Re: Speed is still everything

After last seasons Madden I did some research, because people wanted to question the dominance of the slot.

If you look at the 2009 NFL statistics, these were the slot receivers stats...

Houston - David Anderson 38 catches, 370 yards, 0 TDS
New Orleans - Robert Meachem 45 catches, 722 yards, 9 TDS
New England - Julian Edelman 37 catches, 359 yards, 1 TD
Carolina - Dwayne Jarrett 17 catches, 196 yards, 1 TD
Baltimore - Kelly Washington 34 catches, 431 yards, 2 TDS
Oakland - Johnnie Lee Higgins 19 catches, 263 yards, 0 TDS
Dallas - Patrick Crayton 37 catches, 622 yards, 5 TDS
Buffalo - Josh Reed 27 catches, 291 yards, 1 TD
Washington - Malcolm Kelly 25 catches, 347 yards, 0 TDS
Jacksonville - Mike Thomas 48 catches, 453 yards, 1 TD
Philadelphia - Jason Avant 41 catches, 587 yards, 3 TDS
Kansas City - Bobby Wade 36 catches, 367 yards, 2 TDS

Im tired off going through NFL stats, but I think you get the picture. Your avg slot receivers, whether in college or the NFL is not going to burn a team religiously for 10 catches, 146 yards, and 2 TDs. For you to run the same few money plays because you know the slot receivers are more than likely to be open, then its your fault, and to me, thats cheese.

Especially because for most of the people complaining about this, there stat line for receivers in one season probably reads a lot like this...

WR1 - 25 catches, 450 yards, 3 TDS
WR2 - 11 catches, 210 yards, 1 TD
WR3 - 57 catches, 1110 yards, 15 TDS
WR4 - 22 catches, 360 yards, 2 TDS
TE1 - 18 catches, 225 yards, 4 TDS
TE2 - 8 catches, 120 yards, 1 TD
RB1 - 41 catches, 610 yards, 6 TDS
RB2 - 22 catches, 310 yards, 4 TDS
FB1 - 11 catches, 190 yards, 3 TDS

You abuse things because its called taking the easy way out. Instead of looking at your slot receiver as the 3rd or 4th read in a progression (realistic), you eye him before the play even starts knowing there is a 95% shot he is going to be open. And then if under pressure, instead of throwing the ball away, you force the ball to the slot guy because if you lead him enough he usually gonna catch it.

You can do whatever you want, but don't complain about how easy it is when you the one running the plays knowing how easy they are.

Its like the people in Madden last year, who would run exclusively wildcat with Tenn and complain about how easy it was to run because Chris Johnson could unrealistically run around the entire defense, and then break tackles like a maniac.
