    2008 Season-Divisional Game-Giants 27, Seahawks 21

We had this one for three quarters, but things just fell apart at the end of the fourth. Some of it bad playcalling, some bad plays, and you end up with a comeback for Manning. They really ran the ball a lot more than I expected them to, and in time it ended up working for them.

        2008 FA Period

        Trades:

Seahawks trade K Rob Bironas to Titans for 2(59) pick.
Seahawks trade DT Brandon Mebane to Cowboys for 6(188) and 2010 2nd.

Bironas didn't work out, and I felt I got good value for Mebane.

        Further Season Goals:

        Find a Sleeper
        Don't Draft a Bust

Finally, RE Calais Campbell was released by the Cardinals. He demanded a trade and wasn't traded, so the Cardinals cut him at the end of free agency. I'll have to give some thought whether it would be better to sign him next year or go with a drafted player.

2009 Seattle Seahawks Roster and Cap Information

Overall, I like the way both my roster and salary cap are going. I wish my offensive linemen were more mobile to fit my scheme, but you can't have everything. Salary cap information first, then the team roster with overall and potential next to their name.

                  NFL Salary Cap- 119.48 million
                  Team Salary Cap-48.89 million
                  Salary Cap Room- 34.75 million
                  Current penalties-35.84 million
                  Potential incentives-0
                  Next year penalties-13.10 million

                    2009 Season-Game 1-Seahawks 42, Jaguars 0

Not a lot to say about this one. The Jaguars might not have been ready to start the season, or they're not very good this year. They had the advantage in time of possession, they just never advanced the ball sufficiently to get in scoring position very often.

Not a bad game by the Packers, but they simply didn't do enough on offense to take control of the game. I have to admit my defense is looking pretty good to start the year.

I suspect-and I've got nothing to base it on-that the further you go up the totem pole-the more of a impact the special skills seem to have. I know I wasn't getting turnovers at this rate last year with my DBC, but that seemed to change a lot when he became a DC.

The game-San Francisco did a great job of neutralizing my offense, but my defense was able to get points off turnovers and we had a special teams TD as well. That was enough to get the win on the road against our leading competitor in the division.

DPOW-ROLB Julian Peterson-8 tackles, 3 sacks, FF, FR TD.

The Rams were pretty awful, and we were pretty good. I think that about covers it. They also had their starting QB injured, and that made a bad situation for them worse.

                            2009 Season-Game 5-Seahawks 42, Cardinals 0

Another solid win over a winless team. One note of concern was Serna missing all 3 of his FG attempts, but that will only be a issue once he have close games again. That may come sooner than expected, as our next game will be against the Giants. They're not having the same season as they did last year, but it still should be our first major test.

                              2009 Season-Game 6-Seahawks 24, Giants 21

Our toughest game of the year so far. The Giants played excellent defense all game long, and we really needed that 60 yd run by James to keep our winning streak going, something you might not normally get against their defense.

I am a bit worried about Serna. He missed a chip shot from the 8 yard line in the game, and I may have to look at getting another kicker in the near term.

NFL note- Dolphins RE Jason Taylor announced he is retiring after the season.

                                2009 Season-Game 7-Seahawks 38, Vikings 28

The interceptions almost did us in. I actually got down 2 TDs by the end of halftime, but a strong second half enabled us to emerge with the comeback win.

Coach Smith did feel the need to talk to kicker Serna after the game.

"You've currently got the 2nd worst FG pct. at 46% next to Vanderjagt, and twice as many attempts as him. I'll expect you to finish with around 70% on the season or close to it, otherwise you'll be traded or cut in the offseason. Missed FGs can cause you to lose in close games, and things will be magnified in the playoffs."

"It's not just you-I'll also be giving the same speech to our STC."

Team note-LE Calais Campbell recorded his 15th sack on the season.
