Covering up the ball (PS2)

Does anyone know if there is a difference in covering up the ball using the triangle button or up on the R3 stick? Seems like a waste of a button if they both did the exact same thing.

I'm using the default controls, which are also the controls listed in the instruction manual.

It says L2 stiff arms and Triangle covers the ball.

You're more likely to break tackles pushing up on the R stick, because it is that is the Truck Stick. Pushing Triangle just gives you less of a chance of fumbling. I don't think Triangle makes it more likely that you break a tackle or not.

R is the truck stick. Triangle covers the ball on default for PS2. I definitely use triangle when the defense has an angle or I'm bunched up. It makes a differece for fumbles. I also think since you lean forward a bit when you cover up you tend to fall forwards when tackled because of the way the animations are strung together.
