ive never had this problem. I always adjust my depth chart so that i have the right people in at 2nd and 3rd string. I've never had TE at OL or WR at CBc when using backups.
As for progression, I think it helps a little. Ive had a starter go down for the year and instead of a 74 rated junior backup, ill play the 70 rated freshman 3rd stringer. Then in future years he progresses faster than the 74 rated Junior
