My favorites would be:

1. Lance Hafner Pure College Football for the C64
2. NCAA 2004 for the PS2
3. NCAA 2007 for the PS2
4. Tecmo Super Bowl
5. Electric Football-Dallas Cowboys vs. Denver Broncos

This makes me think. I've bought just about every football game going back 25+ years. You would think they'd have made a better football game by now, I've funded computer football technology equalling the GNP of some small island nations .

Re: NCAA 2004: I know it's been said before...

Although I played more games of 2004 then any other console football game ever, I will have to give the nod to the 2007 xbox version myself.

With the exception of jump the snap and the field goal kicking I really didn't have any major issues with 2007 that the sliders couldn't reasonably address. This is or course leaving aside the standard problems that arise from the Tiburon gameplay engine. Which is the case every year of course.

2004 had too many flaws on the defensive side of the ball for the CPU, allowing for a gang of money plays for the user. This was just by running standard plays. The ridiculous number of cover zero calls by the CPU just destroyed any chance of them getting any stops.

I will agree that 2004 was hella fun, I think that our increased expectations in the subsequent years have made us all less tolerant of the flaws and have dampened our enjoyment and enthusiasm.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I agree with this, but on the other hand, EA has had this series for over a decade. So expectations should be higher than they would be for a company in the first year of a series.

Considering where the game was in 2003 & 2004, I have been fairly disappointed in the advancements since then...and in some cases, things got worse (CPU FG% for example).

I've once again gone back to playing 2004, just started up a new dynasty. After being frustrated with 07 still, and waiting for 08, 2004 is perfect. I've also made the decision to rent 08 first this year, so I could be playing 2004 until I go next gen later this year.

Bill Abner's sliders for 2004 = Pure gaming bliss.

2003 will always be my favorite version. Just the feel of the game - it was college football. Running around with Lane Danielson and Seneca Wallace... brings back memories.

Loved 04. I remember during the run-up to 05, a poster here played an early build somehow, then came back to report that it sucked compared to 04. He said the defense in 05 swarmed like a school of fish, taking away any opportunities for YAC, and he had a host of other compaints.

The part I remember most, though, is that he said, "04 will go down as the better game." Of course, everyone in this forum was so crunk about 05 that they ripped him inside out, but truer words were never spoken.

I wish I could find that prophetic post, but I don't think the log goes back that far.
