Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3

Report: BOTH New Xbox and PS4 Will Be Shown At E3
Information comes from "100% concrete, ultra high level" source.
    January 6, 2012
    by Keza MacDonald
UK games industry outlet MCV has reported that both the next Xbox AND the PlayStation 4 will be shown at this year's E3 in June.

This isn't the first time that a publication has cited an unnamed source with information like this, but this isn't some unknown central European games blog - MCV's credibilty makes this particular report worth paying attention to.

Speaking on Twitter, MCV's online editor Ben Parfitt said "Obviously we can't reveal our sources. But you have my personal word on this - the source is *********, 100% concrete, ultra high level."

We shouldn't necessarily expect a full-blown reveal, though - we might just see the announcement. Editor-in-Chief Michael French told IGN: "This is very credible. Even if we don't see the hardware itself, or know a price or date, key publishers and developers are expecting some nod towards what direction PS4 will take at E3 this year. Sony isn't stupid - it knows that if Microsoft is planning to also say something about its next console, it can't be left behind."

Many were expecting Microsoft to come out on stage at E3 with some information about the new Xbox, but Sony's reveal would be more surprising, as a new console at this stage in the PlayStation 3's life cycle would fly in the face of the company's stated "ten-year plan".

If both Sony and Microsoft do indeed reveal their new consoles at the same time as Nintendo details the release schedule and pricing for the Wii U, this would quite probably be the biggest E3 in history.
    This is quite the news.

Hopefully a teaser at E3, a full reveal at TGS, and a mid to late 2013 release window. I don't want this thing coming out for the holiday season in 2012. I'm not ready yet!!!

I'd be good with 2014 even. I don't know, I'm just not sure I'm ready to buy new consoles anytime soon. Unless the technology is substantially better than what we have now, I just don't want new consoles yet.

Depends on the price for me.

They are adding all this other crap to it, and the price point will probably be like $700. -__-

              And they learned the lesson.

I have a feeling these will be priced around that $700 mark.

              PS3 was $600 wasn't it?

Also, rumor is Microsoft has a DVR built in, I don't want all that if it is going to cost me more. It's 2012, most of us have all of these things already,

I can handle 2013... I'm actually kind of excited to see what we'd be in store for.

Two games I would want to see most:

PS4 Uncharted, and PS4 The Show

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3

I think that both have learned some of their lessons from this generation, at least I hope they have. I see next gen pricing starting out at $399 for the entry models because this whole multi sku deal is the norm these days thanks to Apple pulling it off with the iPod.

If we get new systems in 2013, that will be great since it will have been respectively 7 and 8 years that both the Xbox and PS3 have been on the market. My biggest concern would be sports games and if they take a seat back like they have this generation taking a good 5-6 years to have a full package like their PS2 counterparts. To a degree this hardware is aging a bit and I can only imagine what can be done with a bit more system ram for both. Many reports earlier in the year mentioned that Sony was sticking with similar hardware components for the PS4, which is how the Vita was designed in mind so porting games can be much easier for developers.

Hopefully MSFT goes the Sony route with not having all these add-on accessories that need to be purchased like battery packs, HDD's, etc. We did that in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's......time to move forward. The original IP's fell to the wayside the last half of this generation and hopefully they do something with that next gen. If the next system gets completely tied into a Windows 8 like platform it only strengthens MSFT imo to build synergy across their platforms for gaming, PC, and mobile.

Sony needs to learn to better integrate all their online components into one cohesive infrastructure for online gameplay, but also their web sites. It is just a total mess right now to deactivate systems on one web site or trying to view trophies on another that hasn't been properly updated in over a year. They need a nice mix of old IP's returning and new ones, some exclusives from PS1/PS2 era are starting to grow stale.

I hope that we get to see something from all 3 at E3 2012, that will be very cool as long as it's not a lot of CG.

I don't think there's any avoiding the accessories explosion, nice thing about them is options. I've got 3rd party batteries with external contacts for use in a dock for my 360 controllers. I've had a PS3 Sixaxis internal battery die apparently and had no options.

Glad we're beyond stuff like the vibration lawsuit, so none of this 'rumble is a last generation feature' then they get past the lawsuit 'oh ok, here's your new dual shock for as much as a game'

Kaz Hirai still around though, so we can expect some ridiculous statements.

Prices will be very high for at least the first quarter or two, then inch down as demand and the supply chain is tweaked. Business as usual.

That force feedback lawsuit was so stupid that Sony didn't want to pony up the money. The original PS3 DS3 controllers were built like tanks. My 2 DS3's I have now are like crap. One has a sticky X button and the d-pad doesn't feel right anymore. My other controller, on the right hand side where you grip it, it feels like I can break the plastic with some force. Now the 360 controllers are another story, to me those have been very well built and sturdy. I've had one controller where the D-pad was kind of sticky a bit, but nothing major.

No arguing the hard drive pricing was ridiculous though, alternatives like the thumb drives hopefully will be available from the get go, and the cloud storage of course.

How they both approach backwards compatibility will be something interesting to watch.

Something tells me PS4 is coming out this year for they can pair it up with the PS Vita. I hope not though. 2013 would be better.

Because if any console comes out this year then we all know all sports games for this current generation going to be half arsed due to them spending more time on the PS4 and new 360 version.

I also think they might not make big hard drives anymore for consoles and instead use the cloud technology more. I just hope these consoles have at LEAST 3GB of RAM in them.

I don't know why they haven't realized by now that the lack of RAM these consoles have is bottle necking the true power of game consoles.
