How do you change the direction of a run without calling a "flip audible"?

I read somewhere that it's possible to change the direction of a run (Playmaker pre-snap control in Madden), without calling an audible and flipping the play.

If this can be done, how?

I am playing 2004, but I got the impression it has been in the series for awhile?

Supposedly, hit triangle and then the d-pad in the new direction. Doesn't work most of the time though.

Interesting.. I remember reading something similiar now that you mention it.. I also remember trying it in game, and it never working.

It's frustrating to call an audible just to flip the play, because the defense also audibles with me, every single time.

It doesn't work for 2004 because they just imcorporated into 2005's game.

Uhh you are right that it's triangle and left or right on the d-pad. And i've used it hundreds of times in 2005 and it's never failed to work once. You must not be pressing the button firmly left or right is all I can guess..

I use it all the time to, it doesn't work though if the play can not go to the other side. For example on the halfback direct snap, it can not go to the otherside of the field.
