Vanderbilt left the SEC to escape shadows cast by other schools. They played mostly a cupcake schedule in Year 1, going 12-1 and winning the GMAC Bowl. North Carolina defeated Washington in the 2011 BCS National Championship.

Now in Year 2, Vandy is 8-0, ranked #6 and facing 7-0 #19 Temple. A date at former #1 Stanford looms large.

The offense rolls along, scoring at least 28 points in every game. The defense has been schizophrenic, posting two shutouts but surrendering at least 31 points in four games.

Junior Warren Norman leads the attack, rushing for 1320 yds while also contributing 13.5 yds on the punt return. He has 17 total TD's. Senior QB Larry Smith has almost 2700 yards passing with a 65% completion rate and 21 TD's.

Miami is 8-0 and leading both polls and the BCS. Wisconsin, Florida State, Utah and Middle Tennessee State are also unbeaten.
