I can tell you from much personal experience in The Big House that a defense chant is not done on every down. Heck, its not done even remotely often. The last time I remember a clear Defense chant during a Michigan game was back in 2005 during the opening drive of one of the early games of the season after the defense had been heavily negatively criticized for the way they played the week before.

In all college football games i've been to (Michigan or otherwise), i've only heard a Defense chant when the defense is in a key/critical situation such as a 3rd and Short, deep in the red zone, or when the offense desperately needs the ball back.

Hearing it every down is simply unrealistic and would get annoying to me after a while. Raw noise every play is very much the norm and thats the way it should be. I'd assume you could always get a sample of a Defense chant and use the stadium sounds feature to play it on every down if you want, but I think EA did the crowd very well as it is. I do like the new crowd dynamics EA added in. The "ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh" and "awwwwwwwwwwwwww"'s of the crowd really help bring the crowd to life and enhance the atmosphere. That combined with the ability to import authentic chants to play at the accurate moments creates the potential to customize the most authentic, thus, immersive crowd ever in a college football game. Thanks for that EA!

Yeah, it's hardly ever done in the Horseshoe either that I recall. It's usually just the Hells Bells playing real loud and the crowd screaming as loud as they can for big defensive situations, not D-FENSE! Maybe that's more of an NFL thing.

Re: "Defense" chant on every down....

Yeah, if anything they should just replace the defense chant with, ya know, a this-is-a-big-play cheer - and one that actually gets louder if the home team wins that play, I should add: in 08 the crowd actually had a tendency to get quieter in this situation.

That said, I really like what I heard from the demo in terms of the crowd. It was hard to do because of how loud the annoucers are, but when I turned the voluem up really loud the crowd was VERY impressive.

There are audio sliders in 09, right?
