I'm still going to have to see it to believe it, lol. Until then, I say 2014.
I've been wrong before though!Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
After yesterday's NPD Jason, these consoles need to release in Fall 2013 or I'm afraid that the gaming industry could be in some trouble. I know I've also thrown 2014 around, but to see both the Wii and PS3 sell under 200K combined in the month of May 2012 things don't look good. Maybe price drops later this summer can help a little bit.Comment

And I don't see how coming out with a new system in 2013 next year will help anything.
In these economic times...most people aren't ready to drop $500+ on a new console. People just don't have that kind of disposable income and most people are pretty satisfied with the current consoles (not necessarily the games).
If people aren't buying $60 games right now, why in the world would they drop $500+ on a new console?
Holiday season 2014 at the earliest IMO.Comment

I think if the current gen sees a drop in prices (all systems all games) it would send a jolt to the industry.
The gaming industry isn't hurting when it comes to gamers. There's more now than ever. It's hurting in sales. The only way to fix that is to lower current prices on the great hardware that's out now. Not come fresh with double the current asking price.
I personally don't think newer more expensive consoles and games are going to solve anything.
At least in my house anyway.Last edited by Chef Matt; 06-15-2012, 10:31 PM.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
Other thing is this
I know some of you wont admit it but games at their core are Single player and have always been
This online stuff has screwed alot of stuff up from development time to bugs to games being shorter, to flat out not being good at all
Throw in DLC for things that should be there, people feel like theyre getting less in some cases and the jump from 50 to 60 bucks from the last gen for games that halfway work right sometimes... its just not kosherComment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
Links to scans of the document are includedA lengthy business document purportedly sourced back to Microsoft showed up on Scribd yesterday. In it, alleged details about an "Xbox 720." For starters, the 56-page document claims the next-generation Xbox will launch in 2013 for $299, alongside the "Kinect V2." The doc also claims it'll come packed with Blu-ray functionality and be able to play game that are "4x - 6x" better looking than Xbox 360. If only it could promise the game themselves would be 4x - 6x better!
Beyond the stuff you'd expect, the document also claims Microsoft has Augmented Reality glasses in the works named "Fortaleza" (presumably built at Brazil-based Innovation Center Fortaleza) – the document says we won't see through MS' AR until some time in 2014, post-console launch. Additionally, it claims the "Xbox 720" will have some form of "always on" functionality, as well as the ability to run apps at the same time (read: multitasking).
Now before you go getting all excited, you should probably know that this document surfaced in some form back in early May on Nukezilla. Moreover, even if it's totally legit, the document itself appears to be rather old – dating back to August 2010 at least. That said, some of the info detailed in the document has since been announced by Microsoft (most notably Smart Glass). We've seen some pretty thorough fakes in our time, but this would be the most thorough if it were.
We've reached out to Microsoft for comment, but, well, you know.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Sort of like how there is a new iPhone prototype leaked every other week.
Take that with a grain of salt.

Yeah it's probably fake but when the rumors start, that's when you know that we're getting closer to the system coming out.
Edit: I was starting to think that this was definitely fake but I read this on neogaf and I'm not sure now:

Tom Warren here (Senior Editor at The Verge). I posted this story at The Verge yesterday. I just wanted to clear up a few things and address some points I've seen posted elsewhere etc. The Xbox 720 leak was covered by The Verge at The Verge, not Polygon at The Verge. I know the temporary home can be confusing at times, but thought it was important to point that out.
As for how we check these types of stories. I have been reporting on Microsoft for around 12 years now. That's not to say I know everything about Microsoft and its processes, but I have a fairly good idea of what is and isn't an internal doc usually after the first few pages. This document in question is from August 2010, prior to iOS 4.2 (mentioned in the PPT notes) and when certain team members (mentioned in doc notes) were still at the company in engineering roles. The document references several employees by name and uses one of Microsoft's internal "CSG_Pres" PowerPoint templates (an early example of their Metro style PowerPoint templates that are used regularly internally now).
Couple this with the fact it aligns with other information I've seen about Nextbox over the past year, it aligned perfectly. The document also references Microsoft's SmartGlass technology (announced at E3). I went through a number of other ways to verify the information was as accurate as other stories we would report on - I'm not going to outline the exact processes because I like to keep those secret
We make every attempt to ensure this type of data is accurate. I ran a number of stories ahead of this year's E3, and they were all accurate:
Microsoft to bring full Internet Explorer browsing to Xbox 360 with Kinect controls
Exclusive: Kinect Play Fit to offer universal exercise tracking with 'Joule' heart rate monitor
Exclusive: $99 Xbox 360 + Kinect bundle launching next week with two-year subscription
Exclusive: Microsoft to preview 'Woodstock' Xbox music service at E3
Hopefully this clears up any questions over how we vet this type of information. I don't typically report on Xbox or gaming news (its not my core knowledge) but I do enjoy reading Neogaf threads from time to time. You guys have an amazing community here so keep it up
Thanks,

If that's true the part that jumps out at me the most is the price of $299, even if that is just the base model doesn't that seem like a pretty low price for a new console?Favorite Teams:

Because of the revenue Live brings in, MS is probably in a unique position to offer a new console with significant horsepower at a price like that.

I don't think there's anyway it is going to have an initial price point of $299, but if it does, I will probably be an early adopter, i.e., buying one in the first year of its release, of a console for the first time ever.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
What's so hard to believe about a $299 price point?
PS1, PS2, Xbox, 360 Core were $299.
Microsoft will likely continue the 2 sku strategy again - $299 and $399. Sony will be at $299 or $399 with their next console too. Blu-ray was a big factor in driving up the PS3 cost. PS3 struggled because of its high price point and Sony could use a homerun.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
I think when most of us read about a $299 price point, we don't think about a Core sku. I forget that those units even exist. I definitely wouldn't buy a stripped down unit for that price. What's so hard to believe about a $299 price point?
