Overall I have really enjoyed the NCAA Football 09 experience. Though it still has a long way to go to catch up with the ps2 last gen versions such as 06 and my fave 07, we are definitely going in the right direction. Generally I am satisfied with the play experience.
All of this being said, there are still some major, major flaws which hold this game back. Presentation (pre, half and post game as well as bowl game atmosphere), editable playbooks, and uniform issues are my top three. However, an issue that needs to be addressed in the same breath as the others is the playcall screen. My basic premise here is that THE NEXT GEN PLAYCALL SCREEN IS TERRIBLE, ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.
An all new playcall screen is needed for 2010, no exceptions! I WOULD SUGGEST MODIFYING THE MADDEN 09 PLAYCALL SCREEN AND PUTTING IT IN NCAA FOOTBALL 2010. These are the major benefits of the Madden playcall screen:
1. Playbook substitutions (#1 pet peeve... bring it back!!!)
2. Highlights
3. Play challenge screen
4. Quick statistics (I'm a stats junky)
What I would like to see added to the playcall screen is a hot and cold icon where the cpu would show you who is struggling and then you could go in, if you wish and substitute accordingly.
Currently the NCAA 09 playcall screen is terrible. As a gamer I need to have full control over the game experience. Playbook substitutions as it is done in Madden 09 will allow me to better play to my style. On last gen ps2 each year I would develop three RB's and 2FB's. Using the Madden playcall screen, this would be easy. Currently it takes way too much time to do this and usually I end up overworking my starting RB and FB. This takes a lot of strategy and fun out of the gaming experience.
I will also fully admit I am a stats and highlights junky. I love being able to access this information. In NCAA it is awkward and time consuming but the Madden version is great.
OMT, personally would you have any interest in seeing the Madden playcall screen make the transition to NCAA Football 2010? What about the rest of the community? I look forward to reading your feedback. Thanks.
