The Great EA Sports Hype Train vent
Posted on June 26, 2012 at 05:57 PM.
I have never understood how EA Sports gets away with removing features from their sports games and reintroducing them as if they are something we have never seen before in a game.

For example, in the "new" NCAA Football 13, one of the things being touted is a 3, 5, and 7 step drop by the QB. I'm sorry this is something that should be standard in football games....Madden is now introducing the "Infinity Engine"...before that it was Madden 11 "locomotion" in Madden 10 it was "pro-tak"....Does EA have any type of respect for it's audiences' intelligence? Why are people super excited about scrolling scores along the bottom? That was in NFL 2K5 many years ago and other sports games...including EA's own FIFA World Cup 2010 if I am not mistaken...

I could go on and on about these new "features" such as Heisman Challenge....road to glory with created legends anyone? 400+new catch animations...yet we see from demos and E3 videos that the games play just about the same as their predecessors.

Then we have a bunch of people on OS who come out and defend Madden/NCAA at all costs, humming EA's favorite theme "next year" Why not just call a spade a spade and be truthful...the game hasn't advanced that much this "next-gen" due to a lack of trying. In both football games and basketball games for EA we saw a total lack of true innovation and the player movement is still ice skating and invisible force fields. We also have to look at OL/DL interactions and WR/DB issues as well.

All I am saying is that every year around this time everybody starts getting crazy behind a few supposed additions and then a week or so after the game comes out, people are back complaining again. I really wish people would speak with their wallets and make EA actually create a GREAT sports game which they have proven they are capable of on last gen.

If you haven't already please don't fall for the hype...demand a better game with better standards.

And for those who are so amazed by Madden 13's infinity engine (which we have yet to see in full action), go watch or play All-Pro 2K8 (NFL 2K5 or Madden 06 last gen or NCAA Football last gen)....tell me you aren't impressed.

Until then here's to EA's Great hype train! #AllABOARD!

I agree with your post. The lack of improvements and inovation mind boggles me. when you take a step back and look at the overall product, NCAA is well below standard.

We should have every shoe, equipment, hair; the crowd, band, field dept, weather, player models and animations by now. All these things can be approved on and should have been redone by now. A whole console cycle full of disappointments.

But like most here, we buy and play anyway.

good read and im just gona give madden 13 a rent to keep EA from getting another sale.if we all just boycott the game they'll be forced to make it better or shut it down

I at least want them to be forced to make it better

I canceled my pre-orders for both. As much as I enjoy football, playing NCAA or Madden is not as much fun as NBA 2k or MLB the Show so why waste my time.

I'm just going to wait and see what happens after people play the game. I know last week at Community Day Sim and Smitty were impressed by Madden 13 and they said Madden 12 was a 4/10. I personally don't believe the Infinity Engine will end up being hype but rather a foundation for future Madden games and the next gen console Madden's. I've seen a lot of E3 videos and have seen some impressive things from the Infinity Engine and it's still being tuned and tweaked and has improved since E3 according to those who have played it recently that also played at E3. Like I said I'm waiting until I have played the game to get excited or disappointed. I think that's the best way to approach these kind of things. On the Madden side of things I like what I'm hearing from the new development members and just have to see if they back it up or not.

As far as NCAA goes, I felt like the gameplay improvements there are also in Madden and other than Studio Updates(Good idea, needs to be developed further) that there wasn't much innovative about NCAA this year. NCAA needs College GameDay, Infinity Engine, and some of the core gameplay improvements we've been wanting for a while, in the game next year and then we would have a decent game of college football. I'm going to check NCAA out next week with Season Ticket, but other than that I don't plan on buying it. I'll be doing the same with Madden, but plan on getting it at midnight unless I don't enjoy it in my time with Season Ticket.
