Fire those Cannons!- A NFL HC 09 Francise with the Bucs

By John Clayton and Pat Yasinskas
ESPN.com

The surprising firing of Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden is expected to yield the quick hiring of Kirk Plum as head coach, according to multiple sources.

According to a source, a news conference could be held as early as Saturday.

Plum, 45, has made a meteoric rise from being North Texas' quarterbacks coach in 1999-2000 to likely head coach of the Bucs in 2008. Plum was offensive coordinator at State from 2001 to 2003, was promoted to head coach of Michigan State from 2004 to 2007, and returned to Tampa Bay, his hometown, as the quarterbacks coach this year.

Plum interviewed for the Broncos' head coaching position after Mike Shanahan was dismissed. Plum was promoted to offensive coordinator of the Bucs after Bill Muir left for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The firing of Gruden came out of the blue. Plum was in the process of hiring former Rams offensive coordinator Greg Olsen for the offensive staff.

After 6 p.m. Friday, ownership announced Gruden was out without any indication of replacements. Apparently, a plan was already in place in hiring Plum.

Although Bill Cowher and Mike Shananan are available, they were not contacted by the Bucs. Cowher might not have been interested because of the team's uncertainty at quarterback. Shanahan is on vacation and might sit out next season.

Bucs ownership made a costly decision in firing Gruden. According to multiple sources, their firings cost roughly $25 million in contract commitments. Gruden had signed a three-year, $15.3 million extension and was under contract through 2012.

Gruden has signed a deal to come on as a commentator for Monday Night Football on ESPN.

The Bucs have signed FS Ken Hamlin to a 4 year deal worth $13.5 million dollars, with a $3.5 million dollar signing bonus. They needed Hamlin to help sure up the saftey corps, after the move of Tanard Jackson to CB.

The Bucs have aquired LE Mario Williams from the Texans for WR Joey Galloway, RT Jeremy Trueblood, and a 2009 1st round draft pick. Williams will team up with RE Gaines Adams to help form one of the most dominant pass-rushing tandems in history.

Re: Fire those Cannons!- A NFL HC 09 Francise with the Bucs

The Bucs have announced another star-studded trade. They have traded QB Brian Griese, 2008 3rd Round Draft Pick (83rd), and a 2009 3rd Round Draft Pick for LG Logan Mankins. This is a huge trade, as Mankins is only 25, and is probably the best LG in football. The Bucs will probably move LG Arron Sears to C, as he is only 22, and already has proven himself as a force in the NFL. They will have one of the best interior line groups in football, with Mankins, Sears, and Davin Joesph, at the LG, C, and RG spots, respectively.

The Bucs just keep improving their team with young, proven talent. They have anounced a trade that will send CB Phillip Buchanon, 2008 5th round pick (148), and 2009 2nd round pick for TE Kellen Winslow. Winslow had 82 catches for 1,106 yards and 5 touchdowns last year. He will step in and immediately be the number one option in the passing game, and his numbers could improve even more.

Re: Fire those Cannons!- A NFL HC 09 Francise with the Bucs

It's draft time, and after the Cheifs selected Chris Long, the Rams are on the clock with the 2nd overall pick. Roger Goodell is at the podium with the Rams' selection:

Roger Goodell: "The Rams have announced that they have traded the 2nd overall pick to the BUCCANEERS!"

Chris Berman: "The Bucs have traded WR Ike Hilliard, LOLB Ryan Nece, and the 20th overall pick in the draft. This is a really good trade for who many believe they will select in Darren McFadden."

Roger Goodell: " The Buccaneers have selected: DARREN MCFADDEN, RUNNING BACK OUT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS."

Mel Kiper JR.: "Arguably the most talented player in the draft, McFadden brings a big-play threat to Tampa. He will offer a compliment to Kirk Plum's new West Coast offense. In three years at Arkansas, he carried 785 times for 4,590 yards and 41 touchdowns. He has exceptional acceleration and upper body strength."

The Bucs have traded for the 27th overall pick, they will be giving the Seahawks SS Jermaine Phillips, 52nd overall pick, and a 2009 6th round pick. And with that 27th overall pick, the Bucs select
DT TREVOR LAWS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME.

Mel Kiper: " This is an athletic big-man that can go head to head with any offensive lineman in the NFL. He is very agile, and a defensive play maker. Heck, against BC, he had 11 tackles himself. I think this will be a great pick to complement Gaines Adams and Mario Williams."

What playbooks are you using? What personality is your coach and how did you spend the first 50,000 points? What position philosophies are you using?
