What can Brown do for you? (CH2k8)

3-28-11 - Providence, RI

After 3 disappointing seasons under Jesse Agel where Brown never reached past 11 wins in a season (31-56 in the 3 year span), Brown thought it was time for a new coaching change.

After 3 solid weeks of interviews, Brown has decided on Colby Rogers, 38, who previously was the 17U head coach for the Rhode Island Hawks. Rogers has helped many players realize their goal and go to college to play basketball.

Among those were Billy Baron, Rhode Island; Nick Pendergast, Temple; Rod Odom, Vanderbilt ; Tyler Olander; UCONN ; and even current Brown big man, Andrew McCarthy (JR).

"I am extremely excited for the oppurtunity to coach at this amazing school" said Rogers, "I cannot wait to come in turn this program around."

Brown has not had a winning season since the 07-08 campaign where they lost in the first round of the CBI to Ohio. That season, the Bears won 10 out of their last 12 games.

SG#1 Christian Gore (64) Fr#14 Matt Sullivan (62) Jr
SF#25 Taylor Wright (63) Fr #2 Josh Biber (60) So
PF#33 Turner Halpern (65) Jr#50 Jon Schmidt (62) Fr#3 Dockery Walker (63) So
C#35 Andrew McCarthy (64) Jr#55 Robert Maia (60) Fr

"This team is a very interesting team that I've inherited. Almost everyone is a decent shooter and they are very smart. We have smart passers at every position and our 4s are fairly quick. We do have a lot of work to do on the defensive end though" said coach Rogers, "We will run a Princeton offense and run a lot of defenses that work to our advantage. Do not surprised to see us play strong in a lot of tough games."

Starters:

#11 Joe Sharkey - PG - Fr - 6'1 181 lbs:
Strengths: Decent shooter, solid passer, good defender, fairly quick
Weaknesses: Terrible ball-handler, Not strong at all
Overall: Very average player. Does about everything

#1 Christian Gore - SG - Fr - 6'2 195 lbs:
Strengths: Decent shooter, good passer for a 2, average defender, Good at attacking the basket
Weaknesses: Not athletic, bad ball-handler
Overall: He's a smart player who will fit in Rogers' system

#25 Taylor Wright - SF/SG - Fr - 6'5 180 lbs:
Strengths: Quick, Smart, Average shooter, Best slasher on the team
Weaknesses: not a great defender, Not strong for a 3, terrible rebounder
Overall: He will get a lot of oppurtunities to do what he does best

#33 Turner Halpern - PF - Jr - 6'8 218 lbs:
Strengths: Best shooter on the team, very good passer for a 4, athletic for and Ivy League power forward
Weaknesses: Not a good defender
Overall: He is the best player and most experianced. Look for coach Rogers to lean on Halpern during the season

#35 Andrew McCarthy - C - Jr - 6'8 215 lbs:
Strengths: Great passer for big man, good mid-range game
Weaknesses: Bad post defender
Overall: He is a very smart player. Look for the offense to go through him. It also helps that he had already played for Rogers.

Off the bench:

#22 Sean McGonigil - PG/SG - So - 6'1 198 lbs:
Strengths: Good shooter, decent passer
Weaknesses: Terrible ball-handler, not athletic

Overall: He is the definiton of Average Player

#14 Matt Sullivan - SG - Jr - 6'4 210 lbs:
Strengths: Good Shooter, Solud Passer
Weaknesses: TERRIBLE DEFENDER, TERRIBLE ATHLETE
Overall: He can shoot.. That's it

#50 Jon Schmidt - PF - Fr - 6'7 208 lbs:
Strengths: Smart Player, can pass and good ball-handler for a 4, Quick
Weaknesses: Not a good post defender
Overall: He will get solid minutes off of the bench

#55 Rafael Maia - C - Fr - 6'9 215 lbs:
Strengths: Great Passer, athletic for post player
Weaknesses: Bad Post Defender
Overall: He is a very smart player and will also fit right into Rogers' system

#2 Josh Biber - SF - So - 6'5 185 lbs:
Strengths: Decent shooter, Solid passer
Weakness: AWFUL DEFENDER
Overall: He is a good offensive player and will get minutes

#5 Tyler Ponticelli - SF - Jr - 6'7 225 lbs: Good Defender.. That's about it. He won't play much this season.

OVERALL: This is a young team with no seniors. They are all mostly good passers and can shoot. 3 Freshmen will get the starting nod at the beginning. Let's see how Coach Rogers can do his first season in College.

With Brown, probably. Maybe not this tough every year, but I'll schedule it tough with Brown. The main thing is since there is no conference tournament in the IVY League, I need all the competition I can get before the conference season starts. The non-conference is truly a preseason for me.
