Differences between 2k8 and Madden 10

As TJdaSportsGuy reccomended, I will simply repost the original thread here.

Things you can do in Madden, but not 2k8.

1. Obviously, you can play with the real teams and the real players. This is easily the biggest reason why people play madden, instead of an alternative.

2. Franchise Mode. This ones pretty self explanatory. Madden has a franchise mode, and 2k8 doesnt. Simple as that.

3. Dynamic player creator and editor. 2k8's player editer is limited to creating players only, and you still cant do much with them.
Madden, on the other hand, one can edit and create players to his hearts content. Nearly anything is possible.

That about does it for madden, so lets now look at 2k8.

1. The ability to adjust the loft on a pass.
Everyone who will be reading this will have played Madden at some point. So, they know what I'm talking about when I say Madden only has 2 types of passes.
You have a full bullet pass, about 6-10 feet of the ground. Then, you have the lob pass that goes up at a 70 degree angle.A lob is completely worthless except for fast receivers on streak routes. Bullet passes of often intercepted by linebackers because of its low trajectory.

Now, let us talk about 2k8's passing. It is possible to adjust the amount of loft by how long you hold down the pass button. You can use this to hit a receiver in the gap of coverage between linebacker and safety. This is a common occurence in the NFL, but when is the last time you saw it in Madden?

2. Offensive blocking.

Not only is the offensive line play functional, it also of advanced manovures (The spelling is no doubt wrong, forgive me.) The blocking for both passing and running plays appears to work very well, almost always being where they are supposed to be. Youre lucky if you can have all your offensive line doing the right thing in just one play in Madden. The offensive line blocks approprately depends on the play called. Pass blocking forms a steady pocket, approprately placed based on the qb's dropback. Linemen are much more aggressive on running plays, and push hard and fast to open up holes.

The offensive line is capable of adjusting their position on the field during to play to set up special runs i.e. Counters, sweeps, etc.

3. Difference between Good and Great.

Picture Adrian Peterson and Willie Parker. Both's running styles and skill set are remotely similar. Yet, one is obviously better than the other. However, in madden, sometimes it seems to make very little difference.

Ok, now, picture Curt Warner and Emmit Smith. One is obviously dominant to the other. When it comes to a game, it definitely shows. Emmit may be able to shred the a defense that may completely stuff Curt Warner. This simply due to the fact that Emmit Smith is much better than Curt Warner.

4. True wr and db interaction.

When was the last time you saw both receiver and defender both jump for the interception in Madden? Chances are, its been a while. As we all know, awareness for either receiver or corner is entirely irrevelevent. For a corner, the only stat with looking at is their speed, the higher the better. Wide receivers cannot jump to catch a ball, except for the dreaded rocket catch.

However, 2k8 tells a different story. Smart receivers will beat out dumb corners, if are they are slower. Both receiver and db will go up for high balls. Receivers can and will go up high for passes when required, however, that makes the receiver more vulnerable to a big hit. Also, players willingness and skill at jumping for the catch are truly measured by their ratings.

You will see defenders thrown of their coverage consistently if they are overmatched. A corners speed will mean zilch if he doesnt play smart.

Now, that all I have to argue as of this point. I may come up with more later, but for now, this is it.

Notice how I did not compare madden to 2k5. There are a couple of reasons for that. However, it is mostly because 2k8 is a considerably improved version of 2k5. The other reason is, while 2k5 was a good game, it still had many flaws.

Agree with this post. Madden 10 is finally getting as good if not better than 2k8 in there gameplay. The new QB play, actual QB pockets, and pro-tak are fantastic additions. Yet it still is not quite there with the offensive line awareness. The offensive line in the running game is pretty bad while in the passing game it has improved tremendously. The WR/DB interaction is probably better than 2k8 because im pretty sure there was some problem with the coverage in 2k8 (cant remember but i think there was a glaring weakness) but many controllers have been broken when your CB or WR doesnt attempt to make a play on the ball.

Overall, 2k8 doesnt have the NFL teams, customization, and franchise mode so it cant compete and the gameplay is now about even. I absolutely hate Madden 09 but have a feeling that I will love 10 because of the new passing style which I love.

RayAellen20. In regards to your comments on 2k8's wr-db interaction, I'm kind of confused. You pointed out a glaring weakness in the system, however, I have yet to see this. I tend to play a good 4-6 games a week, yet there hasnt been anything Ive noticed. However, if someone else has more details about this, It would be good to know. Also, thanks for posting.
