Re: NCAA looking into the recruitment of Cam Newton?
If the NCAA has known about it since last September, we're in the clear.
I somewhat doubt a former Mistake player got Newton to decide to go to Auburn over Mistake. Even if we did pay for him, at this point it will at worst be a Reggie Bush situation where we'll already have a Heisman and maybe more.
However, it's not like Mistake fans haven't been a little upset since Cam decided to go to a program that actually wins football games. Being last in everything might get you to the point where you make up elaborate lies.Comment

Yawn.
To add to Cebby's post, the Auburn Compliance Department has known about the NCAA looking into Cam's recruitment since July. Seriously doubt he would have ever seen the field if anything harmful to AU could have been found.
Other than angry and disgruntled Miss. State folks and the jubilant Crimson faithful praying and desperately seeking anything to get rid of Mr. Newton and the resurgent Auburn program (because they are RUNNING WITH THIS here in Bamaham).... Not a whole lot to this.AUBURN TIGERS

What a fricken minute here. Why in the world would you just generally say Miss State fans and start throwing around accusations? It's not like I sit here and spout off garbage like Auburn fans all have an inferiority complex so they had to cheat to get Newton so they had a shot at beating Bama. See how ridiculous that sounds? I expect better from you guys. Miss State fans are EXTREMELY happy with their season and the way things have gone. If you want to get upset about an individual fan or player then fine but the generalization stuff is just dumb and uncalled for.Golf: Bubba

Do we really need to have a discussion about a few off the wall fans? We are talking about the states of Alabama and Mississippi here. I promise you both schools have plenty. It's just distasteful and uncalled for. You would blow your lid if somebody made some ridiculous accusation about you guys.Golf: Bubba

It's pretty much been accepted that we are all going to stereotype each other. Auburn fans have the Alabama complex and believe everyone is out to get them, LSU fans are drunken, uneducated corndogs, Alabama fans are sidewalk alums and cokeheads, Florida fans wear jorts, Ole Miss fans believe "the South will rise again", etc.
It's half the fun.Comment

Um, that's just what you have to get used to. That's AA's way. Any wrong doing that Auburn could possibly be involved in causes him to point the finger at another school and it's fans, namely Bama. We shared the brunt of it with you guys this time.
Regarding the story, I'm not putting too much stock into it either way just yet. Of course, it could be the result of a disgruntled fan who thinks the only explanation for him choosing Auburn over State was money, or it really could have some legs. I'm not ready to decide on who's right or wrong, but the story is interesting.
I will say however, that Cebby is right that this rumor is old. It started just before Cam committed actually. There were already some MSU fans upset that they had gotten out-bidded by Auburn a couple of days or so before the official announcement.PS: You guys are great.

Re: NCAA looking into the recruitment of Cam Newton?
I didn't realize everyone was so sensitive, all of a sudden. Geez.
I'm not putting any stock into this story either.
As an Auburn fan, my brain doesn't even want to think about this being true, but with the facts we're given (very few), it's hard to find any truth in this story. As time goes on, things may become more clear.. but the story just doesn't add up yet.
Why is it just not coming out now ? It's November, more than a year after the NCAA first receiving this "information". I find it hard to believe they waited until now to investigate it. The NCAA has been like gangbusters recently and if someone tipped them off to something they would hop on it.
If we did something wrong, I'll be highly disappointed. I have enough faith to think we wouldn't jeopardize the immediate future of the football program over something this ridiculous. Every school cheats, but to what extent ? Is it a possibility that they offered him the money, but he went the other direction and signed with Auburn ? I know the church situation seems fishy, but the decision was left with his father and maybe he decided against Miss. State because of someone offering money and he wanted no part.
& like Trob just said, there's been rumors flying around since he signed.Comment

It has been around for a while, the main reason the ESPN and the media is picking it up is because they have a person actually going on record with it. I dot know if to believe it or not, but it might do some damage to Newton's Heismen hopes whether he is guilty or not and that is unfortunate.

Chzik just said he can't really comment, but that Cam Newton is completely eligible at Auburn. Nothing will come of this...no one would be this stupid."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: NCAA looking into the recruitment of Cam Newton?
Would Auburn pay a street agent? Maybe
Would Auburn pay a street agent who is a Mississippi St alum for a kid who is coming down to Auburn and Mississippi St? Probably not
Even if Auburn did the NCAA's lack of subpoena power will greatly aid us. The Newtons obviously aren't giving up the info and the Mistake player won't want his NFL agent abilities revoked so as long as there isn't a lawsuit the NCAA won't have the ability to do anything. Plus after the Alabama/Fulmer thing Slive has been going out of his way to make sure that nobody in the SEC is "snitching." I'd almost expect to see him go after MSU for not controlling their former QB than going after Auburn.
Further, if MSU continued to go after Newton for another 4-5 months after this offer then clearly they didn't think the money was a major factor.Last edited by Cebby; 11-04-2010, 09:00 PM.Comment
