Recruiting and Progression has screwed smaller schools

So 10 years simulated into dynasty and lesser schools, 3 star and lower are just horrible. Its ok that the teams have majority low rated players and everything as they are not very good programs but they have no star power.

More specifically, they have absolutely no star talent, not even guys rated 85 ovr. Every year hundreds of players are selected in the NFL draft from these schools so you'd think they could have a few good players on their teams. But not in ncaa football. The semi ok schools, led by the computer recruiting, can only get 3 star players at best. These guys come in at 57-75 ovr. Add that to prestige being linked to progression and these teams never have a guy rated much higher than 80 by the player's senior year. My real concern is how this will reflect if you import draft classes to madden. Will only bcs and bcs bucter schools be represented in the draft? Does the difficulty in recruiting affect this?

Re: Recruiting and Progression has screwed smaller schools

But are these guys selected in the first round? How many times have you seen a Louisiana Monroe player drafted early? What about other schools? Sure, there are exceptions, but this game isn't about pro progressions.

You can be a star at a smaller school without being an 85 overall. Hell, at UNLV, I have a 65 overall quarterback setting the world on fire. It's because the talent isn't as great. The way this year's game is set up you shouldn't worry about the rating so much.

They fixed the issue of making every player a star, and they added the ability to give teams character and you can be a football mastermind like never before.

Enjoy it.

Re: Recruiting and Progression has screwed smaller schools

There aren't exactly hundreds every year. In schools playing on the BCS level outside of the major BCS conferences and the top teams other than that, this would be WAC, Sun Belt, MWC, MAC, and CUSA teams other than probably TCU, Utah, BYU, and Boise state plus Army and Navy. Those are the 4 schools with 4 stars of prestige or more in the 5 non major BCS conferences. Also you could look at teams like Baylor, Iowa ST, Duke, Indiana, WSU, and Vandy who while being in in major conferences are given 2 or less stars.

Here is a breakdown of the players drafted by round from these conferences and from the other small schools.

Round Non Major Top schools Non top Other weak
in non major Schools Schools

1 4 2 2

2 5 3 2 1

3 3 3 2

4 2 1 1

5 6 4 2

6 5 5 1

7 5 5 4

Total 30 10 20 8

That is 20 total from the non major conferences not counting 4* teams and half of those were in the last 2 rounds. It is only 30 total including 4* schools and more than half still fell in the last 3 rounds. Not exactly hundreds. Even adding in the other weaker schools only adds 8 and half of them are 7th rounders. If a team gets one of the better 3* players around mid 70s and even gets 3 points on average of progression that player can become a mid 80s player. in this years game that is enough for the player to be drafted as there are at any point usually only about 80 players above a 90 overall. This could make these mid 80s players easily in the top couple hundred making them draftable just on overall alone.

One more thing to consider here is in a madden draft there are only 224 picks where as this year in the NFL draft there were 255. Reducing the 20 picks by that amount really means it should be between 17 and 18 that get drafted to match real life.

To be fair, Flacco was a big time Pitt recruit, but transferred.

And Southern Miss was a top 25 caliber football program when Favre went there (A bunch of 9 win seasons and only one losing season in the 80's).

But I get what you are saying. Demarcus Ware comes to mind for me.

Re: Recruiting and Progression has screwed smaller schools

Something I noticed is that some of the smaller schools only go after 1* and 2* recruits, like after one recruiting session San Jose St. had over 20 1* recruits signed, and maybe a couple 2*s. So the problem in my mind is that they are getting the worst players, and the guys barely even progress because of the school's prestige.

Also don't forget about Dominique Rodgers Cromartie coming out of an FCS school, he is now a premiere corner in the NFL.

Re: Recruiting and Progression has screwed smaller schools

I hope this isn't the case as I'm working a dynasty with Western Kentucky. My starting QB has sick speed and acceleration I'm hoping if I post some big numbers with him and my RB's my offense will get better.

Defense sucking is another story, they should digress IMO.
