Re: Best way to defend 5 wide?

there is little that can be done against that. If someone goes into a 5WR set with a fast QB and sprints backward/toward the sideline until coverage breaks down is almost impossible to stop. try spying a FS out of a 4-2-5 scheme. and throw in CB blitzes from the side of the field with the most room (if that is the way they usually run).

almost try the play (velcro 9) in think its called. out of the nickel formation. it gives you 4 deep, and your DEs are back in zone coverage too. if they are fast, audible one of them to a deep route to really throw them off. sometimes you just have to fight fire with fire. or cheese with cheese.

Unlike real football, very few people can make their progression reads and will freak out when their "go-to" route is covered. If you sit back and say run a straight cover 3 for an extended period of time, a smart player will be able to see where the hole in the defense will be.
I completely agree.

Re: Best way to defend 5 wide?

CVR 2 against a 5 wide set is so very very dangerous. safties can be split on a deep middle slant which will go for 6 everytime. I run some form of cvr 3 -90% of time vs 5 wide and mix in a cvr two when I feel like I know who the opponent will goto on a money play. also gotta blitz at least one playerand rush from other side manual
