Why rush it. They have the ability to just release firmware updates, and developers still don't seem like they have reached the ceiling yet.

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
Exactly. They would really need to blow everything out of the water in order to make the new systems seem worth investing in.Games are still looking really good on the current consoles and I don't think a lot of developers are very excited over a new console. Plus with the economy the way it is, will people really spend $500 to $600 on a new system at this point?

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
It would have to be a total game changer for me to buy another console. My PS3 still works good as a console, bluray player, and a decent media player. 3D is not a game changer to me.PSN: VoltronLeader

Particle effects everywhere!Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

I still don't think people would invest their money straight away, giving how you'd need a TV to support it. That's going to add to the price even more.Sony's next futile push will be 4k resolution.

Does Microsoft push for the same thing? Or simply go for Blu-ray, giving how they are still using DVD.
I have a feeling Sony will win the hardware contest again. They just seem to have the better tech, across all their products.Comment

As Sony has illustrated, "winning the hardware contest" on paper doesn't mean a successful product. They still might never see a profit on the PS3 and their television business has been unprofitable for 8 years.I still don't think people would invest their money straight away, giving how you'd need a TV to support it. Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
I can agree with that. The obvious problem with having the better hardware (This goes for any company) is the price. Their television business I wasn't aware of being that way for so long, which I find strange given the quality of their TV's (Which IMO, are one the best). As Sony has illustrated, "winning the hardware contest" on paper doesn't mean a successful product. All comes down to one thing. Economy.Comment

According to an article I just read on pulse from gamestop, MS said that the 360 has 2 more years left and the they are in no rush to release a new console because of the still great sucess of the 360 and being number one globally, we might night see a new Xbox until later 2014...hmmmm

According to the head of Microsoft Studios, Phil Spencer, the Xbox 360 may well be with us for quite a long time yet.
With the next generation coming up quickly, some may expect that the Xbox 360 will fall by the wayside as Microsoft transitions to the next generation. However, that doesn't seem to be the case, as Spencer says it has "a lot more than just two years left."
Speaking to GameSpot, Spencer said, "It's a platform that has really reached scale; this is the time when you really see the great content showing up. The future in a lot of ways is always tomorrow: [things like] the SmartGlass technology and Windows 8 [show that] things are going to constantly evolve.
"The world where everything gets centered around one console and when that comes out--we kind of have to evolve away from just thinking about that, [especially] with the service-based nature of games today. Right now the Xbox 360 is really healthy and it's doing incredibly well. I think the 360 has a lot more than two years [left]. It has legs for a long time."
The original Xbox disappeared from store shelves the instant there was even a whisper of an Xbox 360 being released, sparking some worries that Microsoft may be dropping support for 360 sooner rather than later.
However, we expect Microsoft will keep supporting Xbox 360 for quite a while after the Xbox 720 arrives. Especially if they both share the same version of Xbox Live. Even if the first party games stop flowing, that doesn't prevent users from using their 360 for Netflix, purchasing videos, nor does it prevent third party developers from leveraging the tens of millions of current Xbox owners. So fret not, 360 owners.Comment

I really think the 360 will take on the role that the PS2 did for awhile after the PS3 released. Wonder if the PS3 will stick around or not though.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
I wouldn't be surprised if in a year or two they were able to get the system down to a Wii or Mac Mini size and sold it for 5 more years as a separate product than it's replacement. Xbox Live and the entertainment options it provides would make it difficult for Roku and that class of devices to really compete if they can price something like that at $99.Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
I agree with that, I think the 360 will continue to sell like the PS2 did when it was in the same position. With the PS3 it will be interesting to see where things go. The dark horse in all this is that WiiU, it possibly could steal sales again from both. I find it funny though how both MSFT and Sony continue to write off Nintendo yet again, I guess they forgot what happened the last time.Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
I just think the thing that makes them easy to write off is there's no Wii Sports.
I remember playing Wii Sports for the first time, and showing that to other people... and that game got us and them to buy the console. There's nothing really close to that experience at this point... especially if SmartGlass and Vita-PS3 stuff can gain any traction before the WiiU launches, takes a bit of the luster of experiencing the Gamepad even if it's not a superior experience.Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
This is but one of the reasons I don't think we'll see new hardware from MS or Sony next year:
Yes, Nintendo is getting a jump start, but right now, and based off those comments, neither of the other two companies need to worry about their systems being outperformed yet graphically. Not to say Wii U isn’t up to snuff with the other platforms. Iwata pointed out that certain multi-platform games that have already been shown already look comparable to their counterparts on other systems. “If you look at the game Assassin’s Creed III, which was recently announced or shown, you can’t see much difference when you compare it with games for other companies’ systems,” he said.Comment
