There is no investigation into Auburn.

A source close to Auburn's athletic department with knowledge of the situation told the Opelika-Auburn News that "there are no NCAA allegations against any member of Auburn's coaching staff or anyone associated with Auburn in the recruitment of Cam Newton."

The source chose to remain anonymous because the NCAA strongly encouraged the school not to comment on the matter.

"There is no evidence whatsoever of any contact at all between Kenny Rogers and Auburn's staff," the source said.

"Cam Newton is eligible to play for Auburn and will continue to play for Auburn."

Gene Chizik said as much to kick off his weekly radio show "Tiger Talk" on Thursday night.

"Cameron Newton is eligible at Auburn University," the head coach said. "Period. End of story"

The only thing that will come of this is some snide comments by rival fans and a very angry Auburn team taking their frustrations out on UT Chattanooga, Georgia, and Alabama.

This is what I posted earlier...

The only thing I've seen that might change this is that IF the Newton's solicited for money, even if they never took anything, than Newton would be ineligible to play for anyone. If the NCAA looks at MSU and finds that they did ask for money, they could rule him ineligible.

* There's a reason Auburn hasn't said anything else. It would like to. It has nothing hide. However, it can't.

First of all the whole Cam Story getting paid by Auburn story doesn't compute. The story just makes no sense. I really doubt there are any legs to this.

So this is what it looks like to me

1. Miss St. fans accuse Auburn of paying player
2. Auburn fan then somehow turns it around and makes it seem as if UF was behind the story.
3. Hilarity ensues.

Since when did a street agent pulling in $200,000 per player live in the hood?

If they were making $200k total per year they'd be far from the south side. If Cam was the only player on their books they'd be 70+ blocks north.
