BROWN KEEPS IT CLOSE TO THE BUZZER
12-3-11 - Cincinnati, OH: Coming off of a blowout win over UC Davis 2 days earlier, Brown played a tough Xavier team for 40 minutes losing 69-66.
"Xavier's record doesn't show it, but they are a very good team and they will go far in the tournament" said Rogers, "I was really proud of the way my guys fought tonight even though we got the lost."
Even though Taylor Wright played with a bad ankle, he still managed to get a team high 12 points, including a clutch 3 late in the game to keep the Bears alive.
"It was just one of those things you just have to play through" said Wright, "Yeah my ankle really hurts, but I was not about to just sit on the bench all night long."
Another thing Brown did really well of was getting to the free throw line early and often.
"One big reason we were able to hang in there was because of free throws. We shot 28 free throws tonight and without that, it would have been a blowout most likely" said Rogers.
All in all, Brown once again played strong against a team where no one believed they were capable. Watch out Harvard, you may have some competition come conference play.

Kind of a fluke game.. Xavier missed a ton of open shots and bailed me out a lot of dumb shots by my guys.

Re: What can Brown do for you? (CH2k8)
I was tied with Columbia for the Ivy League lead at 11-3 in conference play at the season's end. I won both head-to-head meetings versus Columbia. However, Columbia had a better record than I did (they had won 20 games while I won 18, I believe).
In real life, we would have had a one-game playoff to determine the Ivy League Title (as happened in real life last season), but instead the game gives the title to Columbia, presumably due to them having a better overall record.
Not to worry, though, because I never failed to win an Ivy League Title for the rest of my time there.Comment

Haha I felt like fighting someone after losing another close one like that..
Yes. I am still incensed over that, LOL.

COLEMAN GETS 24 IN WIN OVER BROWN
12-9-11 - Providence, RI: Today's game featured two teams who are not just in the same state, but the same city. This cross-town battle did not disappoint as Providence escaped with a 79-70 win over Brown.
"It was another game where we hung with our opponent for most of the game but could not pull off the upset" said Rogers, "We knew coming into the game that they were a defensive minded team, but it was their offense that we struggled with."
Providence hit a season-high 56% of their shots and 44% of their 3 pointers.
"It's tough when you exploit one weakness of a team and they come back with something else to hit you in the mouth with" said Halpern, "Personally, I was able to score at a high percentage but as a team we struggled on the defensive end."
Not only did Providence score at a high rate, but they held Brown to 3 free throws. Brown, however, did shoot 67 shots but only hit 30.
"Our biggest struggle was that we settled for too many shots. You can't shoot 28 threes and expect to win a game to a good defensive team like Providence" said Rogers.

EARLY SIGNING PERIOD ENDS
12-10-11 - Providence, RI: It is the end of the early signing period and Colby Rogers has yet to hand out his lone scholarship.
Assistant coach, Leemire Hipsher (who I hired mainly for his name), was able to comment about recruiting before the Providence game, "We are looking at a multitude of players right now and we are not prepared at the moment to handing out our only scholarship."
Here is how the recruiting is shaping up in the Ivy League so far.
Top Recruiting Classes - 2011-12 RK TEAM 5 4 3 2 1 TOTAL 1 Penn 0 0 1 3 0 4 2 Dartmouth 0 0 1 0 0 1 3 Yale 0 0 1 (JC) 0 0 1 4 Columbia 0 0 0 1 0 1 5 Harvard 0 0 0 1 0 1 6 Cornell 0 0 0 1 0 1
In just the early signing period, Penn was able to scoop up 4 recruits including 6'2 guard, Dominic Pasco (#154 3*). Dartmouth got power forward Latece Krymski (#256 3*) and Yale signed junior college freshman, Richie Worthington, a 6'1 3* guard. Brown and Princeton were the only 2 teams in the Ivy League not to sign anyone.
On a national level the ACC had 5 5* recruits sign, the Big East had 4 5* sign, and the Pac-10 had 3 5* sign. Ohio St. was the only team to sign a 5* Juco (Fr).
Here is the scoop for the top recruits in the nation and where they are headed.

Honestly, this is my favorite time of the year to recruit because you can start figuring out which players you really have a shot at getting and which players are worthless to recruit. I love this game!!“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”Comment

BROWN JUMPS OUT TO EARLY LEAD, NEVER LOOKS BACK
12-13-11 - Providence, RI: In the first 10 minutes of the game, Brown jumped out to an early lead and from there, they did not let Monmouth back in the game.
"We were the aggressors for the first few minutes of the game and from there we never let Monmouth regain control" said Rogers, "After we cooled down, Monmouth was a very tough team to stop."
Joe Sharkey, freshman point guard for Brown, was the leading scorer for the Bears shooting a perfect 4-4 from the field.
"Yeah I got a lot of good looks today. Our guys did a great job of passing the ball and I would not have gotten as many looks if it wasn't for them" said Sharkey.
On the defensive end, Brown did a solid job of not letting Monmouth get good looks from 3.
"Our perimeter defense today was good about not letting them get going behind the line. With that being said, Monmouth could not be stopped from mid-range and in the paint. Our defense was less than perfect tonight" stated Rogers, "It also did not help that Monmouth got 10 offensive rebounds tonight. I told my guys after the game that our rebounding effort tonight better not turn into a habit."
