Coaches Prestige

Undoubtedly, there will be much debate over what coach's prestige should be this year, just as with the players. However, this year it appears to be editable. I have visited the roster editing sub-forum to look at the coaches thread and it appears to be full of homerism in my humble opinion. So I just wanted to get the wide opinion of this forum as to how you will rate some of the bigger named coaches in the nation. Seeing that there are 120 schools and assuming there are 5 letter ratings (A,B,C,D,F) that leaves us at about 25 coaches per letter if you wished to distribute them evenly. Who do you see as the 10-15 most deserving head coaches for this designation?

Mine would look something like:

1.) Nick Saban- Alabama
2.) Chris Peterson- Boise State
3.) Bob Stoops- Oklahoma
4.) Chip Kelly- Oregon
5.) Les Miles- LSU
6.) Frank Beamer- Virginia Tech
7.) Mack Brown- Texas
8.) Gary Patterson- TCU
9.) Steve Spurrier- South Carolina
10.) Bret Beilema- Wisconsin
11.) Mark Richt- Georgia
12.) Kirk Ferintz- Iowa
13.) Bobby Petrino- Arkansas
14.) Brian Kelly- Notre Dame
15.) Mike Gundy- Oklahoma State

i made a rating system based on a variety of stats for each head coach.

a few things have changed since i last updated it (mainly steward and tressel gone). but i'll update those soon.

Re: Coaches Prestige

I don't think Saban is the best coach in the NCAA.

Re: Coaches Prestige

Joe Paterno? Dennis Erickson? I would put them in ahead of the bottom two.

Ok...who do you think is better? Not saying your wrong, because this isn't a right or wrong question, I was just wondering who you thought was and where Saban would fall.

I was looking at Prestige as a "how good are they now" rating. I understand how you are using it though as a judgement more of their entire careers. With that being said, I just don't see Paterno currently being the best coach in America, or even close to it. His assistants are highly rated, because they do all of the work.

It's coach "prestige" though, not "talent". When recruits get a visit from Joe Paterno in real life, they know they're getting a visit from one of the most "prestigious" coaches in the history of college football, whether or not you'd call him the "best" at this point in time.
