Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3

I'm ready for a new console. What I'm not ready for is developers jumping in and riding on the coattails of the newer systems and claiming it's going to be a "whole new game." That's what made this generation sour for me. More specifically with sports gaming, what we have is release after release, from EA to 2K, with the inability to capitalize on this generation's hardware.

Think about how awful the experience has been with online modes for 2K and then how EA simply did not take full advantage of what the PS3 and 360 can do for games like Madden/Fight Night/Elite.

I think this generation of first party software/hardware has accomplished much, but the third party action has lagged behind, making the experience tarnished for me.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I'm also hoping we don't have another "sports game hangover", when the new systems release. The initial Madden and NCAA releases with the new consoles were terrible. The PS2 counterpart played better than the PS3. The graphics may have looked a little better, but that's about it.

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3

In General for both systems I'd like to see the following:

Smarter A.I. - with next generation of systems, the A.I should be much smarter due to the extra processing power. Games this gen you still have A.I. just standing there with thumbs up you know what.

More Immersion - Like Halo, if I kill enemies, unless someone comes and picks up the bodies those bodies should still stay on the ground. Bring on destructible environments. If this can be done with Frostbite 2.0 this gen, it can really be amped up to the next level.

Exclusive DLC - I have gotten so sick of exclusive system DLC this generation, that just needs to go away already but most likely will not.

Exclusive Apps - another area where I feel it hurts the consumer when one system has apps tied up that the other can't have. I understand this is a business, but it would benefit greatly to have these apps across multiple platforms.

Better Hardware - while MSFT stumbled quite a bit out of the gate with RROD, YLOD for Sony wasn't good either. Some accessories as the systems were getting cheaper in price have been affected in lower quality to a degree like the DS3 as an example.

Cloud Storage - allow us to purchase more space if we would like if we start to run out of the 150MB (PS3) and 300MB (360) limits.

Patches - games should not be released completely broken and then we have to wait months for a patch or the best is the release day patches. Why implement tuner sets when your game isn't going to even use them? LOL!

        Sony

Full Integration - one area where Sony is lacking is the full integration of all their online web sites. This is just insane, there needs to be a unified front. SCEE is trouncing SCEA in many areas when it comes to this. Then you have SCEJ that allows users to use certain features that nobody else can around the world. SCEE has an Android/iPhone app, how about the rest of the world? WTF! LOL!

Play.Create.Share - Sony uses this slogan quite a bit for games like LBP, Infamous, and Mod Nation, but why not include this in FPS like Resistance or Killzone? Look at what Halo has brought to FPS with Forge, take it to the next level. Allow us to build new maps for MP and share them with the first party shooters, etc.

Move 2.0 - Move has been great, but has its quirks. It takes the Wii setup and does it pretty well with HD graphics. The camera leaves a lot to be desired considering how old it is. The original PSEye was unique which kind of became the tech for Kinect. Release an HD camera with the next gen of consoles that integrates the voice commands, full body motion tracking, but also allowing the user of the Move and Nav controllers creating a hybrid layout. One more thing, why is there a nav controller if not everything is really using it except for shooters?

Release Scheduling - While 2011 was great for PS3 exclusives, each month there was a new exclusive out not giving games breathing room. This segmented the market, but also affected the online portion of games with not enough people being able to enjoy a MP game long enough cause the next one was around the corner. A good 4+ titles could have been held off for 2012.

VITA Integration - It's a bit premature since this is not out yet in the U.S., but if there isn't full integration with the PS3/4 goes to show that these guys do not have the consumer in mind to create synergy.

PSN Games on VITA - If the VITA is close to a PS3 in our hands, take the steps to get PSN games we purchase for the PS3 playable on the VITA. If Sony doesn't do this, I can see MSFT coming out with a handheld that would allow XBLA games to run on it. Need to be really forward thinking here and it doesn't seem like they are.

3rd Party Development - there are no excuse for developers like EA anymore to make half *** sports ports and Madden 12 is a good example of that. If Yukes and Visual Concepts fixed the abundant of jaggies issues with their PS3 releases like WWE12 and NBA2K12.

Full Trophy Syncing - trophies needs to work like achievements do, once they popup instantly with no delay they hit your account........same thing needs to happen here.

Updated XMB - I like the XMB a lot, but wish Sony would of made a few changes to it making it a bit more of a visual presentation. Not sure I care for the PSV bubbles which are meant to be apps style.

        MSFT

IP's - Where the hell did the original IP's or even sequels to great 360 exclusives go? Crackdown 2 was a great franchise that was left to die, Ninety Nine Nights II comes and goes without any fanfare, Alan Wake 2 is missing and the list goes on. Why is Gears 3, Forza 4, and Halo: A released in a span of 3 months back to back. I just finished Alan Wake a few weeks ago and what a great game that this deserves a sequel, not a XBLA release. To me Alan Wake felt like this generations Silent Hill and pretty much made up for how bad SH has gone in direction.

Kinect 2.0 - Kinect is amazing technology, but can really be a hindrance for small spaces. Make the next camera be able to have better FOV so we don't have to spend money on accessories like what Nyko sells to fix the issue. Kinect has been out for over a year now and I expected big things from this due to the full body tracking, but no developer has really taken advantage except for Twisted Pixel making a little game called The The Gunstringer that I have read is awesome on Kinect.

Overpriced Accessories - This is one area where MSFT really made a nice buck this past generation. Hopefully moving into next generation we don't have to worry about battery packs, proprietary HDD's, etc. That stuff just adds to the costs and I understand that this is a business with these guys trying to recoup costs off of the games and accessories since they can't with hardware till later on during life cycle.

Beef up the first party studios - MSFT has made the mistake of allowing many of their first party studios going on to new ventures in the past. While those other studios have pretty much failed, except for Bungie (so far) just doesn't make any sense to keep letting these studios go.

Dashboard - I love the new dashboard as it fits in with the Windows 8 model, but there still seems like there are features that get buried in there. There have been many complaints about the new dash, but I think it works and it adds a nice visual presentation. I'd hope MSFT keeps this dash around for a few years and doesn't change it yet again come next Fall.

Support 360 - MSFT sold a lot of 360's this generation and if they want to keep that loyal fan base, they will need to continue to support the 360 even when the new system is out. We know it was an issue with the original XBOX since they were losing money.

And I am not on board with all of the movement-based controller schemes. Just not into that stuff. Same with 3D. Cool, but not a big draw for me.

I'm looking for three main things in "next gen"
          • Much Advanced Online Play. Everything I can do offline, I should be able to do online. Campaign modes should embrace online co-op. Sports games should all have fully-functioned online leagues. I want to be able to have live look-ins when my friends are playing a league game. It should be extremely easy to pair up with friends online to play.
          • Smarter Games. Much smarter. I don't want developers to be able to give processing power or other system limitations as a reason why AI is lacking. I need games that remember and react to everything I've done in the past. When I go on a destruction spree in Grand Theft Auto, save my game and boot it up the next day, I want to hear the in-game radio stations talking about it and be able to see street crews repairing busted traffic signals, street lighting, and buildings. When I play MLB The Show, I want pitchers to approach Eric Hosmer cautiously when I've homered with him four games in a row. I don't want to see enemies spawn/materialize in front of me, ever.
          • More Customization Ability. It's time to move away from the old mindset that console games are static pieces of work. As the internet and social media have grown, so to have people's desires (and ability) to create amazing content. Let's give both developers and gamers the ability to leverage one another to extend the creative process past when the Blu-Ray disc is pressed (speaking of which, I hope we see even more digital distribution). I want to be able to import real ads for stadiums into MLB The Show. Give me map creators for Call Of Duty. Give us the power to edit almost anything about a game. Developers should create the universe, and let the gamers control exactly what it looks and plays like.

For the rest to happen, online cannot be the #1 priority of these guys

I think they got too far away from the core of gaming because of that crap and people still complain anyway

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3

I am so sick of online multi-player and co-op modes. Forget that. fix the single player mode FIRST. I bought so many games this generation that I was able to beat in 8 hours or less that it wasn't even funny.

And I'm also tired of developers being overly dependent on patches. This whole generation you had to wait for a patch or 2 just for the game to play CORRECTLY. And with sports games, it was the worse. Every sports game every year had no less then 4 patches.

Makes no sense how overly dependent they were on patches this generation. I felt sorry for those who didn't have Xbox Live or PSN, because they were stuck with the broken sports games this whole generation.

So for the next generation I want games to last and not be any shorter then 25 hours of game play. When I buy a sports game, I expect everything to WORK out of the box.

Nobody should be forced to spend the first month a sports game come out working on sliders or roster edits just to get the game to play correctly.

Game play should be priority number one. Online and co-op should be an after thought bonus, not a priority.

Totally agree. Main reason why over the past couple years my game purchases have dropped a LOT. I really only grab up the non sports titles that offer hours of gameplay. Online gaming for me is hugely overated and something I would never ever miss. However Like what was just posted, its probably just going to be more or the same or worse. Oh well. It will make those times where a great single player game releases that much more exciting.

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3

I agree that the single player aspect needs to get better but saying online gaming is overrated is nonsense. Lets face the facts, there are more and more social networking options releasing, more and more community games releasing that allow multiple people to connect and interact with each other. Playing with people that also have a controller in their hand will always be superior to AI however they need to somehow decrease the lag in online shooters.

Multiplayer is the future and thats a given however companies need to start having the single player of games better. Allow people to enjoy a game offline as much as they do online. Give great stories, moments and events that will be memorable. I mean I can to this day remember events of past games (FF7 Aerith getting killed, Your character being Darth Rean in KOTOR, the Zelda series story, etc). I want that in this and future generations.

Dont make games beatable in 4-6 hours. Im not saying they hae to be 25 hours long but make it long enough to flesh the story out and give a satisfying ending. Ten to Fifteen hours should be the normal for shooters but with CoD and such having 4-6 hours of Single player and being sucessful in that its giving other company's the same idea.

With the new systems I expect all games to run at at least 60 fps, especially shooters. Rage was so silky smooth and would love to see what other games could do with that as well.

I'm guessing I'll catch some flak for this, but I'm hoping with the PS4 that Sony redesigns their controller. I have both the 360 and PS3 and cannot stand the PS3 controller. It feels small, the sticks don't feel good and isn't as comfortable to play. I really notice the difference when I play BF3 as I'm significantly better with the 360 controller!

I'll agree with this, I do prefer the 360 controller over the PS3. More solid and feels better when playing.

I actually prefer the PS3 controller... by quite a bit honestly. However, I do wish they would mimic the analog stick placement and concave triggers of the 360 design. Outside of that, I like the feel, buttons, analog stick movement, and dpad a lot more on PS3.

The only thing that made me move away from the PS3 was the lack of friends on it and the controller.

I'll probably get one close to release and then get the other a couple years later. I'm not getting either at release if they're $600 though, $400's my limit.

Its not that multiplayer doesnt matter

What they've done is give it most of the attention while widely ignoring SP

SP always have been and always should be the main focus of games

Ignore that and all you have is a bunch of online games which is not what most people buy videogames for

Sure online is apart of the program but the way things have been, they've seemed to have made that the priority and its still not up to snuff, and it becomes a ripoff to people who just want to play the game.

Its amazing though because its just a whole bunch of selfish people who want to run up their gamer scores and cheat if possible to get it done... thats not fun
