Simming the other side of the ball

Hi everyone,

In my test dynasty, I've tried something new this season: I've been simming the defense (while still watching all the plays). The reason is for realism. If my character is an offensive coach, he wouldn't be calling the defense. The result has been very stout defense, and I'm not sure if that's the nature of simming it, watching it, or just my DC.

Has anyone else tried this and if so how was your experience?

Your defense is super overpowered whenever you sim it. It doesn't matter if you watch the plays or not. Your 60overall defense can shut down a 90overall offense 9/10 times

Thank you for clarifying this - I was not aware. I appreciate it!

Re: Simming the other side of the ball

I second what WHughes said. The defense plays 10x better when its simmed.

Isn't there a "random play" option? I know you can in practice mode but never bothered to check in game lol. If its there you can pick that. Pick your formation IE nickel and then pick "random play" to take the decision making away from you.

Re: Simming the other side of the ball

I think that's only available in practice mode SB.

Op, if you really don't want to play defense your best option is to either pick a play or use "ask coach" and then select a defensive lineman to "play" as but don't touch the controller. The guy you're controlling will still attempt to fight through blocks, make tackles, etc just like he would if the CPU was controlling him

Re: Simming the other side of the ball

I had a dynasty going where I super-simmed all defense and special teams and my rush defense was #1 in the nation every single year. I played it for 6 seasons.

Re: Simming the other side of the ball

When you super sim , the run is completely shut down no matter who the team is (especially when your an OC) but when you watch the plays its a bit more balanced but too often your defense comes up with sacks and TFLs

I'm currently playing with a 59 ovr TeamBuilder and I've gone two straight games with a single player recording three sacks, both rated in the mid 60s going against USF and LTU (average of mid 70s)

What I've been doing lately is simming third downs because the one game I didn't do this we held Texas A&M to 2/15 on third down conversions. Now whenever I sim the play its usually either converted, a long gain, or sometimes a touchdown.

Play calling the defense on this game is just too frustrating, I'm okay with watching us give up long gains but when I'm the one responsible for it I get pretty heated lol
