What We Learned:
At the QB postion, there was never a chance of Eli losing his job. However, UDFA Rookie Brendon Kay made a strong case to be a viable option for the future. While Ryan Nassib was taken in the draft just over a year ago, it seemed like he has regressed. Kay, with nothing to lose came out slinging. He also has the ability to move on his feet. A bold prediction but only one QB of the 2, Kay or Nassib will be on the roster in a year.
The signing of Rashad Jennings led many to believe he was the starter going into the season. Coach Colt Brennan thought otherwise. He gave everyone the opportunity to win the job. It was just confirmed, Rashad will stay the #1. David Wilson and UDFA rookie Charles Sims drew the biggest competition for the #2 spot. Preseason totals, Wilson 70yds on 12 carries 5.8yac 0TD. Sims 217yds on 24 carries 9yac 2TDs. Sims was named the #2 and you can expect to see a lot of him this season. Depending on how the regular season goes, I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting before its all over. What a gem
Defensively, run stopping was the mindset behind training camp. This Giants team ate up opposing RB's. We have depth at every position. The MVP of camp was surprisingly Quinton Demps. He finished with 22 tackles! My player to watch, Cooper Taylor didn't play as well as I hoped. He didn't play bad by any stretch, 6 tackles 6 deflections and 1int, but I am very high on him and expect him to have a major role on this team in the future. He has to play better than the average.
Next up, Monday Night Football vs The Detroit Lions!
