Its funny that the WAC is done, when arguably, they were the first to try and create a super conference. Eventually the elder WAC broke away and formed the MWC, which has now swallowed the "new" WAC teams.

Your Bobcats are moving to The Sun Belt conference in 2013 along with Georgia State, kind of a shame because you won't have a in-state conference rival (UNT is moving to C-USA). I find the whole thing very interesting.

As far as dissolving a conference, it would be amazing, hell I'd love to just rename a conference. But, the scheduling program the game uses can hardly handle custom conferences as is. I hope they sure worked on that before expanding the customizable components of the feature.

Re: The WAC is done

I believe the WAC will cease to exist as an FBS conference -- I think we're all in agreeance there -- but it can certainly survive as a Division I, non-football conference.

I know that leaves Idaho and New Mexico State in the wind football-wise, but Seattle, Denver, Texas-Arlington (who are all set to join next year) along with possible additions of independents such as CSU Bakersfield, Utah Valley, Southern Utah, U. of South Dakota and even Houston Baptist (Because we all know that the Great West conference is as viable as spoiled milk) could all allow the WAC to survive as a Division I basketball (and all other sports) conference.

Points are well-made that actually being able to *dissolve* a conference will most likely not happen.

I'm not concerned so much with the scheduling logic freaking out about a conference being gone (because my theory is as long as the number of teams across the nation is the same it might not freak out as bad -- just my theory), but I do agree that it kind of kills the marketing relationship.

I've thought of the "renaming a conference" idea before, too. But your problem is the logo. Unless they let you upload a custom .jpeg for a conference logo...

Just sayin'

I believe, in my opinon that Texas started this whole conference stuff. I mean think about it, Texas A&M got pissed cause Texas got the Longhorn Network and them Aggies believed it was a recruiting advantage because they were showing high school football games on it. Well, A&M wanted a Big 12 network or have them take down Longhorn Network, they said no, so A&M split, and bam, domnio effect. Oh, lets have the founding fathers of the Big East, Pitt and 'Cuse leave. Oh, A&M and Colorado are leaving? Yea, Mizzou should go to. Now Nebraska on the other hand had the right to leave. Nebraska, Penn State and Michigan State are all Land Grant schools. So it makes sence for Nebraska to leave, but Mizzou, Colorado, Pitt, Cuse? Come on now, its all about money and greed. What's funny is, now all those schools are gonna be crap for a lot of years getting beat up in even better conference than where they came from.

I feel bad for both of them also but at the same time I am dissapointed that the Mountain West didnt bring along New Mexico St. New Mexico St traditionally in the WAC have had a great competative basketball program but a football program that leaves a lot to be desired. They would have been a much better fit then San Jose St because A)They are competative and B)They are competative. Also they have natural rivals with New Mexico and UTEP(if they indeed slide over to the MWC). Idaho...well umm they suck in everything sorry Vandal fans. Big Sky is a much better fit for you.
Annoys me to keep reading about the "Bay Area market" being the reason for San Jose St to be brought into the Mountain West. In all seriousness I lived in San Jose and no one there gives a crap about the Spartans and no one goes to their games I mean why watch that train wreck of a program when you can drive 15-20 minutes up the freeway and watch Stanford? Plus their basketball team plays in a freaking high school gym pretty much...isn't this 2012? Just my .2

UT-Arlington accepted a bid the Sun Belt and Houston Baptist accepted an invitation to the Southland a few months ago and is adding football in a couple years.

Missouri started it all with rumors of them wanting to join the Big Ten. Then, several months later rumors of the Big Ten wanting to add a 12th team were true, but they wanted Nebraska, not Mizzou.

Nebraska Made more sense in more than just football Big Ten Wrestling Benefited from taking Nebraska instead of Missouri. Nebraska was the better universal option for the big ten not just football.
