If its locked to a single PSN account does that mean someone with a separate PSN account wouldn't be able to play on the same PS4?
I'm fine with anti-used games since I don't buy them, but if you need 2 copies for 2 separate PSN accounts on the same PS3 then that is going to cause problems.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

That's a good point. My (almost) wife and I share almost every game we play since we have separate accounts, mainly because we both love Trophies. Having to buy two copies would SUCK.If its locked to a single PSN account does that mean someone with a separate PSN account wouldn't be able to play on the same PS4?

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
The "no used games" bit was coming from both consoles, as you read a never ending stream of "Gamestop/Used Games are killing the industry!" article on various sites. The bigger thing for me as a 360 player, is that the Orbis might not be backwards compatible with PS3 games.
What happens to the tons of DLC, Arcade/PSN games, and games that require patches/downloads? The bigger insult would be if the same games were released again on the Orbis.Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
The no used games deal was eminent as these consoles start heading towards using a similar software infrastructure like PC gaming. It does suck because my kids and I share games back and forth, so unless they offer some kind of Steam like feature where you can buy extra keys for family and friends, were kind of screwed here. The "no used games" bit was coming from both consoles, as you read a never ending stream of "Gamestop/Used Games are killing the industry!" article on various sites. I think Sony is shooting themselves in the foot by leaving Cell which programmers now have had 6 years to work with and going back to an x86 infrastructure. The crazy thing is that the Vita was built off the Cell so developers can easily port over PS3 titles to Vita. Just very backwards not looking at your overall strategy. What this means is that we could have huge compatibility issues with PSN bought items. If PSP to Vita transition is any indication, good luck.
Then add overpriced accessories from MSFT with HDD's costing $130 where you can get a 2TB HDD at that price or Sony and their $100 pricing for a 32GB memory card. It just never ends.
I've been slowly getting back into PC gaming of late and just not as excited what I keep hearing about the next gen set of consoles. When you can buy games like NBA2K12 for $19 PC vs. $49 Console, there is something goofy there. I will always keep a console around since there are games that can't be played on the PC like football and certain exclusives, but will really think about which console I go with next gen based on features and how they handle their eco-system from the current generation.Comment

Barring something earth shattering, I'll use the money I would have spent on a new console to upgrade my PC. The Steam sales can get you some incredible deals.

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
I am letting my Xbox live year membership run out (Feb 2013) and I am going back strictly to PC. But you can hook PC's directly up to your TV and play it with a wireless xbox 360 controller and is basically a highend console.
Reason I am doing this is for several reasons.
1) Free Online
2) Cheaper games (Steam sales are unreal)
3) Better graphics in higher resolutions
4) Built in true web browser
All you need is wireless mouse & keyboard and the wireless 360 controller adapter for 10 bucks and you have a console.
There is only one single down side of this. Not very many sports titles are released on PC. But plus side is you get the excellent RTS and MMOs!!!
Some examples of why

Not trying to steer anyone in the same direction. Just showing why I am going to head this route.Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
very compelling phobia. i shy away from pc gaming cuz it seems hard and tedious to have to keep up with the specs and all. and back in the day u always had an obsolete cpu in like a years time it seems. i felt it was just easier to buy a console plug it up and be playing with no hassle. now you got me wondering. i dont want the best gaming cpu....just an above avg (80/100 grade) one that can max out most popular games. u got me where u said even on mid level...the detail is still better than console....hmmmm?!? i may have to take the plunge when the next gen comes out and just pick the best console and then instead of buying the other, just build a cpu instead.Lets Go:

Yep. It is extremely simple, and in the long run, if you catch some great Steam sales, it's much cheaper game wise.
Granted, the downfall is, for sports you miss out on some sports games, but hopefully EA will start re-releasing Madden and Live for the PC. Wireless keyboard and mouse sit in my recliner pocket, and the 360 controller on the armrest. Turn on the PC, TV, and game. Very simple.
And he's right, even medium settings are just above where the consoles are. Skyrim is night and day playing it at 1080P w/ the hi-res texture mods.Twitter - WTF_OS

Will, hopefully we get more sports titles from EA on PC, that would be great.....if not, then that is why its good to have a console around for those sports titles and exclusives/obscure titles that aren't on PC.Yep. Steam alone has really opened up my eyes on how much can be saved in the long run. Then add Origin, Amazon, and GOG that have crazy sales of their own.
Last night I just ordered a 25ft HDMI and optical cables to go from my office in the next room to the 50" plasma in the family room. I tested my current PC setup on the plasma already and the PC looks good, I can only imagine how it is running things on High or Ultra at higher resolutions.
I'm going out today to get the Nvidia 560, was going to get the TI, but from what I've read and for my use the regular 560 is a few notches below the TI. Too bad the 500 series Nvidia's don't have audio also bitstreaming like the Radeon cards. Hoping next month to get the new CPU/Mobo/RAM and really be rocking.Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
If you can grab the EVGA 560 you'll be grabbing a very nice card. It actually when overclocked a tad performed on par with my 560ti at stock clocks. Very capable card. It won't max out the Witcher, etc, but down the road if your motherboard supports SLI then you can grab one dirt cheap and run in an SLI config.
You'll definitely be fine with it. And holy cow, a 25' HDMI cable? lol. That's awesome. I can only imagine how much Monster would charge for a 25' HDMI cable

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
I'll put it this way. First most people are intimidated of PC's because in the past the tech was not as user friendly as it is today. But now this is not the case, most parts are simply plug and go. So the stigma PC's have received is ill regarded in most respects.very compelling phobia. i shy away from pc gaming cuz it seems hard and tedious to have to keep up with the specs and all. and back in the day u always had an obsolete cpu in like a years time it seems. i felt it was just easier to buy a console plug it up and be playing with no hassle. now you got me wondering. i dont want the best gaming cpu....just an above avg (80/100 grade) one that can max out most popular games. u got me where u said even on mid level...the detail is still better than console....hmmmm?!? i may have to take the plunge when the next gen comes out and just pick the best console and then instead of buying the other, just build a cpu instead.
Steam for instance has made PC gaming with buddies just as easy as consoles. Simply click their name and click Join game and you can drop into a friends game. Simply click their name and dial up for a mic to mic "private chat", or just text them instantly with instant messenger twice as fast with a keyboard.
The money you will save on steam with games is unreal! For instance right now they have a special going on for all 8 King Arthur games for $12.95. Granted while this is not a AAA title it is just a example. They do have excellent specials on AAA titles. I bought Mafia 2 for like 4 bucks not long after it came out. It was still selling for 40+ for consoles.
Now for the cost of building and maintaining a PC. Most think "You have to constantly upgrade a PC over and over and spend all this money to keep it". Honestly, this is completely false. I built a PC I am currently using 3 years ago for 600 dollars and I still play everything currently out on high or very high. It can last for EASILY another 3+ years and just slightly knock down the graphics which will STILL be better than current consoles!!
So for instance if you built a PC specially in mind for gaming. A entire build will cost around $500 for a upper mid tier. It will play anything currently out on High settings and at higher resolutions than current consoles. That build will last you for 3 years easy and could last for 5 or 6. Then when it does come time to upgrade it is normally just video card and maybe ram as simple add ons. You normally don't have to do complete rebuild unless you want to stay highest of the high.
Cost wise PC's are cheaper in the long run for sure. Say for instance you save 20 to 30 per game. Then you save 60 a year on xbox live. In a 3 year stint between the two you would save $180 on xbox live and if you bought 20 games in 3 years close to $400 on games. A new video card add on MIGHT cost you $150 to $200. So you could of hypothetically saved close to $400 dollars. Granted I buy way more than 20 games in 3 year span so my savings are much greater. Then my builds I also make last longer than 3 years. So I am coming out ahead.
Basically it is a console and does everything a console does but better. It is just like anything else in life, you take a little time to learn it and you will be more comfortable with it.
Murda here is a example of my current rig which I built in November 2008. So it is basically 3-1/2 years old and is FAR FAR some powerful beast. But I can still run almost everything on high+.

Edit: I don't understand why it keeps saying page not found. If you search "Gaming/PC Setups" started by Momentusceltic post #6 is my current build.Last edited by Phobia; 03-29-2012, 02:06 PM.Comment
