How do I unlock Ichiro?

I know I have to feed mariner players to my dd guy but do I have to beat the mariners stronghold in conquest first or what? How do I unlock the challenge? They made this game so confusing this year.

Conquer the Mariners in Conquest mode.

Play X amount of innings with Mariners players.

Feed X amount of Mariners cards to your CAP.

Must be done in that order.
