Rockies Announce Depth Chart; Lineups, and Rotation

Denver,Colorado-Spring Training has come to an end, and that means teams have to make the tough decision of who stays, and who gets to be called up. Colorado GM Archie Wagner made that decision earlier this morning. Look below for info on Depth Chart, Lineups, and Rotation.

Depth Chart

Pitching Evaluation: This is the biggest hole on this year's team. They have nobody above a 77 overall in the pen or in the starting rotation. No lead is safe here, so look for the bats to do most of the work in wins. Axford has been demoted from the closer role, and Betancourt will be their for now. Look for the Rockies to make a few trades to improve the staff.

Lineup vs RHP
Charlie Blackmon CF
Carlos Gonzalez RF
Troy Tulowitzki SS
Justin Morneau 1B
Nolan Arenado 3B
Corey Dickerson LF
Nick Hundley C
D.J. LeMahieu 2B
Pitcher

Lineup vs LHP
Drew Stubbs CF
Carlos Gonzalez RF
Troy Tulowitzki SS
Wilin Rosario 1B
Nolan Arenado 3B
Corey Dickerson LF
Nick Hundley C
D.J. LeMahieu 2B
Pitcher

Hitting Evaluation: The bats are going to need to carry the team this year. Troy Tulowitzki will be the main man, with a side kick in Carlos Gonzalez. They don't have a lot of power, so that will be a thing the team will need to look for in a trade. Hopefully they do enough to counter balance the team's bad pitching.

Brewers take opening day

Series 1
@

(Tulowitzki singles down the line for 2 RBI)

Milwaukee,WI - The Brewers and the Rockies kicked off the MLB season on Monday night. It wasn't the start that Colorado hoped for, but it was the one they deserved after pitching the way Tyler Matzek did.

Matzek couldn't find his spots early, and he was chased after 3.2 innings. The bullpen was not much better after Christian Fredrich gave up 4 earned runs in 2.1 innings of work. Adam Ottavio was good however going 2 innings and not giving up any hits.

Troy Tulowitzki was the only player to drive in an RBI for Colorado. He did this on a bases clearing double down the left field line.

Adam Lind went 4-5 on the day leading the Brewers, and he also drove in an RBI. Scooter Gennett also did a nice job going 2-4, with a walk.

Kyle Lohse had nothing to worry about after the 4th inning as his team was up 8-2. This didn't affect him however as he went 8 strong innings, and only allowed 5 hits.

Box Score

Pitchers Corner - Rockies
Tyler Matzek (0-1) - 3.2 Innings Pitched, 9 Hits, 5 ER, and 3 SO
Christian Fredrich - 2.1 Innings Pitched, 5 Hits, 4 ER, 6 SO
Adam Ottavino - 2 Innings Pitched, 0 Hits, 1 Walk, 2 SO

Pitchers Corner - Brewers
Kyle Lohse (1-0) - 8 Innings Pitched, 5 Hits, 2 ER, 1 Walk, 3 SO
Jonathon Broxton - 1 Inning Pitched, 0 Hits, 2 SO

Player of the Game - Adam Lind
Game Note - Justin Morneau hit his 1,5000 career hit

Colorado's bats come alive, win 13-3

Game 2
Milwaukee,WI - In Game 2 Colorado knew they had to win so they had a chance at winning the series, and they did just that winning 13-3.

Corey Dickerson led the offense going for 5 RBI's and hitting a ball over the fence. Catcher Nick Hundley also decided to join the fun hitting a grand slam in the top of the 5th inning to blow the game wide open. Hundley also hit a double in today's game. The only position player to not record a hit in today's game was Justin Morneau.

Kyle Kendrick (1-0) pitched a great game going for 8 quality innings while only allowing 7 hits. He also had his off speed pitches working today when he struck out 5. LaTroy Hawkins mopped up in one inning of work while striking out 2.

Scooter Gennett stayed hot for the Brew Crew hitting a 2 run homer. Carlos Gomez also hit a solo shot.

Player of the Game - Corey Dickerson

Rockies take game 3, win series
Game 3
Milwaukee,WI - Game 3 was the rubber match between the Brewers and the Rockies. It wasn't much of a game however, as Colorado won 8-1.

It was another game that featured the hot bat's of Colorado, and bad pitching of Milwaukee. Yesterday 1st basemen Justin Morneau didn't record a base hit, but in today's game he recorded 2, and sent one over the fence for a 3 run home run. Charlie Blackmon also hit a 2 run home run in the victory.

The real reason they won was pitcher Jordan Lyles (1-0). Lyles went a full 9 innings, and only allowed 1 earned run. He also fanned 8 during the span of the contest.

Brewers pitcher Wily Peralta was not so good on the other hand. Peralta went 5 innings, and allowed 5 runs. He also got knocked around allowing 7 hits.

Ryan Braun drove in the lone run for the Brewers on an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning, but that was the end of the scoring for Milwaukee.

Corey Dickerson hits clutch RBI's

Series 2
@
Denver,CO-The Rockies had their home opener with a sellout crowd--probably the only one of the hole entire season, and the game did not disappoint. Corey Dickerson walked up to the plate with his team down by 1 in the bottom of the 8th, but that all changed when he smashed a 3 run homer down the left field line, putting them up by one, and winning the game in the top half of the inning.

Troy Tulowitzki and Nolan Arenado also hit solo shots in the game. For the Cubs, up and coming Kris Bryant hit a solo shot, which was his first of his young career.

Gus Schlosser pitched a great game going 7 and 2 thirds, before being pulled. He only allowed 3 hits, and 2 earned runs while walking one. Rex Brothers (1-0) got credit for the win, and he recorded one out, while allowing 3 hits. Rafeal Betancourt (S,1) closed the door allowing 2 hits, and striking out one.

Travis Wood also pitched a fantastic game going 7 strong innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs while fanning 8. Justin Grimm (0-1) took the loss after allowing an 8th inning home run.
