to get this team back into playoff contention. All has been down hill since the Super Bowl loss to Tampa. The Roster has been set and the push for the "Big Game' is about to begin.
"A Commitment to Excellence"

First up on the road to the Super Bowl is the heated rival Pittsburgh Steelers.

Nice write-up. Are you playing on Xbox or PS2? I've been considering finding a PS2 copy of 2k5 and starting up a Giants franchise with default rosters.
