Steam alone has really opened up my eyes on how much can be saved in the long run. Then add Origin, Amazon, and GOG that have crazy sales of their own.

Last night I just ordered a 25ft HDMI and optical cables to go from my office in the next room to the 50" plasma in the family room. I tested my current PC setup on the plasma already and the PC looks good, I can only imagine how it is running things on High or Ultra at higher resolutions.

I'm going out today to get the Nvidia 560, was going to get the TI, but from what I've read and for my use the regular 560 is a few notches below the TI. Too bad the 500 series Nvidia's don't have audio also bitstreaming like the Radeon cards. Hoping next month to get the new CPU/Mobo/RAM and really be rocking.
My old build which is still pumping out everything on high+ I am about to do ONE simple upgrade. A 560 Ti! then I am in business for my new route, gaming back on the PC but in COMFORT!! I MIGHT throw two more sticks of ram to jump it up to 8 (currently only running 4). But all in all for a $250 upgrade you can't beat that and playing everything near maxed on for years to come.

I know WTF, I think I can make due with FIFA, MLB2k and NBA2k on PC, but EA really needs to step up to the plate and release NCAA football for PC. PLEASE!!!!!!!

That would be the golden ticket. Mods on football games, hell could you imagine the "real face" mods , "Shadow mods", "Real grass mods" etc etc

Ability to game better than consoles, have true web browser and not some knock off like the PS3 has. PLUS ability of all the great mods PC offer, why don't more people go this route!!!

I think you may see the return of PC sports games from EA with the advent of Origin. Might require you to be online or whatever since their whole reason of stopping them was to stop pirating, but I get the feeling they'll be back within the next few years. If they do that, I may go the PC route. I already want to build a PC, but can't right now as a (currently) jobless college student.

Madden would be another title I'd like to see brought to the PC.

The 560 TI is a beast of a card and should last you a few years. I'm looking at an i5 2500 and 8gb of RAM or higher, but I hear more than 8 doesn't help much with gaming.

The 560 I'm going to get has 2GB DDR5 RAM on it and is the overclocked edition. Hoping it doesn't murder my current Core 2 Duo setup until I can get these other parts......even though I'll have a CPU bottleneck till I upgrade, it'll run better than my GTS 250.

Yea plus the 560 has the Mini HDMI connection so it will run both sound and video from one cable.

All I know is playing shooters such as Battlefield 3 with mouse and keyboard precision on a 55"+ TV = BEAST!

Also Capt, and WTF are both of you guys signed up for the Steam OS group? I see Nemesis, Cyros, Mill, Sandman, Me, edotd, bcruise, Trob, and Xavier.

How does mini HDMI work since I was trying to figure out how to get the sound to my receiver over the HDMI? I am only using onboard sound for now and it has an optical cable.

I'm not signed up for the Steam OS Group, details please.

I have yet to mess with HDMI and mini HDMI. But from what I know you would purchase a cable such as this.
                  http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-P57.../dp/B000TT80DG

Mini plugs into your video card, regular plugs into your TV. Now as far as the setup I believe you would go out your video card to your receiver then to your TV if I am correct. I am sure there is multiple ways to route these cables correctly. I am just not 100% on the up and up with HDMI for sound. I have always used optical to receiver and HDMI to TV.

PC (hdmi cable) -> receiver (hdmi cable) -> TV
PC (hdmi cable) -> TV (hdmi cable) -> receiver
PC (hdmi cable) -> TV (optical cable) -> receiver

Mini HDMI is just that, it's a mini port for a mini HDMI cable. Some HDMI cables have regular sized HDMI "male" on one end, and a mini male on the other end, specially designed for computer use. Some of the video cards that you'll buy also has a Mini HDMI to HDMI adapter that comes with it, so you can use your existing HDMI cable (full sized).

And I hadn't signed up for the OS group. I'm downloading steam to my laptop as we type, so I'll join up shortly.

Haha.. Nah. I don't have time to play on a computer anyway. It "sounds" awesome to do, but I just literally don't have time. Have an awesome laptop, just no time to play it. Family is coming home tomorrow, so after today, I'll once again have no time until I go down to Nashville for a few days next month.

Oh I hear that! That is part of the reason for me going back to PC. I am paying for xbox live and my time is becoming so limited I rather just for with a free online service. Remodeling a house, planning a wedding, doing things with friends, family obligations, work, college, etc etc. List just goes on and on why my time is becoming more and more strapped.

But a PC rigged which i can get games on the cheap and play for free online when I get time = Win WIN!!

                              Xbox 720: Blu-ray inside, always-on netcon required

VG247 has learned that Microsoft has now detailed Xbox 720 to certain partners and has internally confirmed the machine for a Christmas 2013 release.

The next generation Xbox will have a Blu-ray drive, contrary to a recent report.

Multiple sources have confirmed this morning that the machine will have two GPUs. One said: “It’s like two PCs taped together.”

We’re waiting for final confirmation of specs, but the graphics cards are thought to be equivalent to AMD’s 7000 series GPUs, but “not CrossFire or SLI”. The GPUs aren’t structured as they are in a normal dual PC set-up, in which the two chips take it in turns to draw lines of the same object: Xbox 720′s graphics units will be able to work independently, drawing separate items simultaneously.
There will be “four or six” cores to the Xbox 720 CPU, one of which will be reserved for Kinect and one for the OS.

Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure.

We’ve also been told that the next generation of Kinect will be built into the device as standard.

The details have emerged in the wake of a hastily removed tweet from Sean Tracy, a technical designer for Crytek, that said he was attending the “Durango summit” in London at the end of February. Durango is though to be the codename for the console.

Microsoft is not expected to announce anything pertaining to its next machine until next year.

Many developers have been posting job openings for “next-gen” and “future-gen” systems for months.

Lionhead and Bethesda are just two of the latest.
