Need some help with strategy

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I need some help with defensive strategy.

My game tonight in my OD is against a player who just runs all the time. I believe he puts a RB at fullback so he has two very fast people in the backfield. Last time I played him, he passed 1 or 2 times all game and whipped me 42-17 or something. I couldn't stop him at all. He runs the same play (I think) almost every down.

He looks at your defense, flips or doesn't flip the play, then sends his strong-side receiver in motion to get him to help with blocking. He ran over the middle a few times for about 6 yds on average per play but he would also cut it outside and get AT LEAST 6-10 yds average per play. Often, he would cut it outside and there would be only my CB to beat (which he would) and it's TD.

He did this all game.

Any ideas on how to stop him? 4-6? 3-4? 4-2-5?

Nobody has really been able to beat him. (Except for the guy that puts a CB/WR at QB and runs him out of the pistol all game.)

Thanks for any help.

Re: Need some help with strategy

Any defense can work for this..I would just blitz a lot and before the play press Y and left on the left thumbstick (I think). This brings some of your safeties up which allow them to play the run more but is vulnerable to the pass. You can also run commit by pressing down on the right thumbstick right after the snap and right before the ball is handed off. But be careful..if he starts to catch on he will get you with some play action down the field. I find the best position is to play the MLB (4-3).

Now thats just my method that has worked for me, but I am cautious when doing it..I dont want a TD on a pass just because everybody was playing up.

Shift your D-line and LB's around and slant. Use his motioning WR against him and jump the snap if you know he's snapping it when he is in position to make a block that seals the edge. I personally would control my FS or SS and shut down anything from bouncing to the outside. Make him turn back into your help.

Also, the best way to beat any running team is to score points offensively. It's a hard offense to run when playing from behind.

And finally, maybe take a little pride and yell at the TV and your defense to get them fired up. Helps me. Ha

Re: Need some help with strategy

i like to run a 3-3-5 against anything, control your FS since you know he isnt gonna pass, and blitz your SSs. make sure your SS are decent speed, its all about speed, and try the different 3-3-5 alignments, against the run, i like the one with the safeties down on the line,

The run really isnt hard to contain on this game if you know its coming, he must have a hell of a run attack to be killing you like that lol.

If you sure he is not passing @ all...then just run some man to man D on the WR and blitz a OLB and a MLB..(or stunt you two DT)(also on the blitzes you may wanna try to blitz em to the wide side of the field) also what may help is right after the snap (like usually @ seconds) if you move the right joystick towards your body..it run alerts the defense thus bringing DB's Safetys and such up to defend it...just a thougt tho hope all goes well...

the easiest way... for me at least... against the run, if he runs to the outside, is to blitz the corners... i try to blitz my corners and my MLB... and you be a safty that is gonna lite him up a few times... then he might fumble or his guy will get tired faster

Re: Need some help with strategy

Yeah, I think it's because the runs aren't designed to go outside - he cuts it up very quickly and then jukes out - my whole D bites inward and he has a mostly open field.

It's not that he has an explosive offense really, it's just that he gets 4-6 yds per snap on average. I'll hit his RB in the backfield and he'll drag me 3 yds then fall forward.

So, he just kept running because, frankly, he never had to stop. I think I had him 3 & >7 once all game. He ran, gained 5 yds - had 4 & 2 on his own 28 (or so) - ran, gained 6 yds for a first down.

I'll try to blitz and stunt - I didn't try the Right Stick move (always forget about this one) but I will.

I always ran/run a 3-4 so I'll try to move to a 4-3 and mix in a lot of 46 or 4-4. I'm afraid my LBs won't be fast enough, however.
